A GOOD WORD
I declare in Jesus’ name that God sees me. He knew me before the foundations of the world. His plan for me is good! He is invested in me and I will reach my next level in Him.
A GOOD WORDAre you ready for a true gem of wisdom? Here it is: the ministry you respect is the one that changes your life. It’s the one you will model yourself and your own ministry after.
If someone asked me what kind of ministry I have at OpenDoor Church, the answer would be a prophetic ministry. There is a lot of confusion surrounding prophecy and the prophetic. Many believe those two words mean predicting the future. However, the Bible tells us what prophecy is and how it manifests.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not love, I am nothing. – 1 Corinthians 13:2
“But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort… the one who prophesies edifies the church.” – 1 Corinthians 14:3
Wow! Did you see all the cool stuff that comes along with prophecy? Fathoming mysteries and knowledge, having effective faith and speaking life and truth into people to lift them and the church up. Now, that’s something I want a double portion of!
Come to think of it, I already have that! Why? Because the ministry that I respect, the powerfully prophetic Gates of Glory Church and Pastor Howard Richardson, is the ministry that changed my life. It truly shaped me.
When I was just a mixed-up 19-year-old kid at a tent meeting in Grand Prairie, Texas, Pastor Richardson pointed me out in the crowd and prophesied that I would preach the Gospel all over the world. I didn’t know what to think, but I do know this – it felt right.
You see, his prophecy was positive reinforcement that God saw me and had a real plan for me. While prediction can be a part of prophecy, the main thing is giving people wings to move forward. I can honestly say Pastor Richardson’s word over me that night strengthened, encouraged and comforted me.I hope my words do the same for you.
TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO MOVE FORWARD IN THE MINISTRY GOD HAS GIVEN YOU. IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT THAT IS, TAKE A LOOK AT THE MINISTRY YOU RESPECT AND CONSIDER THE IMPACT IS HAS HAD ON YOUR LIFE. THAT IS THE START OF YOUR PLAN!

TPL – WHY DOES GOD SPEAK IN DREAMS?
Tuesday, May 17, 2022
What are some Biblical examples of dreams and dream interpretation?
• Daniel interpreted dreams for Nebuchadnezzar
• Joseph interpreted for Pharaoh, the baker and the cupbearer
• BOTH SAID THE INTERPRETATION CAME FROM GOD, NOT THEMSELVES
The Bible doesn’t record any more dreams from Joseph after the first two. Why not?
He couldn’t be trusted with his own dreams. He used them as weapons against his family by glorifying himself over them. Caused a family rift.
Does God still speak to us in dreams today? Why?
• Especially today. We’re so busy and distracted, our sleep time is often the only opportunity The Lord has to communicate with us and call us to Him.
• He desires intimacy with us.
Psalms 74:16 – The day is Yours, the night also is Yours…
DARK SPEECH – THE LANGUAGE OF DREAMS
Numbers 12:6-8 – “Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision; I speak to him in a dream. 7 Not so with My servant Moses; He is faithful in all My house. 8 I speak with him face to face, Even plainly, and not in dark sayings; And he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant Moses?”
• The Hebrew word for “Dark Speech” here is CHIDAH – riddle, question, perplexing
• Chidah, or “dark speech” is the language of dreams.
WHY RIDDLES, PARABLES AND PERPLEXITIES?
• RELATIONSHIP!
• Proverbs 15:2 – It is the glory of God to conceal a matter…
• Proverbs 8:17 – I love those who love me and those who seek me diligently will find me.
UPGRADE FROM DARK SPEECH IS FACE TO FACE: MOSES
Numbers 12:7 – Not so with My servant Moses; He is faithful in all My house. 8 I speak with him face to face, Even plainly, and not in dark sayings; And he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant Moses?”
• Faithfulness
• Friendship
• Face-to-face
How do you know it’s a God dream?
• God never speaks to us in fear or terror.
• Warning dreams can be alarming, but not terrorizing.
• God can use a “pizza dream”
Can the enemy use a dream to make you think it’s from God?
Yes. The enemy can hijack a dream to trip you up.
Dreamed I was on a plane and it was crashing. The stewardess said to me, “It’s not fair. I’ve been gone for 3 years and this is my first flight back, now we’re all going to die.” The next day as I was waiting for my flight, the stewardess who was going to be on that flight said those words to me. I almost lost it. I realized God never spoke to me in fear, so I got on that plane and I’m convinced to this day my presence kept that plane from crashing. Any plane I’m on is the safest plane flying.
What does it mean to have a dream inside a dream?
