SHINE THE SPOTLIGHT

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

When you exalt Me in the assembly, I can draw all men to Me. Put Me at the center of your life. When you humble yourself in My sight and point to Me, I can lift you up.

SHINE THE SPOTLIGHT

When you get baptized you’re making a public announcement that Jesus Christ has moved from obscurity to the forefront. Why? Because that’s what Jesus doing when He went to the Jordan River and looked His cousin John in the eyes.

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. – Matthew 3:13-15

Jesus was stepping out of obscurity into the spotlight. When you get baptized, you’re saying, “Jesus is not on my back burner any longer. Everybody doesn’t know who Jesus is in my life, but they will now. He’s moving from the wings to center stage.”

Baptism is a sign that you’re stepping into a new destiny in Christ. You are sanctified or separated from your past and you’re consecrated to your true purposes in God.

Have you let the world know you’re not the star of the show? Have you stepped out in faith and said, “I’m going to follow Jesus because He’s my everything. When you see what He’s done in me, you’ll see how awesome He is”? Take the plunge and step out of the shadows. Shine the light on Jesus.

ON TARGET?

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I Am a patient God. A day is like a thousand years when it comes to My long-suffering. Do I desire you to move, achieve and go after alignment for your assignment? Yes. Don’t wait too long. Lost sheep cannot be found without you.

ON TARGET?

When you start getting real and taking responsibility for your alignment, it brings acceleration, effectiveness and pinpoint accuracy for the targets God Almighty has designed for you to hit.

Those targets are your assignment and yes, I’m talking about being in alignment for your Kingdom assignment. If you can do that, the Lord says He will call you great.

“Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5:19

Do you know that God wants to call you great? He wants to see you do some great things. The world might not celebrate you, but I promise you He will be faithful to celebrate you.

Greatness is based upon the size of your heart. Kingdom greatness is based on the size of your response to God. Every believer has been given a tailor-made assignment and if you align with God and walk His path, it will lead you to a divine assignment and you’ll enter into eternal greatness.

Ultimate success and greatness come from alignment for assignment. You and I fail to realize that divine success is something we have the capacity to unleash. It’s all about our obedience to our identity and purpose – acting on the things God has put within us.

What about you? Do you want to hear God brag that you are “great in His Kingdom?” Act on that thing He has put in your identity. Get in alignment and find your assignment.

YOU’RE NOT DONE YET

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

You may see yourself as a mess, but I see you as complete. Do not look to your past for definition. Look to Me. I Am your Creator. I know your identity and purpose. Trust Me when I tell you it is good.

YOU’RE NOT DONE YET

No matter what you think, you’re not done yet. It doesn’t matter how many Bible studies you’ve taught, outreaches you’ve served at or Bible verses you’ve memorized, you still have stuff you need to accomplish for the Kingdom.

Getting into alignment isn’t easy. Just when you think you’ve cleared all the junk out of your life and you’re advancing in the Kingdom, something always competes for your attention – and it’s always something good.

But know this – good isn’t always God. There are plenty of good things you can be doing with your time, talent and treasure that have nothing to do with your assignment.

It pleases the Lord so much when He sees you deciding to go after it and leave all the other things out. He needs you to be somebody rightly aligned, somebody positioned under an open window of heaven.

The Bible says it this way:

“He who abides in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” – Psalms 91:1

That’s alignment. Is that a picture of who you are? Abide in that secret place and be in the center of His will.

I Am the Church 3: CLEAN THE HOUSE

I AM THE CHURCH III: Clean the House
Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021
Pastor Troy Brewer, OpenDoor Church, Burleson, Texas

The blessings and the perils of living in a blessed place.
The promises and warnings that come with the territory of great upgrade.

Deuteronomy 6:10-14
“So it shall be, when the Lord your God brings you into the land of which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build, 11 houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant—when you have eaten and are full— 12 then beware, lest you forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 13 You shall fear the Lord your God and serve Him, and shall take oaths in His name. 14 You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are all around you.”

When you 10X and upgrade into a next-level blessing, you find yourself in what you never would have imagined as dangerous territory.

