Call for Submissions: Samhain Publishing Summer Olympics 2012 Romance Anthology

Does the sight of two men going at it in a boxing ring turn you on? How about those tight baseball and football pants? Do you love to watch a man (or woman!) in a Speedo slice through the water? Or maybe it's those little track shorts that rev your engine.

I'm thrilled and excited to announce an open call for submissions for a new, yet-to-be titled Summer 2012 Summer Olympics romance anthology. I'm looking for stories that revolve around events happening during the Summer Olympics, being held in London in 2012 from July 27 to August 12. Stories focusing on the 2012 Summer Olympics in London are preferred, though a great story is a great story no matter the year and location, so I will be willing to look at stories taking place at/during previous Summer Olympic years and cities.

Also, please be aware that, as a primarily romance publisher, we require all stories for this anthology to fit into the romance genre, complete with "happy ever after" or "happy for now" ending. Any heat level is admissible, as well as m/f, m/m, f/f and any ménage combination.

The novellas must range between 25,000 to 30,000 words in length, no more, no less, and will be released individually as ebooks in June 2012 and combined as a single print release approximately one year later. Please note, only manuscripts that fall in this word count will be considered for this anthology.

Submissions are open to all authors, published with Samhain or aspiring to be published with Samhain. All submissions must be new material—previously published submissions will not be considered. Additionally, manuscripts previously submitted, whether individually or for past anthologies, will not be considered either. Please be aware that manuscripts submitted to this anthology cannot be resubmitted at a later date unless by invitation from an editor. Please note, we are not accepting multiple submissions for this anthology. If you already have a manuscript under consideration with Samhain and would also like to send in a submission to this anthology, please query editor@samhainpublishing.com first.

To submit a manuscript for consideration, please include:

The full manuscript (of 25,000 to 30,000 words) with a comprehensive 2-5 page synopsis. Please include a letter of introduction/query letter. Full manuscripts are required for this as it is a special project.

As well, when you send your manuscript, please be sure to use the naming convention SummerOlympics_Title_MS and SummerOlympics_Title_Synopsis. This will ensure that your submission doesn't get missed in the many submissions we receive.

Submissions are open until September 1, 2011. No submissions will be accepted after this date-no exceptions. A final decision will be made by October 15, 2011. Please send your submission to editor@samhainpublishing.com and include Summer Olympics Anthology in the subject line. Questions and queries can be addressed to Tera Kleinfelter (tera@samhainpublishing.com).

Six Sentence Sunday

This six is from a new project. I've given the book 10k to sell itself to me. This is part of the first chapter.

His eyes narrowed with thinly veiled promise. Perfect.

I looped the thread behind his head, jerking down hard enough his chin caught my shoulder. While he was stunned, I twisted to his side, away from his sword, until I stood at his back and my makeshift garrote sliced his throat. My knee at his lower back gave me leverage. Using my weight, I pulled until he gurgled wetly and my thread flossed between his vertebrae.

Six Sentence Sunday

Today is a big day for me (and hubby). It's our twelve year wedding anniversary. It's unreal we've been married for so long. I mean, that sounds like a long time. It just doesn't feel that way. So, Happy Anniversary to my sweetie! Here's to the next twelve years, and then another and another, as we work our way through that forever he promised me. ;)

"Since when do you knock?" she called, claiming a seat on the edge of her desk.

"Since Marlin offered me a tire iron for protection when I asked where you were."

"Oh, please." She rolled her eyes. "Every bad word in my vocabulary fell from that man's lips."

Ellis chuckled.

Autograph Addiction

I have a thing for autographed books. If an author writes a series I love, I want a physical copy, even though my preferred reading method is via Kindle. And I want it signed. This is where having a network of friends more well-traveled than I could ever hope to be, comes in handy. They get the books I love signed by the people who have written them.

The only two out of my collection I can list now, that I had signed in person, came from Karen Moning's signing in ATL the year before last.

Still, some of them, like my signed copy of Grave Peril, give me chills to hold. They really are priceless treasures to me. Here are a few of my favorites.

Six Sentence Sunday

Happy Sunday, all! This is a huge week for my family. My little girl turns eleven on Tuesday, and Friday is a trip to the GA Aquarium. Woo hoo! Love that place. Next Sunday is also a big day for us, but I'll talk more about that next week. ;)

Across the room, the mattress squeaked as the mark shifted his weight. His bare chest presented itself to the ceiling as his tangled limbs twitched in peaceful sleep I'd soon end.

The stink of cigarettes permeated the room and would linger on my clothing long after my work here was done. I probably burned more clothes in my fireplace than I kept in my closet.

Experience taught me water alone could not wash away sins. They stained.