Dream inside a dream is important to pay attention to as they usually have something to do with your PURPOSE.
• Interpret these dreams from the inside out.
• The inner dream – symbolic of the inner court – is the core message God is speaking.
• The outer dream – symbolic of the outer court – confirms the message of the inner dream.
What is dream duplication?
Having the same dream, or a very similar version of the same dream, in the same night or within days or weeks of one another.
• Example: Pharaoh in Genesis 41 tells of two similar dreams in one night. Joseph tells him they are one in the same.
• Message: change coming.
• Both in one night – urgency – coming quickly. Get ready.
• Frequency speaks to timing
(Joseph’s two recorded dreams are an example of dream duplication)
Two people in the same household can have the same dream.
• Example: Cupbearer and baker. Same dream, but different result.
Waking up to knocking is common. What does it mean in the prophetic?
OPEN THE DOOR. LET GOD IN BECAUSE HE WANTS TO TALK WITH YOU!
• Knocking on God’s door signifies using your favor.
• Hearing God knock is a word about faith.
Revelation 3:20 – Behold I stand at the door and knock. If any man hears my voice and opens the door…
John 10:7 – I am the door to the sheep pen
Isaiah 22:22 – The key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder. Then he shall open, and no one shall shut. And he shall shut, and no one shall open.”
You say that what you do right after you wake up is almost more important than the dream itself. How so?
1) Note the time. Numbers & timing are important.
2) Write down your dream. Dreams are like manna – they disappear if you don’t employ them
3) Search out the matter
⁃ What are types, shadows and symbols in dreams?
⁃ How do I qualify for God to speak to me through dreams?
⁃ Are you seeing an increase in dreams in these last days?
⁃ Can you tell us about a dream you had that came true?
Visions & Supernatural Encounters
What is the difference between a dream and a vision?
Dreams
• When you are asleep and God is speaking to your subconscious.
• They speak to future happenings as well as referring to the past.
• Speaks of the earth realm, but can include heavenly beings and the spirit realm as they relate to the natural.
Visions
• When you are awake and God is speaking directly to your conscious being – your heart and Spirit.
• Visions are generally communicated “in the Spirit”
• Visions show us what is happening in the Spiritual realm or in heaven itself.
• They are more clear than dreams and speak of the future
• Time in the natural is often suspended while you’re in the vision.
Habakkuk 2:3 – For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry
NOTE: YOU CAN HAVE A VISION INSIDE A DREAM.
• Vision is the main message (inner court). It is likely a look into the spiritual realm
• Dream (outer court) is the natural confirmation of that vision.
• DANIEL HAD A VISION INSIDE A DREAM
Can you give us some examples of visions in the Bible?
• Genesis 15:1-5 God comes to Abram in a vision and tells him he will have an heir of his natural body.
• 1 Kings 22:19-22 Michaiah’s vision of the throne of God. Very similar to Isaiah’s vision of the throne of God.
• Ezekiel 1:1,4-6 – Ezekiel’s vision of the four living creatures
What is an encounter?
It’s literally when God shows up in some form or another and spends time with you.
He can deliver a message, make a promise, give direction, allow for your input on a matter or just get your attention.
Can you give us examples of supernatural encounters with God in the Bible?
• Abram hosting the trinity for dinner (promise of a child from Sarah & allows input on Sodom and Gomorrah)
• Joshua meeting the Captain of the Lord’s armies at Jericho (direction)
• The burning bush (get attention)
• The Road to Emmaus (message of encouragement)
What is the most significant encounter you’ve had with Jesus?
• When he showed up in the Amazon jungle and cured me of malaria. I was about to die and he just showed up, laughed and me, loved on me and I was healed.
How do you qualify for visions and supernatural encounters?
• By seeking His face. This speaks of being a friend like Moses. Requires intimacy.
• The secret place. Intimacy, seeking, reading, praying in the Spirit
• Faith

RESEARCH:
According to the Bible, one of the most common ways God uses to communicate his will to humans is through visions. They are vivid apparitions that are distinct from dreams. Although they usually appear during waking (conscious) hours, the Bible does seem to indicate that a person can experience visions while dreaming.
Visions may involve natural or supernatural settings, and the individual experiencing this miracle may be either an observer or a participant. In the Old Testament, they were considered so importance that their absence was a cause of great concern for the ancient Israelites (1Samuel 3:1, Proverbs 29:18). Some of the great men of the Bible experienced visions, often changing their lives and those of others in a dramatic way.
Visions are often communicated “in the Spirit” and often suspend time. They most often speak of what is happening in the spiritual realm or in heaven.
