The Books We Love
by Margie SenechalYesterday was Book Lovers Day. I'd have to say just about every day is book lovers day for me--be it my own project at the time or somebody else's book. I think these days we all need a means of escape.
Have you ever noticed that when a nation magazine--like People or EW--interviews an author, they generally ask a few similar questions. There's usually one about what book made you a reader and it's sibling, what book made you a writer? And there's always one about your favori...

Is Process Necessary?
One of the things that Liz, Kathi, Cheryl, and I talked about at the library event on Saturday was our writing process. This is kind of a sensitive topic for me, and I think it’s because I feel like I should have a process, but I’m not at all sure I do. I want to be able to tell you that I write x number of hours each day and set word count goals. I want to tell you that the writing always, always comes first, that I pop out of bed at 5:30 each morning and get my 1000 to 1500 words in before...

The grassy berm
One of the cool things about being a writer is that most of the time, you're not walking carefully down the beaten track. You're skipping or often leaping from one grassy berm to the other. Sometimes you're tiptoeing down that crowned spot in the middle where you could very easily fall off. Every now and then, when you're standing in the shade of the maple tree near the corner deciding which way to turn, you spend so much time saying "what if..." that you miss the turn altogether and end up i...

In the Good Old Summer Time
Like Margie said the other day, it's hot. For the most part I love it; when winters last as long as they do in western Canada, you don't complain about a few hot days. (If you do someone will say, "Wait until January!)
So, I thought today I'd just share a few pictures from my garden and the lake, as well as my reading choices for the summer.
Since I took this picture, the corn has grown higher than the fence.
My flowers are doing well in the heat!
We went to the Clear Lake in Riding Mountain Nati...

Back from Conference
Happy Friday everyone! With getting the kiddos ready for the start of the new school year, it seems like eons ago that I was down in steamy, sultry Orlando for the RWA National Conference. But I
promised a recap of my experience, and I wouldn’t dare be derelict in my duties.
While it had seemed like a brilliant idea at the time, my biggest mistake was making this a family vacation/conference trip. I stayed off-site at another resort, so had to worry about timing my travel arrangements and coup...

A Hot Memory
by Margie Senechal August is here and it's hot. Too hot for this pluviophile. 103 yesterday, 106 today. I melt in the sun, not the rain.
But, this type of weather reminds me of my grandmother. She was a complicated woman--and that's a nice way of saying it. She was no-nonsense and didn't mind telling you if she thought you weren't dressed right or if maybe, you shouldn't have the last cookie.
I grew up next door to my grandparents. When I say next door, I mean within a 100 feet or so. The...

My Favorite Part of Conference ~ @AuthorKristina Knight
Last week marked the annual RWA Conference - a week(ish) filled with workshops and networking and mentoring and talking and commiserating. It's a week I've only participated in (in person) three times, although I've stalked the social media hashtags longer! I'm not going to recap the entire conference, there isn't enough room; instead, I'm going to tell you about my favorite part of the conference. It isn't the meeting of writer friends (although I *adore* this part...and shout-out to our own...

Back to Christmas Town
Being part of the Christmas Town anthologies has been one of my favorite things ever. The series started with Melinda Curtis, Anna J. Stewart, and Anna Adams writing
Christmas, Actually
in 2014, which was released by Harlequin. The stories were so successful and the authors had so much fun writing them, they wanted to do it again. Harlequin didn't want to release another volume, but they did let us use the location and the characters from the first one.So, in 2015, twelve of us wrot...
