These are the days @Liz Flaherty

A repeat of my writers' group assignment, with additions. :-)

On Wednesday night, after I wrote and discarded three epilogues, I finally typed “The End” on the book manuscript that is due to the publisher on February 1.
It’s the second-best day in a writer’s life. This writer, anyway. It means I get to wade back into the story and do the first round of fixes on it. I get to go through and make sure the heroine’s eyes that were gray in Chapter One are still gray in Chapter Seventeen. I get to st...

Always Learning

A few weeks ago, one of my publishers, The Wild Rose Press, gave a little primer on comma use during one our regularly scheduled chats. Very informative and helpful, since I often struggle with where to put commas. (Note to self: refer to notes to make sure I’ve got them right in this post.)
This past fall I took Angela James’ self-editing course called “Before you Hit Send”. Unfortunately, I was really busy during this time and I didn’t get to participate as much as I would have liked. But I...

Readin' like a Pro

Image result for love and the corps Looking for something to read?
Just puttin' this out here for consideration ;-)Who am I to break a great theme like the Reading Theme the Word Wranglers have been on this week? I applaud everyone's renewed emphasis on being a reader as well as a writer tis year... and I'm happy to talk about a subject that doesn't reduce me to a snarling rabid animal like I was last week.

I have a confession to make--one I think I have made before, but it bears repeating: I'm a horrible reader. Shame shame sham...

Book Mail

by Margie Senechal

Remember the old days when you looked forward to running out to get the mail because chances were you might get something better than junk ads or paper bills?

I used to stalk the mailbox as I had several pen pals at any given time. And I couldn't wait to get a letter. There was a reason "Mr. Postman" was my favorite song in the 70's.

So, in keeping with the reading theme, I'm going to tell you about a couple of book mail services.

The newest craze--in our house anyway--...

A Reader Goodie

Kristina's reader's journalWe seem to have a bit of an inadvertent theme going on at WordWrangers this week - a reading theme. Nan and Liz are talking about the books/book challenges they're delving into this year...and I, well, I have a new reader goodie - a reader's journal!

Like Liz and Nan I'm doing a reader challenge - actually 2, because the 50 book challenge sounded like fun and, well, why not give it a go? - this year. I decided I didn't only want to read, I wanted to think about what...

50 BOOKS IN 2017--HOW ABOUT YOU? @ Liz Flaherty

As I have mentioned before, probably too often, one of the casualties of being a writer is that I've gone from being an A+, three-books-a-week, all kinds of genres reader to...well, maybe two a month with a few other false starts thrown in there. I don't read enough to read multi-genre--it's mostly auto-buys (Kristan Higgins' new one, On Second Thought, is coming up in a couple of weeks!) or friends' books. In truth, I've become a shaky C- reader.

In reading as in writing, I like the beginning...

The Year of Getting Stuff Done

When I was setting my writing goals for 2016, I designated it as the Year for Getting Stuff Done. I’m not sure exactly how or why it happened, but I finished 2015 with several unfinished, unedited, unsaleable manuscripts languishing on my hard-drive and cluttering my mind. I determined that in the year ahead I was going to finish those books and get them out into the world.

Now that 2016 is over, I have to ask myself: How did I do? Did I finish everything I wanted to finish?

Unfortunately, the...

Ain't no Friend to Me

Welcome to 2017. As the Word Wrangler Friday gal, I like to end everyone’s week on a happy note. Or at least try to turn a frown upside down and look at the positive side of life. Not sure I can pull that off this time.

If you venture at all into social media, you’ve no doubt seen how much people hated 2016 and were looking forward to a clean slate with a new year. Not me… I loved 2016. It was the year I published my first (and second!) book. A HUGE milestone and accomplishment, and not somet...

A Year In a Word

by Margie Senechal

So, in a Wrangler tradition, I reject the idea of resolutions and embrace the word. Ironic that writers choose to live by a word, isn't it?

As this year dawned, I considered my choices and watched as my peers announced theirs.

Author Holly Jacobs--Liz lifted the idea from her, I do believe--chose Hope. "Revolutions are built on Hope," so says Rogue One.

Our own Liz chose "Listen." Yesterday, Kristi shared that she had chosen "Grow". Last year my word was Now and the year...