The English word “visions” and its singular form occurs 86 times in the Old Testament of the King James Bible and 17 times in the New Testament. In comparison, the words ‘dreams’ or ‘dream’ occurs 87 times in the Old Testament and 8 times in the New. The book with the most occurrences of visions (or its singular) is the book of Daniel (32 times) followed by Ezekiel (18).
Dreams, on the other hand, happen at night when the subconscious is at work. Dreams are often not as vivid or memorable as a vision. While visions are mostly communicated “in the Spirit,” that is not true of dreams. While the dream may be from God, often it is seen and understood in the soul realm – the mind’s eye, emotions and subconscious.
Both dreams and visions are used by God to communicate future happenings, though unlike visions, dreams often deal with past happenings.
Dreams and visions have been God’s tool to communicate with mankind’s subconscious and spirit throughout the ages and is still a preferred method of speaking to us today.

REVELATION REPORT: BLOOD MOON & JUSTICE V. JUDGMENT
Tuesday, April 17, 2022
NASA has finally done it. They’ve aimed a powerful lunar camera at the center of our Milky Way Galaxy and this is what they found (GRX GALAXY)
Ring of fire, Trinity, Covenant
God is shouting just as he was when we discovered the Whirlpool Galaxy—our closest galactic neighbor which looks like a stop sign in the heavens just begging us to look.
Look at what? The very center (GRX X-STRUCTURE)
FULL LUNAR ECLIPSE OVER AMERICA (GRX Blood Moon 1)
SUNDAY, MAY 15
Started at 10:29 pm
Peaked at 11:11 pm
Full Eclipse lasted 84 minutes
IF THAT WAS A DREAM, WHAT WOULD IT MEAN?
Eclipse (GRX Blood Moon 2-5)
Mathematically, Earth is the only place in the universe a full eclipse is possible. The sun is 400 times larger than the moon and exactly 400 times farther away from our planet. Therefore, when the earth or its shadow passes between the sun and our moon to create an eclipse, it creates a perfect “blackout” from our perspective.Solar eclipses (Moon blots out the sun from our firmament) are words about the natural or creation to the nations. Lunar eclipses (shadow of the earth blots out moon) are spiritual words to the church or the Jewish people as they often line up on Jewish feastsEclipses are seen as OMENS—words on alignment, unity and being overshadowed. As a warning, eclipses speak of need for repentance.LUNAR ECLIPSES ARE KNOWN AS BLOOD MOONS BECAUSE THE SHADOW OF THE EARTH MAKES THE MOON APPEAR RED (HEBREW WORD “ADAM”)
There are at least 43 scriptures referring to blood moons and the “Day of the Lord.”
The day Jesus comes back to the Mt. of Olives to “tabernacle” with is people for 1,000 years.
Revelation 6:12 (Sixth Seal: Cosmic Disturbances) – I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood.
Joel 2:31 – The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.
Matthew 24:29 (The Coming of the Son of Man) – “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”
DATE: May 15 – KNOWN AS SECOND PASSOVER ON HEBREW CALENDAR
God commanded the Jews to celebrate the passover, the applying of blood and the eating of the lamb “in haste.”
Moses instituted second passover—Pesach Sheni— the day when someone who was unable to participate in the Passover offering in the proper time would observe this feast exactly one month later.
5:15 Verses
Joshua 5:15 – Then the Commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.
James 5:15 – And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
1 John 5:15 – And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him
Time the eclipse started: 10:29
Hebrews 10:29 – Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
11:11 – time of totality
11:11 – double urgency! Eleventh minute of the 11th hour.
There is no place better to see this played out than in November 11 – Eleven-Eleven – a day that Americans call Veteran’s Day. If you don’t already know this, November 11 is amazingly stamped with the number eleven, and in many ways, it is associated with urgency and heroes rising.
Did you know that World War One officially ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918? In America, we celebrate the end of hostility and the beginning of unity with Veteran’s Day – a day to remember and recognize the heroes who gave their all for the cause of freedom and peace.
11:11 Scriptures in the Positive – Selfless Service and Heroes Rising
Deuteronomy 11:11 – But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven.
1 Samuel 11:11 – The next day Saul separated his men into three divisions; during the last watch of the night they broke into the camp of the Ammonites and slaughtered them until the heat of the day. Those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
2 Kings 11:11 – The guards, each with weapon in hand, stationed themselves around the king—near the altar and the temple, from the south side to the north side of the temple.
John 11:11 – After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.”
