FORGETTING YOUR FIRST LOVE

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

If you lack knowledge, My word instructs you to ask. Need faith? Make your request known and I will fulfill it. Lacking in love for others or for Me? I Am the supplier of love. I give liberally to all who ask because I Am Love and I Am limitless.

FORGETTING YOUR FIRST LOVE?

In the book of Revelation, God is disappointed with the church of Ephesus. He tells them,

Nevertheless, I have this against you, that you have left your first love. – Revelation 2:4

What does He mean? What is their first love? It’s this: They have left the principle of how everything works in the spiritual realm. That is so very true of many churches across the world today.

Hey, just because it was written to the church in Ephesus does not mean it doesn’t apply to us today. To help you see where I’m really trying to go with this, let me pull from another book by John.

“We love Him because He first loved us.” – 1 John 4:19

God acted first – He initiated – by loving us. Our response is to love Him back.

Can I say this? You have no capacity to love God whatsoever. Only God can love God. God is holy, just, righteous, sanctified, set apart, justified. Only God has the ability to fully understand and love Himself.

You and I are marred, smeared, corrupted by sin. We’re human beings. How do we have the ability to love God? We don’t. Therefore, God had to love us first. By loving us, He’s equipped us to love Him back.

When we forget this, when we start loving ourselves, our jobs, family, money and even our comfort more than God. He’s the most awesome person ever and He deserves to be number one in our lives.

Have you forgotten how love works in the spiritual realm – that God provides the love you need to love Him back. Repent! Put things right and run back to your first love today.

WHAT HAS BEWITCHED YOU?

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

A divided mind is a divided heart. You cannot serve two masters because you will love one and hate the other. Serve only Me. My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

WHAT HAS BEWITCHED YOU?

The devil and Jesus are not in competition. What that cosmic punk is truly competing for is your attention. There are evil things competing for your attention and for what you devote your life to, so you need to focus and get in alignment for your assignment.

There’s not a single one of us God hasn’t called to steward money. That means we ought to have sources in our life teaching us how to handle money. We are all called to have next level relationships. We should be reading books, have mentors and be studying what the Word of God says about those kinds of things.

Think about how much of your time and attention toward these things are being stolen by the wicked writers of Hollywood. Do you know what Harry Potter’s wand is made out of? Holly. Holly wood. Wood of holly is a witch’s wand. The church of Galatia knew this all too well.

“You foolish Galatians. Who has bewitched you?” – Galatians 3:1

“But Pastor Troy, you don’t know how entertaining all this stuff is. It’s just fun and I need to just decompress and relax. It doesn’t affect me.”

Can I tell you something? This brother is not against seeing movies. I love movies. I love stories. I’m not against that. But here’s what I’m against: giving all my life and all my devotion to things that are not in alignment with my assignment, and my assignment is to serve people. That’s wisdom.

So, what is competing for your tie and attention? An iffy relationship, your job, an addiction or your favorite sports team? Think about it for a minute.

If you know more about the Dallas Cowboys or Game of Thrones than you do about your purpose or God-given destiny, you need to use some of that God-given self-control to take back your territory. Tell that cosmic punk to get lost and follow Jesus into alignment for your assignment.

WHO’S YOUR DADDY?

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I Am a perfect creator. I created you in your mother’s womb with a purpose to reproduce heaven on earth. My word tells you in Matthew 28 to go and make disciples, so go.

WHO’S YOUR DADDY?

Heaven is reproducing through you. Why? Because God hates bareness. He wants you to be fruitful and multiply. That doesn’t necessarily mean have lots of kids. It means multiply your fruitfulness no matter what part of your life it’s in.

Now, reproduction only happens through intimate relationship. You need to understand that if heaven is not being produced in your life, that ain’t on God. That’s on you. “But Pastor Troy, if God wants me to have a good marriage, I’ll have a good marriage – but since I don’t, it must be the will of God.” Hogwash!

You will eventually hate God for the misery in your life and it has nothing to do with His love toward you. It has to do with your inability to carry that baby all the way through and bear fruit in your marriage.

I once knew a young lady who had two miscarriages. She desperately desired to please her husband and start a family. She began to wonder if her body was able to carry a baby to full term. Needless to say, they kept trying. I see my friend now and she is the proud mother of three!

Some years later, her daughter lost twins and my friend began to wonder if it was inherited. My friend realized that perhaps there was some fruit from her miscarriages. It gave her empathy so her daughter didn’t feel hopeless and alone.

Here’s what’s real: you will fail in life. God has a plan for you whether it makes sense or not. My friend chose not to blame God but trusted she would one day reproduce. She did and her daughter looks just like her daddy. Do you?

Do you resemble your heavenly Father at all?