Cities you didn’t build.
Houses you didn’t fill.
Wells you didn’t dig.
Vineyards you dint plant.

Walking and living in a blessed (mature) place…
can quickly turn into a cursed place… if you let the priorities of “other gods” into that place.
Become the culture of your house.

Hold up a phone. This is a place you didn’t build. You didn’t have to figure it out. You didn’t have to put up the infrastructure. And this blessed place was given to you and trusted to you.

THERE ARE OTHER “gods” IN THIS PLACE THAT GOD SAYS YOU SHALL NOT SERVE!

To be in the world and not of the world has always been a challenge and a terrible conflict for the people of God throughout the centuries.

The beautiful house God gave you can become toxic and even sick because you are no longer under the influence of God but you are being swept away by the charms and temptations of the new world you are living in.

Deuteronomy 6:13-14
You shall fear the Lord your God and serve Him, and shall take oaths in His name. 14 You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are all around you

IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE BLESSED, you have to do a serious self-examination of your house.

JESUS COULDN’T STAND HOW THE LAODICEAN CHURCH LIVED. THEY WERE NEITHER HOT NOR COLD. THEY WERE NOT MOVED WITH ANY KIND OF PASSION. THEY WERE THE CHOSEN FROZEN. THEY WERE FULL OF LACK OF EMPATHY AND HAD ABSOLUTELEY NO ZEAL FOR THEIR OWN HOUSE.

THEY COULDN’T BE REAL.

The Laodicean Church
Revelation 3:17 (NKJV)
Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire…

THIS SERMON SERIES IS CALLED “I AM THE CHURCH,” and if you are going to be the church, the temple of God or the bride of Christ, you are going to have examine and clean your own house.

YOU’RE GONNA HAVE TO BE REAL ABOUT WHAT NEEDS TO BE CLEANED UP, THROWN OUT AND DRIVEN OFF.

The leadership, word and testimony of your church looks more like heaven than it looks like hell. A fearless demonstration of freedom, redemption and the goodness of God.
It should be full of the Holy Spirit; not political correctness.

If your church is not consistent in its love for God, preaching of the gospel and standing on the scriptures—if your church isn’t reaching the poor, preaching the gospel, healing the sick, casting out devils—if your church is run by limp-wristed leadership more concerned for how many clicks they get than how much transformation happens through them, and if your church is not answering evil with the goodness of God, then its time to clean house!

Your family and the things involved in your home life:

Your own physical body
The atmosphere of your heart and your mind

Jesus knew how to clean house.

John 2:15-17 (NKJV)
When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. 16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” 17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.” (Psalms 69:9)

John 2:17 (Passion)
That’s when his disciples remembered the Scripture: “I am consumed with a fiery passion to keep your house pure!”

Jesus fashioned a whip and cleaned out His Father’s house.
Be intentional and develop real tools for cleaning your house!

A “Zeal for your house:”

The Principle of the Leprous House and Garment
Leviticus 14:33-57
“This is the law of leprosy.”

A house can have a disease.
How you dress can have a disease.
How you talk and what you watch can have a disease.

Leviticus 14:33 – 57
33 And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying: 34 “When you have come into the land of Canaan, which I give you as a possession, and I put the leprous plague in a house in the land of your possession, 35 and he who owns the house comes and tells the priest, saying, ‘It seems to me that there is some plague in the house,’ 36 then the priest shall command that they empty the house, before the priest goes into it to examine the plague, that all that is in the house may not be made unclean; and afterward the priest shall go in to examine the house. 37 And he shall examine the plague; and indeed if the plague is on the walls of the house with ingrained streaks, greenish or reddish, which appear to be deep in the wall, 38 then the priest shall go out of the house, to the door of the house, and shut up the house seven days. 39 And the priest shall come again on the seventh day and look; and indeed if the plague has spread on the walls of the house, 40 then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which is the plague, and they shall cast them into an unclean place outside the city. 41 And he shall cause the house to be scraped inside, all around, and the dust that they scrape off they shall pour out in an unclean place outside the city. 42 Then they shall take other stones and put them in the place of those stones, and he shall take other mortar and plaster the house.