Luke 11:11 – “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead?”
Romans 11:11 – Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious.
Hebrews 11:11 – And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.
DAVID HAD 11 MIGHTY MEN OF VALOR. ELEVEN IN THE POSITIVE MEANS HEROES RISING UP AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT 1 CHRONICLES ELEVEN-ELEVEN IS ALL ABOUT.
1 Chronicles 11:11 – Jashobeam, a Hakmonite, was chief of the officers; he raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed in one encounter.
Then there is the rock star John the cousin of Jesus:
Matthew 11:11 – Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
ELEVEN IN THE NEGATIVE – JUDGMENT OF DISORDER
ELEVEN IN THE NEGATIVE SPEAKS OF JUDGMENT ON DISORDER. ELEVEN-ELEVEN COULD ALSO SYMBOLIZE A DOUBLE PORTION OF JUDGMENT ON THE MESSES WE CREATE.
JOSPEH CREATED A BIG MESS WHEN HE TOLD HIS DREAMS TO HIS FAMILY. THESE DREAMS WERE BETWEEN GOD AND JOSEPH HIMSELF – GOD TRUSTED HIM WITH THIS INFORMATION ABOUT HIS FUTURE. BUT JOSEPH USED THAT INFORMATION TO DRIVE A HUGE WEDGE OF JEALOUSY AND BITTERNESS BETWEEN HIMSELF AND HIS BROTHERS – THEY EVENTUALLY FAKED HIS DEATH AND SOLD HIM INTO SLAVERY:
THE 1111TH VERSE IN THE BIBLE:
Genesis 37:27 – Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.
JUST LIKE THE PHARISEES SOLD JESUS OUT AND WERE CONTENT.
SOLOMON, THE WISEST MAN EVER TO LIVE, HAD HIS SHARE OF DISORDER:
1 Kings 11:11 – So the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates.”
JOB SAW A TERRIBLE SEASON OF DISORDER:
Job 11:11 – Surely he recognizes deceivers; and when he sees evil, does he not take note?
JEREMIAH, EZEKIEL AND DANIEL ALL LIVED IN DAYS FILLED WITH GOD’S JUDGMENT FALLING ON THE DISORDER OF REBELLIOUS MAN:
Jeremiah 11:11 – Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them.”
Ezekiel 11:11 – This city will not be a pot for you, nor will you be the meat in it; I will execute judgment on you at the borders of Israel.
Daniel 11:11 – “Then the king of the South will march out in a rage and fight against the king of the North, who will raise a large army, but it will be defeated.”
Proverbs 11:11 – Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.
Isaiah 11:11 – In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the surviving

Revelation 11:11 – But after the three and a half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them.
84 minutes long – Psalms 84 is when all things are made right!!
Psalm 84
How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts! 2 My soul longs, yes, even faints For the courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. 3 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, Where she may lay her young— Even Your altars, O Lord of hosts, My King and my God. 4 Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; They will still be praising You. Selah
Speaking of 84 and 11:
Psalms 84:11 – For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
Psalm 84:11 calls the Lord God our “sun” and shield. Check out the only other place I can find God/Jesus called our “Sun”:
Malachi 4 – The Great Day of God
“For behold, the day is coming, Burning like an oven, and all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,” says the Lord of hosts, “That will leave them neither root nor branch. 2 But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves.”

HIS HEART IN THE HEADLINES
I declare in Jesus’ name that I am a trailblazer for my generations. I will follow Holy Spirit into new places and uncharted territory. He will make a way where there is no way.
HIS HEART IN THE HEADLINESIn 2005, a giant waterfall was discovered in California. The 400-foot hidden wonder was found just 15 miles from a national park headquarters in Shasta County. It had been there for centuries and nobody knew it.
Now, 400 feet of raging whitewater sounds like it would be hard to miss, but miss it they did. I believe it is a prophetic voice for you and I.
Something so magnificent waiting to be discovered could only be seen from above. Nobody trekked in and discovered it. It was found through satellite images.
Sometimes you can’t see the proverbial forest for the trees and sometimes you can’t see the 400-foot raging waterfall because it is off the trail everybody traditionally walks on. This waterfall was there all the time, but it was off the map.
I hear the heartbeat of the Father in this event. God knew it was there all the time. He was just waiting for someone to discover it. When they did, I’m sure it was a great day for the Lord.
The Father is waiting for you to move forward for upgrade. He wants you to discover new facets of Him and to explore new opportunities to share Him with others.
TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO ASK GOD FOR A NEW DISCOVERY OF HIM AND HIS MASTER PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE. YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED BY WHAT YOU FIND.

