Bits and Pieces

It’s good to be back at Word Wranglers after our little break. I feel totally refreshed!

I had a busy break and a busy month. Though it wasn’t Thanksgiving here in Canada, my brother and sister-in-law came for a visit last weekend (they live about six hours away) so it kind of felt like Thanksgiving. We invited some cousins over for dinner and had a great time. My brother and sister-in-law left on Sunday, which was a good thing because winter officially arrived here on Monday, making driving t...

My Thanksgiving Quandary

Happy post-Thanksgiving! I have to admit that my holiday was much more low-key than what everyone else seemed to enjoy. I have a small family – scratch that. I have a large family too far away to see often, and the hubby’s side all celebrate with their spouse’s family – so Thanksgiving is just our household.

It’s a fact which causes me a fair amount of angst.
I have wonderful memories of Thanksgiving growing up. We would spend Thanksgiving Eve chopping and gibleting and preparing ingredients&nb...

Best Laid Plans

 by Margie Senechal

This morning I woke up with plans. Plans to blog. Plans to write. Plans to go to the movie with JV. Plans, I tell you.

And Fate laughed at me.

Fate dangled a new shiny object in front of me before I even got out of bed.

"Hey, Margie, maybe you should think about this new project..remember that title you came up with the other day? Well, here's something to go along with it."

Yep. So, instead of getting up straightaway, I brainstormed this new idea. Because the...

A New Tradition

It's kind of become a tradition over the last few Thanksgivings that my mom and my younger brother come up here for a visit. We eat and we laugh and we watch movies and generally have a good time. This year was no different, but we added something (for the second time) that I think is going to become a tradition. Instead of hitting the stores on Black Friday to shop, we hit Amish Country.

There is a two-ish county area here in Ohio that has a lot of Amish people, restaurants, quilt shops, and...

Holiday Fun

I was wandering around the Internet yesterday, something I rarely do. My tolerance for boredom is pretty low, so I don't spend a bunch of time on Facebook or Twitter or clicking links on websites. I have a few blogs I read regularly and I'm checking FB and Twitter much less since I removed them from my phone, which means I'm probably missing some stuff. But hey, lightning hasn't struck for my not being up on the latest trends, so I'm going to assume it's all okay.

In my wandering, I found a fu...

It was the best of times...

Good Monday morning! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We did. The whole weekend, actually, with all the kids and and all grandkids but one, was pretty near perfect. We ate an extraordinary amount and played games of Cards Against Humanity that ran the gamut of insanity, obscenity, and painful realism. Duane doesn't like the game and never plays, but he loves listening to the laughter and the voices as the rest of us surround the big dining room table at our daughter's house.

Sometimes...

An American Thanksgiving

In honor of American Thanksgiving next week, I thought I’d give thanks for things I’m thankful for and that make me happy. Aside from the big things, like family and friends and good health, which I talked about in October when I celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving, I want to give thanks for a few of those little things that make life a joy. Here’s my list, in no particular order.

The Weather – This November has been amazing up here in the great white North, mainly because it’s not white with sno...

Pre-Thanksgiving Soapbox

Happy End-of-the-Week-Before-Thanksgiving-Week! I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to four days off (sorry it you have to work, Margie!!).

I typically don’t do a lot over Thanksgiving. I have no family to get together with over a huge spread of dishes we’ve slaved for hours/days to make. This year, we’re grabbing a full-fledged Thanksgiving meal from Bob Evans and heading to Chicago to spend time with my step-daughter. She’s in college, and appreciates a good meal that someone e...

Thanksgiving Memories

A week from today is Thanksgiving.

The first Thanksgiving I remember was when I was five or six and we celebrated on board my dad's Navy ship in Norfolk, Virginia. I remember climbing down a metal ladder into a long, narrow room with a long table. I'm pretty sure we ate on metal food trays. But, it was Thanksgiving, my dad was home, and we were eating turkey he'd prepared.

A year or two later we were stationed in Iceland and carving a bird with friends gathered around the table. And...
