Six Sentence Sunday
By request, this week's six picks up almost directly after last week's excerpt.
Then I sprinted down the hall and out the rear exit, skittering through gravel. Sunlight cost me my vision long enough I heard my sister's pained cry before I saw her.
Maddie knelt beside Clayton, who sagged against the brick wall opposite the door he'd torn from its hinges to reach my sister. Her pale hands were stained red, and his right wing hung from his shoulder in tatters. Blood pooled at his hip. His black eyes shone with feral intensity, but each stroke of her hand down his cheek lulled his heaving chest into a more even rhythm.

Healing Hearts by Taryn Kincaid
I've been catching snippets of this novella for the past couple of months through Six Sunday. Now that it's released, I had to pick up a copy. I'm hoping I can read it over the weekend.
As a girl, Emma Whiteside asked Adam Caldwell, Viscount Riverton, to wait for her to be of marriageable age. Now, twelve years later, Emma hates Adam as much as she once loved him, holding the former army major responsible for the death of her brother on the battlefield.
Adam already blames himself for the loss of the men under his command. But the fiery young woman Emma's become sparks his arousal, as well as emotions Adam thought long dead. The passion between them makes him want to reclaim the man he was before the war.
Though she tries to hold on to her hatred, Emma's longing for Adam is undeniable, especially after the two share a smoldering kiss. Still, Adam is certain no woman would want a man so damaged. Can Emma prove him wrong?

Paranormal Romantics
Today I'm talking about a rather interesting-looking movie I'm thinking of going to see. DH is not convinced it will be worth two hours of our lives, but I think it looks pretty darn cool. Plus, there's a dragon! Hello? WIN! Check it out here.

Carina Press Steampunk Holiday Collection
Carina Press is pleased to announce a call for submissions for our 2011 holiday collections. This will be the only open collection call for 2011 and is an excellent opportunity for authors interested in participating in the normally by-invitation-only Carina Press collections.
Carina is looking for steampunk novellas with a winter or winter holiday theme, to be published digitally both individually and as a collection in December 2011. The novellas should be from 18,000 to 35,000 words and feature steampunk elements as integral to the novella. The stories do not need to be romance, or even have romance elements, but can be straight steampunk, or steampunk with romantic elements, and can also feature elements of mystery, thriller, horror or other sub-genres. Additionally, there is no set heat level for these stories, so they can have no sex, or be ultra-sexy, or anything in between.
Essentially, we're looking for interesting, creative, well-written stories within the steampunk niche that will appeal to readers' imaginations and add to our growing catalog of steampunk stories.
The steampunk holiday collection will be supported by a marketing and promotion campaign both online and in print. In addition, though the collection won't currently be offered for sale in print format, each author chosen to contribute to the anthology will receive a set number of limited edition print copies for their own use.
To submit, please send your completed manuscript and synopsis, along with query letter to submissions@carinapress.com by May 15th, 2011. In the subject line, please put Steampunk Holiday: Manuscript Title and Author
All submissions will be reviewed and final decision made by June 15th, 2011.
For questions about this call for submissions, please email Angela James at submissions@carinapress.com

Etopia Press Submission Calls
The call of the wild on a cool desert night, the crisp ocean breeze exciting the pack… whatever does it for your shifter heroes or heroines does it for us. Give us your hottest erotic shifter stories, your most romantic tales of conflict and passion, all rolled into your sexiest summer setting and make us howl with joy! Keep them predatory and sexy… the werehamsters may have their own call at a later date. The best of the shorter works will be selected for a print anthology as well as individual e-book release.
Submission Deadline: May 1, 2011
Word Count: 10K through novel length.
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance featuring male or female Shifters (m/f, m/m, ménage, IR/MC/BBW/OW, you name it)
Format Individual Release and Anthology
Address submissions to: ShiftIntoSummer@etopia-press.net
Don't Turn Off the Light…
We're looking for traditional and cutting-edge horror, the kind that's scary, not simply graphic depictions of death. Hauntings, rural backwoods horror, urban noir, the madness that lies within… it's all good, as long as the mood is dark and there's plenty of tension to drive the characters to the limit. If it's a more traditional tale, make sure it hasn't been done to death (graphic or otherwise). We want character-driven stories that will keep us up into the wee hours…to avoid turning off the light. The best of the shorter works will be selected for a print anthology as well as individual e-book release.
Submission Deadline: June 1
Word Count: 20K and up
Genre: horror, all sub-genres
Theme: any theme, as long as it's scary.
Format: Individual Release and Anthology
Address submissions to: DontTurnOffTheLight@etopia-press.net
Black Cat Tales…
Or tails… or whiskers… or whatever other black cat bits you can fit into a Halloween-themed story. This call is open to all genres and categories—literary fiction, romance, erotic romance, urban fantasy, horror, SF—whatever best tells your tale involving a black cat as a significant story element. More than that, we're not going to say. Just make sure they cross our path by June 1, 2011. The best of the shorter works will be selected for a print anthology as well as individual e-book release.
Submission Deadline: July 1, 2011
Word count: 15K through novel length
Genre: All
Themes: Halloween, Black Cats
Format: Individual Release and Anthology
Address submissions to: BlackCatTales@etopia-press.net
In the Line of Fire…
Do you write your romance splashed with a liberal amount of suspense? Do you think a nice, safe story is just boring without a hefty dose of danger? Do you love keeping your readers guessing who done somebody wrong? We're looking for your hottest romantic suspense stories, heavy on conflict and adventure, with tough-guy heroes to die for and feisty heroines who don't need anyone to save them, thank you very much. If this sounds like your book, we're dying to read it. The best of the shorter works will be selected for a print anthology as well as individual e-book release.
Submission Deadline: September 1, 2011
Word Count: 25K and up.
Genre: Romantic suspense, all heat levels from sweet to erotic
Theme: All
Format: Anthology and Individual Release
Address Submissions to: inthelineoffire@etopia-press.net
Ho-Ho-Holiday Heat…
We're shopping early for your best erotic romance novellas for our Ho-Ho-Holiday theme. Are you on Santa's naughty list? Stranded in a little too much snow on Christmas Eve? Working some special Solstice magic? Anything goes, as long as it's hot, hot, hot! M/M, IR, MC, BBW, BDSM, ménage… all the better.
Submission Deadline: September 1, 2011
Word count: 15-35K
Genre: Erotic Romance (m/f, m/m, ménage), all subgenres, standard heat ratings of 4 or 5.
Theme: Winter Holidays
Format: Individual Release
Address Submissions to: HolidayHeat@etopia-press.net

Paranormal Romantics
I did a revisit to my Kindle cases accessories post today on PNRomantics. A commenter posted a reply that has me eyeing my Kindle as we speak. Apparently, in some cases, the Amazon Kindle case can cause spontaneous resets. That's not good. The problem seems to be limited to the unlighted case, but I'm Googling for more information now. It's a shame something I love so well might harm the device it was created to cover. Still…here are my thoughts. You can read hers in the comment section.

Six Sentence Sunday
This Sunday I'm knee deep in lime green paint and zebra striped wallpaper. Oh yeah, being mom to a preteen girl is an adventure.
"I don't like this."
I didn't either. Drums pounded in my temples to a wanton beat. Around me, the room spun in clockwise circles. Drunken ambition sloshed through me. Yet I hadn't had a sip of wine.