MR. FIX IT
I declare in Jesus’ name that God knows the desires of my heart. It is His good pleasure to give these things to me. Nothing is too great or too small for the Father so I will seek Him while He may be found!
MR. FIX ITFor years before OpenDoor Food Bank became a reality, my family and I would pick up food from Bread Basket Ministries and hit the road every Saturday to take food to over 70 needy seniors.
These people were so happy to see us, they would hug my kids nearly to death. They would invite us in for lemonade or to visit on the porch. However, there was one woman who always met us at the gate and let me hand her the bags over the fence.
I could tell she was uneasy about letting us into her home. It became apparent it was something deeply shameful. Me being as subtle as a meat cleaver, asked what the problem was. She turned beet red and said she was too embarrassed to have anyone in her home because her roof had leaked badly for over 20 years. It had caused her floors and walls to rot.
While I wanted to tell her I could round up some guys to come in and fix the problem, I knew better. I didn’t want to promise something I couldn’t deliver despite the plan forming in my head. Instead, I asked if we could pray for God to do a miracle.
She said she felt silly asking God to fix her roof when so many other people needed bigger or more important things. Hmmmm.
She was a really sweet old lady with good intentions, but that line of thinking had kept her from being blessed for a very long time. I told her she needed to get over that feeling and ask God to provide, and pray we did. Saturday rolled around and as we pulled up to her house, my eyes nearly bugged out. It was an entirely new house!
She came running to hug me, excited and full of life. She was so grateful to God for answering her prayer.
She said the city was putting up a new telephone pole a few days after I left. It crashed through her roof and damaged the walls and floors. Being an election year, the mayor didn’t want the bad press of making a sweet old lady homeless. By Friday she had new framework, floors, walls and a new roof.
For the first time, I saw the inside of her house – the house God built. We blessed her and the house with prayer.
When I look back on that miracle, I know God had been waiting for years to give that woman a new roof. It never occurred to her to ask because she underestimated God. She thought he would see her roof as trivial. How it must have hurt our Father to know she assumed He considered her unimportant. She was wrong on both counts.
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives, and he who seeks, finds and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, He will give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know who to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in Heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” –Matthew 7:17-12

DESPERATE TIMES, DESPERATE MEASURES
I declare in Jesus’ name that your eyes, Lord, are upon me. You know my need. My heart is pure. I give this battlefield to you. The battle is yours, not mine. You are my champion defender. You are always victorious.
DESPERATE TIMES, DESPERATE MEASURESHere’s a truth bomb: miracles are not God’s best for His people. Miracles are there for God’s people when a miracle is required.
The fertile ground that bears the fruit of a miraculous move of God is typically a dangerous place to stand. You don’t see miracles when there is money in the bank and a 7-11 on the corner. You don’t hear of the miracle healing of a skin disorder when all you have to do is apply the cream your insurance paid your doctor for.
Why? Miracles are powerful moves for very desperate times. It’s an important biblical lesson to learn: It’s better to not need a miracle.
Some of the most mind-bending manifestations of God are born in the midst of chaos and controversy. It was like that when God parted the Red Sea for the children of Israel. It was like that when Jesus fed 5000 men (and a lot more women and children) using five rolls and two smoked fish. Against all odds, the hand of God moves.
1995 was a very dangerous time for Leanna and I. Not because our lives were in peril, but because we were in the infant stages of building what is now OpenDoor Church and so much was on the line. We needed and saw many miracles that year.
I want to stop right there and remind you of this: it is always the devil’s plan to snuff out a work of God before it is able to stand.
“…and the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born.” – Revelation 12:4
Satan is a relentless opportunist! 1 Peter 5:8 tells us he’s like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. He’s really not all that powerful because he needs your permission to devour you! Those who don’t know any better, open the door for him to tear them to pieces. This is lack of trust in God’s power to deliver you!
TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO KNOW THE DEVIL IS POWERLESS OVER YOU IF YOU DON’T OPEN THE DOOR AND LET HIM IN. TRUST IN GOD’S POWER TO DELIVER YOU FROM HIS ENEMY THROUGH A MIRACLE. CALL ON HIS NAME WITH CONFIDENCE!

THE ELEPHANT IN THE CHURCH: Should we even go to church?
Sunday, May 14, 2022
Pastor Jerry Sellers, OpenDoor Church, Burleson, TX
The expression “the elephant in the room” is a metaphorical idiom in English for an important or enormous topic, question, or controversial issue that is obvious—that everyone knows about but no one mentions or wants to discuss because it makes at least some of them uncomfortable and is personally, socially, or politically embarrassing, controversial, inflammatory, or dangerous.