43 “Now if the plague comes back and breaks out in the house, after he has taken away the stones, after he has scraped the house, and after it is plastered, 44 then the priest shall come and look; and indeed if the plague has spread in the house, it is an active leprosy in the house. It is unclean. 45 And he shall break down the house, its stones, its timber, and all the plaster of the house, and he shall carry them outside the city to an unclean place. 46 Moreover he who goes into the house at all while it is shut up shall be unclean until evening. 47 And he who lies down in the house shall wash his clothes, and he who eats in the house shall wash his clothes.
48 “But if the priest comes in and examines it, and indeed the plague has not spread in the house after the house was plastered, then the priest shall pronounce the house clean, because the plague is healed. 49 And he shall take, to cleanse the house, two birds, cedar wood, scarlet, and hyssop. 50 Then he shall kill one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running water; 51 and he shall take the cedar wood, the hyssop, the scarlet, and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird and in the running water, and sprinkle the house seven times. 52 And he shall cleanse the house with the blood of the bird and the running water and the living bird, with the cedar wood, the hyssop, and the scarlet. 53 Then he shall let the living bird loose outside the city in the open field, and make atonement for the house, and it shall be clean.
54 “This is the law for any leprous sore and scale, 55 for the leprosy of a garment and of a house, 56 for a swelling and a scab and a bright spot, 57 to teach when it is unclean and when it is clean. This is the law of leprosy.”

Now let’s talk about our own homes and the demonic agenda in our own society to sexualize your kids and your grand kids.
Because it’s time to clean house.

Demonic forces are at work right now to ruin the lives of your children and sexually exploit them in ways you can’t even imagine.

In culture, education and health care, American children also are increasingly targeted for sexual messages, images, and themes at younger ages. Sometimes, this is even supported by taxpayer money through government-led initiatives.

Social media is a prime hunting ground for sex traffickers. In March 2019, Instagram was reportedly the leading social media platform for child grooming by sexual predators.

According to the Heritage Foundation:
A recent poll of 2,000 teens found that nearly 75% had received pornographic direct messages from strangers, even if they had a private account. And 77% of victims of sex trafficking in 2019 met their abuser through a website, app, or text.

Our culture is saturated with sexual content that was once considered too risqué for children, and social media has accelerated the spread of pornography to young viewers.

The American Academy of Pediatrics reports that, in the United States, 42% of children between 10 and 17 have viewed pornography online.

The sexualization of children is occurring in brick-and-mortar spaces too. “Drag queen story hours,” in which cross-dressing adult entertainers interact with children in taxpayer-funded local libraries, have appeared across the country.
In education, the United Nations promotes Comprehensive Sexual Education around the world. In America, groups such as Planned Parenthood, Human Rights Campaign, and the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education. Network promote “comprehensive” sexual education, which includes instruction about homosexual practices, transgender theory, and abortion down to the second grade in some places.

Perversion is being peddled to your children!

When parents learn the full scope of the perversion being peddled to their children, it’s shocking. Take it serious but fear not….

….This is why we must have God-fearing and family loving people on our school boards. This is why we must have God- fearing and family-loving teachers and administrators

“Neutrality” has come to mean state-enforced secularism, the specific and intentional exclusion of God from public policy and state-supported events, which means “almost everything that matters at any level of society…” It’s time to stop pretending the state is actually neutral. IT IS NOT!“There is a global campaign to promote sexualized material to grade school children which is heralded by the UN, championed by Planned Parenthood and is now making its way into all schools.”

“normalized pornography.”

Teachers do not know better than parents what your children’s gender are.Experts fear boys will grow into men with unmeetable expectations.Sexuality is not the same as sexualization. Sexuality evolves in children as they develop a healthy curiosity and growing understanding of their bodies. Sexualization occurs when someone’s sense of their own value is based solely on sex appeal or that individual is held to narrow standards of attractiveness,Avoid sexually suggestive clothing fads. Help your daughter embrace her innocence and not rush the fleeting season of girlhood.

 * Allow only those toys that align with your family’s moral standards. If you won’t allow your daughter to wear racy clothing, avoid toys that encourage that.

