Word Joy

For the past few months, Jordan has been taking a writing course through a community education program via our local community college. These classes aren't accredited and taught by people who want to share their craft or knowledge.

I've always known Jordan had the potential to be a good, if not great, writer. Her imagination amazes me. Until recently, she channeled her imagination into her drawing. But, even then, she always gave her characters backstories. I knew if she ever put those...

Halfway Through & A New Plan ~ @AuthorKristina Knight

Liz (and Nan and Margie and Ava and Jana) reminded me last week that I am woefully behind on both my reading challenges for this year. Well, assuming that I'm only counting the books that I've finished. There have been a handful of books that I started and stopped...and feel no real motivation to start up again.

I will say, though, that I'm more-caught-up with the general 'read 50 books this year' challenge than I am on the themed read/watch challenge. I got stuck back in April on that one (th...

But I LIKE the Oxford Comma!

I got an email the the other day. It had one of those innocuous-looking paper clips beside it. No harm. No biggie. No...oh, dear...yes, it's the line edits for my December book, The Happiness Pact, from Harlequin Heartwarming. There are many, many, many notations on the formatted document. Did I say many? Yes, that's exactly what I meant. The number of suggested changes is in the...well, never mind. Let it suffice to say many. And, yeah, I can see I've said it too often already. A c...

Money and Happiness

http://www.401kcalculator.org/Last week I talked about experiences vs. things; which make you happier? This got me thinking about happiness and money.

Money is a big deal for me. Making money, saving money, spending money – I think about those things a lot, maybe because I’m the one who pays the bills in our house. What’s the best way for me to use the money I have to give myself a psychological boost?

Buying Experiences rather then Possessions – Every article I’ve read talks about how buying e...

We're half-way there?!?

In keeping with the mid-year review theme we have going, I’ll just say “Gah! Is the year half-over already?!?”

The passage of time always sneaks up on us, and this year is no different for me. I began January railing at 2017 for starting out sucky. Yes, my emotions were pretty raw at that point. Fortunately, time also has a way of tempering the drama. My loved ones who were battling illnesses have since recovered. My mother’s estate is almost finalized, which leaves more time for…everything e...

I was going to---

Do a half year check in, but then I realized that would take about a paragraph.

I'm under my reading goal by quite a few--I have 18 completed.  Too bad I can't count the ones I started, read most of, and for some reason, stopped. That would get me to the half way mark for sure. Maybe I should just find those and finish them. Yesterday when I was going through my Kindle to see what I"d finished, I realized I don't even remember half the books I've bought and downloaded.

And while I've...

#AuthorInterview: Susanne Matthews Visits the Round Corral

Hiya, WordWranglers readers! We're excited to invite Susanne Matthews into the Round Corral for a little visit. Susanne's going to answer our questions and then share a little about her new book, Sworn to Protect! Let's get right to it!

Kristina: You're going to be running between appointments all day, with lots of hurry-up-and-wait time. You're going to read while you wait. What writer will keep you sane and entertained all day?

Susanne: That’s a tough question to answer. I have a lot of...

The midyear report

Doesn't that title look official, like we actually have a midyear report!

I wrote "The End" the other day and celebrated by having lunch at a favorite place with the roommate. Not that the story won't have to be ripped apart and sewn back together, but the first telling--that's the biggie.

Just as I start each year wondering where publishing will take us over the next 12 months, with Harlequin's heartbreaking decision about closing lines, I'm wondering the same thing about the next six. On one...