It is based on the idea/thought that something as conspicuous as an elephant can appear to be overlooked.
In 1814, the poet Ivan Krylov (1769–1844), wrote a fable entitled “The Inquisitive Man” which tells of a man who goes to a museum and notices all sorts of tiny things, but fails to notice an elephant. The phrase became proverbial.
Part 1: Pastor Troy focused on how men, over time, have been stripped of their masculinity, and how the church needs to rescue the dude.
Well, today there are a lot more subjects we could address that would fall in the description of “An Elephant in the Church.”
SEX (BEFORE MARRIAGE, LIVING TOGETHER, DIVORCE AND ADULTERY, SAME SEX), POLITICS, WOMEN’S AUTHORITY IN THE CHURCH, TONGUES AND THE CHARISMATIC GIFTS, MONEY, RACISM AND ON AND ON.
Today, I want to go a different direction and talk about the church itself. Do you really need to go to church? So to jump right in, let me throw out a question as a way to get into our subject.
Does going to church make you a Christian?
Going to church does not make you a Christian.
Following JESUS does.
Claiming God or going to a Bible study doesn’t make you a Christian. Actually following Jesus does. Believing in God doesn’t make you a Christian, Following Jesus does. Reading your Bible or praying doesn’t make you a Christian. Following Jesus does. Tithing or giving offerings doesn’t make you a Christian. Following Jesus does.
Let start off with the first statement: Does going to church make you a Christian? I think today is a great opportunity to talk about the elephant of going to church…
Let me ping your cringe meter. Are you ready? do you think you can handle it? OKKKKKAY Here I go…..
MAYBE SOME OF US NEED TO STOP GOING TO CHURCH!
God’s highest calling for you as a follower of Christ is not for you to go to church. God’s highest calling for you is to be conformed to the image of Christ, of His dear Son, not going to church but to be
PLANTED IN THE CHURCH
To be the church. To be a light shining into a dark world.
God’s highest calling is never to go to a church, but to be planted in the House of God. To be equipped, trained and sent out into the world. Maybe instead of going to church, it’s time to be planted in the house of God.
Psalm 92:12 – The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Let me stop here and unpack this first verse…What does that word flourish mean? The word flourish is not a common word that we use today.
If you come up to me and say, “Hey, Jerry how are you doing today?” I’m not going to say, “Well, dude. I’m flourishing.” I’m not going to say that, but it’s really a great picture of what happens when your planted. So what does it mean?
It means Thriving…Growing…Prospering…Be a Blessing…Having Spiritual Growth…and the writer here compares it to two trees.
The Cedar and the Palm tree.
Cedars are known for durability, being pleasant to look at and for their smell. Solomon used Cedars in the Temple for the columns, post, beams and roof because the building was to last for centuries. It’s durable.
A Palm branch is symbolic of triumph and victory. If you where able to be a part of the Corinthian games a few thousand years ago, whoever won the games was presented with a palm branch. It would be considered today the gold medal.
When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, it is known as the Triumphal Entry. Here comes the King so they waved palm branches at him.
The righteous will flourish. “Hey, Bro. How you doing?”
“Man I am flourishing. I’m growing. I’m am blessed. I am strong. I am stable. I am pleasing to be around.”
Both of these trees are green all year long. There’s life. There’s strength. There is victory. There’s fruit. The righteous will flourish like a Palm tree. They will grow like a Cedar of Lebanon. Who will flourish?
Psalms 92:13 – Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
The Bible doesn’t say those who go to Church will flourish, but those who are Planted in the House of the Lord will flourish in the courts of God.
Psalms 92:14 – They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing
Those who are planted in the house of the Lord, they’re flourishing, they’re blessed, they’re prospering, they’re connected, they’re emotionally engaged, they’re making a difference, they’re fulfilled, they are flourishing.
Unfortunately many of you, if we were using that language, you wouldn’t use the word flourishing.
Instead of saying, “I’m spiritually flourishing,” you might say, “Well, honestly, I’m spiritually dry,” right?
Instead of saying, “I’m thriving emotionally,” some would say, “I am emotionally withering.”
Instead of saying, “I’m connected relationally,” some would say, “I’m relationally barren.”
Instead of saying, “I’m prospering financially with breathing room to be a blessing,” so many would say, “Financially, I’m hurting, and restrained.”
