Reporting In

Right off, Happy birthday to my mother-in-law, who turns 91 years young today--she still looks fabulous, doesn't she? I should age so well!

It's Day 8 of Nan's great 21-Day Commitment to Writing, and it's been pretty successful so far. I've gotten up every morning, sat down at the computer, and written. No email, no Facebook, no Twitter--no Internet at all for one hour. Leaving my bed and warm snuggle-y Husband is the hardest part actually. ;-)  Not checking Facebook, Twitter, and email...

It's beginning to look a lot like...holiday books

Years ago, we were walking around Nashville, Indiana, one of my favorite places, and went into a sock shop. I'd never seen one before, and Duane could hardly get me out of there. It's been long enough ago I don't remember what I bought, but I'm fairly certain it was a sackful.

A few years later, we were on Church Street in Burlington, Vermont and found our way into another sock shop. I had my first close and personal meeting with wool socks. It was love at first feel and although I'm not alway...

A Canadian Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

No, I haven’t misread the calendar. I’m in Canada and this weekend is Thanksgiving up here. I’m sure my Canadian forefathers chose the October date rather than adopting the American custom of Thanksgiving in November because 1.) harvest comes earlier here, by necessity, and 2.) they wanted to give us a nice long weekend before the snow and cold arrived. Very thoughtful of them, I say. Some years, it can be full-on winter by the end of November.

I’m glad the snow hasn’t arriv...

How Writing has Ruined Me

I’ve finally begun writing again! The good news is that I’ve written quite a few words already. The bad news is that those words were in the form of a critique for a new critique partner.

I enjoy the critique process. I love seeing how another author crafts his/her story. The turns of phrase I would never think of. How they sculpt their characters in unique ways. Like judging a contest, I learn as much from critiquing as I hope the person on the receiving end does. And, knowing me, there’s no...

A Little of This, and That

by Margie Senechal

I am waiting for the cable guy. Today we're upgrading to a security system. Not because we're scared or because we live in a dangerous neighborhood--honestly, I've always joked how someone would break into our house and turn around and leave. "I can get better stuff at my own house."

Until last year, we didn't even own a flat screen. And the one we have now is like 32 inches. But--to lower our cable and internet bill, we have to get a security system. How whacked is tha...

Kristina's New Release - What the Gambler Risks

It's release week, and I'm so excited! This week the final Billionaire Cowboys book hits your cyber shelves; it features gambler Jase and risk-avoider Sabrina. Here's a peek into what's in store:

Best-selling author Kristina Knight's Billionaire Cowboys are back for one final ride with this seductive story of long-simmering feelings and hot Vegas nights.

Twenty-something ice queen Sabrina Smith enjoys the fame and fortune she's found writing self-help books for a largely female audience. Her re...

Writing Chaos

The above photo is a lie because I'm not that chipper little author up there. I'm not writing. I'm in writing chaos right now, which should surprise no one at all who knows me. Let me tell you what I mean.

Writing chaos is that time in a writer's life when you have stories in your head--lots of stories, but none of them seem to be coming together. I've been making crazy notes about Sarah's story--the next book in the Women of Willow Bay series. I've got conversations between Tim and Hallie in...

Fun and fallabilities in Florida

Liz Flaherty & Lynn Flaherty-LewisDuane and I are in Florida, having a good time with family who are also friends. I have been reminded of my own...er...inadequacies several times on this trip.
We usually travel with a spare pillow. It's comfortable for sleeping in the car and one of us usually uses it in the hotel room, too. We did this time. "Do we have everything?" Duane asked the next morning because I was the one who did the last-round check of the room. "Sure do," I said. I'd le...

My Cheating Heart

Copyright All rights reserved by Pull Up A ChairSo I just got my hair cut, and the jig is up. I’ve been found out. My hairdresser knows I’ve been cheating on her.

A little background. I have fine hair. I mean really fine, like baby fine. Not every hairdresser knows how to cut hair like mine, and consequently I’ve had some really bad hair cuts over the years. Like the time the hair around the crown of my head that stood straight up, or the time the sideburns were choppy and uneven. Bad memorie...

Random Joys

I don’t have anything to rant about this week, or any sage wisdom to pass along (assuming I ever do). I’ve actually been a bit of a bobble-head doll these past few weeks, distracted by shiny objects, family schedules, and work projects. As crazy as it’s been, I thought I’d take the opportunity to talk about some random fun stuff.

A joke one of my kiddos told me: What do you get when you put a computer on some cheddar? Mac on Cheese! (Career on SNL, so... but it's so much better than the knock-...