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. – Genesis 1:27

When life knocks your face in the dirt, look up. There might be a blossom on that branch and fruit is not far behind. Reproduce the goodness of God and you’ll have an awesome harvest.

…TO GOD’S EAR

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

You are My beloved. I whisper deep and meaningful mysteries into your heart. Do you hear them? Let Me be your love. Tell Me what is in your soul so I can make you whole.

…TO GOD’S EAR

God hears your prayers right where you’re at. That, I promise you. However, you go to special places for special prayers to get special outcomes. The One who instructs us to do that is Jesus.

“But you, when you pray, go into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” – Matthew 6:6

Matthew 6:6 is interesting to me. The number six has to do with man or the flesh. Anytime you see the number twice, it’s as a witness to mankind. Maybe that’s why there are 66 books in the Bible – it’s a witness to mankind.

So, this witness to man in Matthew 6:6 is Jesus telling us there are things you talk to Him in private that you don’t pray in the open. As a matter of fact, He says you need to shut the door.

Is it magic to shut or open a door? No. It’s that this is a “secret place” type of prayer and He’s saying you need to learn to match your environment with the prayer you’re praying and even the outcome you’re looking for.

Atmosphere is such a big deal. You have to line up the environment to what is in your heart. That includes the atmosphere, the setting and for more public prayers, even the culture. It’s about being intentional with God in your relationship just as you are intentional with people.

You don’t have intimate or revealing conversations in a crowd. Just like that, you don’t take your spouse away to a candle light dinner to gripe and complain. If you do, the result will not be what you were hoping for.

Consider your prayers. What result do you want? Set the atmosphere and enter in with a heart set on hearing Him speak to you. Let the desires of your heart, your petitions, and declarations go from your lips to God’s ear.

The Power of Baptism

Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021

Pastor Troy Brewer, OpenDoor Church, Burleson, TX

THE POWER OF A PROPHETIC ACT

Prophetic actions are prolific in the Bible. Some Old Testament prophets are renowned for their strange prophetic acts. Isaiah went naked (Is 20), Hosea married a prostitute (Hosea 1:2), Ezekiel lay on one side for 390 days (Ezek 4:5).

Intercession (1 Kings 18:42-44)  in order for it to rain, a guy had to go to place and come back 7 different times.

Healing (2 Kings 5:9-14) Naaman had to go jump in a river 7 different times to be healed of leprosy.

Warfare (Exodus 17:10-13) as long as the arms of Moses were up the Israelite army was winning.

Warning (Ezekiel 4-5) – The Siege of Jerusalem Portrayed

Foretelling (Acts 21:10-12)  AGABUS WARNS PAUL BY PRETENDING HE IS BOUND UP

Calling to ministry (1 Kings 19:19)   ELIJAH THREW HIS CAPE UPON ELISHA

Jesus used symbolic action when He put clay on a blind man’s eyes and told him to wash in the pool of Siloam (John 9:6-7). He also taught His disciples the practice of anointing with oil for healing (Mark 6:13), symbolic of the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

A prophetic act can hold spiritual power for fulfillment or breakthrough when the Holy Spirit directs it. (2 Kings 13: 14-20).

MOVING  BAPTISM  FROM  SALVATION

TO THE POWER OF A PROPHETIC ACT

Mark 1:5-11John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. 5 Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

6 Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.

7 And he preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.

8 I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

9 It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

10 And immediately , coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. 11 Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

When Jesus got baptized, it was not for the remission of sin. The word tells us exactly what His baptism was all about.

When Jesus got baptized, He was moving from the background to the forefront. He was stepping out of obscurity and into the spotlight.

When you get baptized, you are making a public announcement that Jesus Christ has moved from the background to the forefront of your life and you are stepping into your new Destiny in Christ.

You are sanctified (or separated) from your past & consecrated unto your true purpose (God’s will for your life).

You make a public announcement (an illustrated sermon) of going into the promises of God & burying your past.

The word baptize comes from the Greek word BAPTIZMO. That means “to submerge,” or “cover up.” Baptism is a picture of being buried or submerged in Jesus. Baptism is the natural, next step to being slain by Christ (getting saved  I:E not living by your blood but living by his blood)

The Jordan River (the place of Baptism) flows into the “Dead Sea.” So when you get baptized, all of that filthy junk that went in with you flows into the sea of forgetfulness and then you come out of it

When Jesus came up out of the water, “THE HEAVENS WERE OPENED” unto him IMMEDIATELY (Matthew 3:16).  When you get baptized, you have legal right to claim all the mess that has separated you from God is gone and no longer will you be separate from God in any way, shape or form. You can expect new gifts and a fresh anointing from the Lord.

JESUS HEARD THE VOICE OF THE FATHER DECLARE HIS IDENTITY

IDENTITY, PURPOSE AND DESTINY

Calling, Purpose and assignment

Luke 12:50 “But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!”