Instead of saying, “I’m fulfilled spiritually—making a difference, full of joy,” so many people say, “I’m still searching, reaching, longing for, hoping for that thing—that hit, that something, that buzz, that relationship, that job, that whatever it is that I don’t have that would fulfill what I’m missing on the inside. I go to church, but I’m not flourishing.”
Those who are planted are those who flourish. Okay. I get that. So what do I need to do?
RecognizeYour Life is a SeedWhat does that mean? It means that a seed has tremendous potential. A seed has the potential to grow, to thrive, to multiply, to produce fruit, to be a blessing to others, but a seed that’s not planted has the potential to lie dormant, unproductive, unfruitful, and dissatisfied. Your life is a seed. Say that with me, “MY LIFE IS A SEED.”
Let me give you a couple principles about planting, and the seed. The first one is this, what do we know about a seed?
A SEED CAN ONLY GROW IF IT’S PLANTED
A seed can only grow if it’s planted. Who flourishes? Those who are planted in the house of God. In fact, Jesus told a really powerful story in Matthew 13. He was talking about a farmer. He used the word sower. He said a sower went out to sow, or to plant, some seed, and the sower threw seed out, and some of the seed fell on a path, on hard ground, and since that seed couldn’t ever take root, birds came along and stole the seed.
That seed never reached its potential. Some seeds fell in shallow soil, and so it spurted up, but because the roots never grew deep, whenever the sun beamed down, it withered up, and died immediately. Some started to grow, but then some other plants with thorns choked out the life of that little emerging plant, and Jesus said it was the worries, and the concerns of this life.
Do you see the metaphor? Some people, they have potential, but they never go anywhere. Some start to grow, but then they fade away. Some start to thrive spiritually, but the worries, concerns, the bills, and the struggles of life choke out the spiritual growth. But then, Jesus said, a seed that falls on good soil multiplies! It multiplies—some 30 times, some 60 times, some 100 times.
That one seed becomes a massive blessing because it was planted in good soil. Who is it that flourishes? Those who are planted in the house of the Lord. A seed can only grow if it’s planted.
Second thing we need to understand is this:
GOING TO CHURCH ISN’T THE SAME AS BEING PLANTED
There’s a real difference. You can hear it even in the language. For example, some of you, if you go to church, and here’s probably what you might have said this week:
“Hey, are we gonna go to church today?”
“I’m kind of thinking, we’re kind of busy.”
“There’s a lot going on, there’s a game.”
“We’re kind of tired, and you know, can we go out to that restaurant we like?”
And you know, kids: “I’m not sure what we’re gonna do.”
“We went last week…”
Listen, when you’re planted, you’ll say, “We are gonna go to church.” Because church isn’t a destination to which you attend. The church is a posture. It’s who you are. It is an identity inside of us.
We recognize even the Greek word translated as church has great meaning. There’s the word ekklesia—it means two things: it means both “gathering,” or “assembly.”
In other words, if you listen to a preacher’s podcast, that’s good, and I recommend you do that, but that’s not the same as being planted in the house of the Lord. In the same way, I don’t want to have relational connection with my children when they listen to a voice message that I send them. I want them assembled in my house, because I am the father, and I love my family gathered together. It’s the assembly, it’s the gathering, but the word ekklesia: ek means out; klesia comes from the word kaleo, which means called. It very literally means “the called out ones.” In other words, we gather together to be unified. We gather together to honor our God. We gather together to corporately worship and hear the Word of God. We gather together to use our gifts, but as we are strengthened, we take all this and take it to the world.
Those who flourish are those who are planted. When we’re planted, we’re not spiritual consumers. The church does not exist for us. When we’re followers of Christ, we realize we are the church, and we exist for the world. There’s a massive difference between going to a building and being plugged into a calling, a movement, a mission.
There are 2 different types of church goers:
Consumers vs. Contributors
This leads me to another truth about being planted. If you are planted in the house of God and you want to Flourish, then you are
2. A Contributor
Ephesians 4:11-13 – And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;
The Church is the Body of Christ. In fact the Bible says Jesus is the Head of the body, The head of the Church. Here is another opportunity to ping your cringe meter: are you ready….?
I believe that if your planted in the house of the Lord, your roots are growing deeper and deeper. You’re bearing fruit. Your seed is multiplying. You’re being equipped because you are working in the ministry. You are involved in some form of ministry. You are a contributor. You’re working, serving, impacting, encouraging, and edifying the body of Christ.
Notice I said “your roots are growing deep.” Why is this important? Deep roots allow you to make it through times of drought. The hard times. The difficult times. Times when you have been wronged. Times of offense. You flourish even though there’s drought.