Guard what enters your child’s mind. Carefully choose the TV shows she watches, and watch with her. Research movies and song lyrics online for language or sexual overtones (Pluggedin.ca). Install Internet filtering software to guard what comes into your home.
Do not let your kids go to bed with an iPad or a smart phone.
Screen time needs to be in public, open places in your house at very specific times.

Help your teen discern acceptable behavior. Lead them in praying for people whose private lives are made public in the media.Nurture your son and daughter’s self-image. Remind her often that she is precious and made in God’s image.

“FASHION A WHIP” & clean your house!

There is nothing shameful about being set free!

WHICH SIDE OF THE CROSS?

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I Am and have always been God. I sent you My Son to save you not only from My wrath, but from yourself. Jesus was and is the ultimate sacrifice. He is enough. Surrender your life to Him and obtain My mercy.

WHICH SIDE OF THE CROSS?

When I look at the curses in the Old Testament, I see that over in the New Testament there are also curses and blessings. However, I recognize there is a stark contrast between one side of the cross and the other side.

What we’re talking about is the difference between justice and mercy.

On the one side of the cross, before Christ, if you do everything right, God will be good to you. If you do anything wrong, God will show His wrath. On the side of the cross after Christ, what God Almighty offers you mercy. This is because Christ bore all of our sins on the cross. He took all God’s wrath upon Himself – ALL!

The Old Covenant was never the answer to man’s problems, only the mirror for us to see our sinful nature. At the right time, God made a New Covenant and it’s a huge upgrade from judgment for what we deserve, to mercy which we don’t deserve.

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. For they did not continue in my covenant, and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. – Hebrews 8:8-10

Before Jesus, sacrifice was required for the forgiveness of sin. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ was the ultimate sacrifice and those who accept Christ as Lord and Savior have no need to make sacrifices anymore.

The purpose of the “law” was to show men we couldn’t keep the laws, that we need God. Still, we tend to run back to the law because keeping rules and checking the boxes is all we know. There’s a better way!

Run to the Cross. Find your Savior there and tell Him you accept His sacrifice. Lay down your life and know that it is finished. Mercy has won the battle for your eternal life.

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

When you wander away in your thoughts, repent. When you follow the wrong path in your relationships, work, attitudes, and actions, turn away from that path. Follow me and I will lead you out of captivity!

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND!

Many of us were brought up in very religious churches where “repent” meant feeling really, really bad and enduring guilt and shame for your mistakes. Here’s the good news: Jesus says you don’t need to do that.

“Pastor Troy, you mean I’ve been beating myself up with guilt and shame for years and I didn’t have to?” That’s exactly what I’m saying.

Repentance is simply turning 180 degrees from the way you’re going. Go the opposite way. Simply put, Jesus says you need to change how you think and act. If more people truly realized what repentance is, they’d be more apt to repent.

John the Baptist, Jesus’ cousin and the Spirit-filled “second Elijah,” drew thousands to the wilderness with his challenge for people to repent and be baptized because the Kingdom of God is at hand. It still is!

Did you know John was the rightful high priest of Israel at that time? He was. His daddy, Zechariah, had been the high priest and these things are passed down through the bloodline. So, who was Caiaphas? He was a political figure who symbolized all that was wrong in that day.

When Jesus went to John to be baptized, he did not have to repent, but through the act of John dunking him, Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit and took his rightful place as High Priest in the order of Melchizedek, amen.

That was a cool rabbit trail, but what I really want to get to is this: repentance was the call in Jesus’ day and it’s still the call today. Turn away from what is eating you alive. Turn away from the sin that so easily entangles.

REPENT! Think new thoughts. Act a new way. Hang out with new friends who love Jesus and want to see you advance in the Kingdom. Leave the old behind and embrace the new. It comes with some major eternal benefits:

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord… – Acts 3:19

POINT TO JESUS

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I Am always speaking. Do you see it? Do you hear it? Look for Me and I will be found by you. Point to Me and I will be found by others.

POINT TO JESUS

I want to share a really cool revelation about baptism with you. You see, so much about the baptism of Jesus was God prophetically speaking and scripture being fulfilled through the events and the people who participated – mainly Jesus and John the Baptist.

“Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” – Mark 1: 5-8

Remember, John’s purpose was to point to Jesus and let me tell you, everything about that brother was pointing!

First off, his clothes were a prophetic sign of the King Jesus. A camel is a burden-bearer. John’s clothes screamed prophetically that Jesus was going to carry away our burdens.

John had honey and locust in his mouth. This is a prophetic picture of the Word of God being life unto some and death unto others. The bottom line is that John was a prophetic symbol doing a prophetic act.

And most of all, John was humble. He told people over and over again that he was not the Messiah. He said the one who was coming was mightier and that the water baptism he was performing was good, but the Messiah was going to baptize people with the very Spirit of God!

John was a model of Jesus’ humility. Are you? Are you pointing people to Jesus? Get out of the way and let the Good shepherd find His lost sheep.

CURE FOR A POWERLESS LIFE

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

The power of life and death is in the tongue. You have not because you ask not. Speak life over yourself and others. You have the power to bring heaven into any situation on earth. Use it!

CURE FOR A POWERLESS LIFE

When all hell is breaking loose in my life and I’m feeling like I’m losing it, I turn to my secret weapon. I break out the book of Ephesians.

Ephesians is the encouragement book. It’s got great themes like spiritual warfare. It’s got the whole armor of God. When Paul wrote this book to the church at Ephesus, he was encouraging them not to live a powerless life.

There have been plenty of times in my life where I felt powerless. I didn’t have the answers. I didn’t have a way to fix things and Jesus has shown me something incredible in that place: Just because you feel it doesn’t mean you are it.

One of the great lies of this generation is “if I feel it, then I am it.” That’s 10 pounds of baloney. Man, you’re going to feel all kinds of things that you need to stand up against. You need to tell your flesh, “Oh no, no, no. That’s not what we do.”

The Bible says, “Whosoever will,” not “Whosoever feels.” Your feelings are liars. They are poor substitutes for the truth. Amen. I feel crazy stuff especially when I deal with the darkness surrounding sexual slavery. I feel like being the machine gun preacher sometimes.

Just because I feel it, does not make it true. God’s not called me to be the machine gun preacher. He’s called me to rescue girls and boys from the darkness of slavery and to put the jokers who prey on them in prison for a very long time. I’m called to tell them about Jesus and win them as trophies of grace no matter how bad my flesh wants them to rot in the pit of hell.

That is the power of God. Doing what God tells you and seeing people the way He does despite your feelings. He will call you to love the unlovely and help those who hurt others. Why? Because He cannot stand them living a powerless life either!

Feeling powerless? You’re not! Now, turn to the book of Ephesians…

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. – Matthew 16:25

SHOUT IT OUT!

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I created you with emotions. It was not by accident. When you shout, you release emotions. You may be desperate or overcome with joy. Go ahead, shout out to me. Shout out for me. I honor your motive and your emotion.

SHOUT IT OUT!

There are many instances in the Bible where they “shouted.” There is a prophetic shout for declaring what’s going to happen, and there is another shout for when a thing is fulfilled.

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.” – Zechariah 9:9

The appropriate response to the fulfilling of prophecy is a shout. I’m telling you, shouting and prophetic works go together throughout the Bible.

“And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: ‘Shout, for the Lord has given you the city!’” – Joshua 6:16

They shouted and the response of heaven was to bring deliverance.

“Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” – Psalms 32:11

That’s a triumphant shout of praise.

“Let them shout for joy and be glad, Who favor my righteous cause; And let them say continually, ‘Let the Lord be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.’” – Psalms 35:27

Sometimes, you just need to shout because you know God favors you.

“Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth!” – Psalms 66:1

When it comes to praising God for His awesome works, it’s actually a command to shout. Don’t wait until all hell breaks loose and you get desperate. Don’t go through all that mess. Admit now that you’re not God and that you need Him.

Whether it’s a shout of praise or a “help me” shout, now is not the time to be all prim and proper. There must come a time when pride no longer matters. In Mark 10:47, blind Bartimaeus shouted and was told to be quiet. That brother just got louder. Because of his persistence and belief, he was healed, so, shout it out!