Baptism is initiated in the ceremony but it does not stop that day. What was started at the Jordan was accomplished at the cross.  You don’t stop being married after your wedding ceremony. New things get set into motion at Baptism.

1 Corinthians 10:1-2 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

If you want to understand what baptism is all about just look at what happened to the children of Israel when they changed from being slaves to being heirs of the promises of God. The blood was applied while they were still in Egypt as slaves. When they left that mess, Pharaoh and all of their past came chasing after them claiming ownership. Israel went down into the water (The Red Sea) and came out into the Promised Land, while all of  the enemies from their past remained in the water. That’s what Baptism is all about.

God loves to wipe out enemies upon your behalf.

God loves to get rid of bondage.

God loves to take you out of terrible place and bring you into better places.

God loves to show up when everybody says you’re finished. They say, “No, no. It’s really just beginning and that’s what baptism is about.”

A DIFFERENT SPIRIT

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I know the plans I have for you, but do you know them? Follow your heart. Serve, minister to the lost and hurting, and spread kindness so those who don’t know Me will see My goodness in you.

A DIFFERENT SPIRIT

As America is bound and determined to be more and more and more Roman, our society becomes more like the floor of the coliseum. The reason I say that is to say this: have a different Spirit than what the world has.

Have a different heart. Be somebody who does not answer evil for evil, but answers evil with the goodness of God.

You don’t answer evil with a bigger evil. That’s not what the Body of Christ does. Can you say amen to that? And here’s what else you don’t do: you don’t answer everybody who wants you to come down from building the wall that God Almighty called you to build.

Feeding the hungry, rescuing girls from sexual slavery and giving orphans a home are the walls I’m called to build. I don’t come down from kingdom projects and get out of alignment from those things to answer my critics. You shouldn’t either.

Nehemiah didn’t when three evil men wanted to top him from rebuilding the wall that protected Jerusalem during the Babylonian captivity, and those brothers tried four times!

But they were scheming to harm me so I sent messenger to them with this reply: “I am  carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I lear it and go down to you? – Nehemiah 6:2b-3

Are you letting the world pull you away from your assignment? Stay on that wall and answer your critics with kindness, love and dig deep for that self control. Be of a different spirit – the Holy Spirit.

EXCEEDING GREATNESS

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

Right now, you are looking in a mirror darkly. Soon, the light of My being will shine for all to see and the mystery that is the Trinity will be revealed. Look to that day with expectancy. Behold, the Bridegroom cometh!

EXCEEDING GREATNESS

In Ephesians 1:19, Paul uses two very strange Greek words that aren’t found anywhere else in the Word – “exceeding greatness.”

…the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power – Ephesians 1:18-19

What he’s doing is reaching for words because Jesus is so indescribable. Paul also knew it is so important that we know what cannot be known.

I want you guys to look at the words, “I pray that you would know…”

How can you know something that can’t be known? Because we’re talking about two different things. You know by experience what you cannot know by understanding.

There are some things God doesn’t want you to figure out, but He still wants you to experience them. He wants you to know what is exceedingly great. This kind of knowing is not the kind of knowing that you know in our minds.

It’s the kind of knowing where the Bible says, “O taste and see that the Lord is good.” Okay, it doesn’t say understand and know that the Lord is good. It says taste

Taste means personal experience. All of your senses have to do with a supernatural understanding. Your eyes have to do with prophetic vision. Your nose has to do with prophetic discernment and tasting has to do with prophetic or supernatural experience.

There are some things you experience in God and people want an answer. You have no answer. All you can say is that God is awesome. That’s okay because it’s for you, not for them. They need to go after their own walk.

Do you know what cannot be known? Go after His greatness through experiencing Him. You’ll never be the same.

SUSTAINING SALVATION

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I’ve been calling to you throughout your life. Do you hear My voice knocking? Open the door to your life. Let Me make My home within you and you will be alone no more.

SUSTAINING SALVATION

Let me talk a bit about salvation. You understand that the way you come into salvation is the same way that your salvation is sustained, right? God initiates and we respond.

The only way you became a Believer, the only way you walked in and embraced the gift of eternal life is because God initiated it in the beginning and then you responded. In fact, Jesus says this really cool thing in the last book of the Bible:

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock…”

He’s initiating something. He’s bringing something to your attention.

“…if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” – Revelation 3:20

So, the same way you get into salvation is the same that salvation is sustained. God initiates and we respond. I guess that makes us first responders! Our purpose in this relationship is to respond to whatever it is He initiates in our lives.

What is God initiating in your marriage or your family? Is He trying to do a new thing in your work or ministry, your health or your financial wealth? Start paying attention and respond.

Remember, we love Him because He first loved us. Respond to His direction, His prompting and His Word. That’s how you sustain your salvation and finish the race.