Let’s close with a couple of CTA’s.
Maybe you’re not planted. You have been attending for awhile but realize it’s time to move from a consumer to a contributor. I would invite you and encourage you to go to our membership class.
101 is always the 1st Sunday of every month at 9:30. Then 201 is on the 2nd Sunday, 301 3rd and so forth.
Then if you’re a member but not a contributor, and you’re not using your gifts and talents, you’re not building up the body the church. Find a place to serve to become a river and not a reservoir.

SKYWARD
I declare in Jesus’ name, I am a Proverbs 25:2 king. I want your glory, Father, to fall on me. I want the honor of knowing you more and deeper. I proclaim your revelation word over myself today that you would fill me with your spirit and wrap your presence around me.
SKYWARDIn 1990, NASA deployed the Hubble Space Telescope from the space shuttle Discovery. Scientists were determined to see what had never been seen before.
I think God gets excited anytime somebody does that – reaches for the undiscovered.
At one point, they aimed the telescope toward a very dark, seemingly empty part of space and waited 10 days for the images to be beamed back. They found that what they thought was desolate space, was anything but as millions, even billions of celestial bodies were discovered. They counted over 1,500 galaxies, each containing millions of stars.
How patient God is for us to finally discover what He has always had there for us! I don’t know about you, but I’m not like that. It is amazing to me that He is so anxious for us to see some facet of His character or kingdom, and so patient with our ability to find it. He’s just awesome.
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. – 2 Peter 3:8
This verse specifically speaks of God’s patience with us. It is how long He will wait for us to come to Him, or to discover something new about Him in our quest for upgrade.
He also loves it when we discover something new about His creation. The Sombrero Galaxy was hanging there in the sky for a very long time before someone looked up and said, “Wow!” The entire North American continent and western world sat silent for a long time before Europe heard of it. El Capitan in Yosemite Valley stood rock solid in pristine condition for eons before the Paiute Indians made their camps there.
It took adventurous people who would not be confined to what was known to unlock these things for the rest of us. So it is with the things of God.
“This is God’s Message, the God who made earth, made it livable and lasting, known everywhere as God: ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’” – Jeremiah 33:3 (The Message Bible)
TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO MAKE GOD SMILE BY REACHING FOR THE UNDISCOVERED. GO AFTER A NEW REVELATION OF HIM. HE LOVES TO BE FOUND AND WILL BLESS YOU MIGHTILY FOR YOUR EFFORTS.

WHO TOLD YOU THAT?
I declare in Jesus’ name that supernatural blueprints and strategies for success are flowing from your Word into my heart and mind. Every area of lack in my life is being revived and restored. I receive it, speak it out and move forward in it today.
WHO TOLD YOU THAT?You would never go into a courtroom without a plan and a strategy for success, especially if your freedom, or your life, was on the line. Not having a plan is a messed up way to think.
In the same way, it’s messed up to think, “If this is of God, it will happen.” My question to you is this: who told you that?
Lots of times, Christians go into marriage, parenting, a career or ministry without a strategy or any kind of plan. They do this truly believing that, “If it’s God’s will, I will succeed. If it’s not, I won’t.”
If this is you, you need a serious Soul Invasion to set you free from crazy way of thinking.
First of all, God doesn’t say “if” He wants you to prosper you will. That’s crazy! God wants everyone to prosper. God hates for anyone to fail or fall.
The Lord does not delay, as though He were unable to act, and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you not wishing any to perish but for all to come to repentance. – 2 Peter 3:9
The truth is, nobody deals with more disappointment than God Almighty! There have been billions of people He has set up for success who were never able to grab hold of it. This breaks His heart!
It reminds me of the time Jesus stood on the Mount of Olives. Knowing the people not only rejected Him, but the gift of salvation and blessings He offered, tears streamed down His face as He said:
“Oh, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.” – Matthew 23:37
What He was saying is this: “I wanted to do such great things with you, and for you, but you just wouldn’t let me.”
You see, the way it works is not“IF” God wants something to happen, it will. The rule is, if God wants it to happen, AND YOU GET WITH HIS PROGRAM, it will happen. You don’t prosper and have success just because God wants you to. You prosper and have success because you’re committed to the plan God has for you.
TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO BE DILIGENT, DETERMINED AND DECISIVE. IT IS ALWAYS GOD’S WILL FOR YOU TO PROSPER. GET WITH HIS PROGRAM FOR YOUR LIFE AND STOP LEAVING YOUR FUTURE UP TO BLIND CHANCE!
