The grassy berm

One of the cool things about being a writer is that most of the time, you're not walking carefully down the beaten track. You're skipping or often leaping from one grassy berm to the other. Sometimes you're tiptoeing down that crowned spot in the middle where you could very easily fall off. Every now and then, when you're standing in the shade of the maple tree near the corner deciding which way to turn, you spend so much time saying "what if..." that you miss the turn altogether and end up i...

In the Good Old Summer Time
Like Margie said the other day, it's hot. For the most part I love it; when winters last as long as they do in western Canada, you don't complain about a few hot days. (If you do someone will say, "Wait until January!)

Back from Conference
Happy Friday everyone! With getting the kiddos ready for the start of the new school year, it seems like eons ago that I was down in steamy, sultry Orlando for the RWA National Conference. But I
promised a recap of my experience, and I wouldn’t dare be derelict in my duties.
While it had seemed like a brilliant idea at the time, my biggest mistake was making this a family vacation/conference trip. I stayed off-site at another resort, so had to worry about timing my travel arrangements and coup...

A Hot Memory

August is here and it's hot. Too hot for this pluviophile. 103 yesterday, 106 today. I melt in the sun, not the rain.
But, this type of weather reminds me of my grandmother. She was a complicated woman--and that's a nice way of saying it. She was no-nonsense and didn't mind telling you if she thought you weren't dressed right or if maybe, you shouldn't have the last cookie.
I grew up next door to my grandparents. When I say next door, I mean within a 100 feet or so. The...

See you next week!
The Wranglers are going to take a week of R & R. A few are going to RWA, at least one is doing some active grandparenting, and the rest of us are just being bums.
Have a great week. We'll be back Monday, the 31st!
