This tormented cyborg craves vengeance…and her.

Malice, a C Model cyborg, has spent his long lifespan enslaved by the Humanoid Alliance. His cruel manufacturers have hurt him in all the ways a male could be hurt.

His enemy has now added a new weapon to their arsenal—a tiny human medic with soft hands and a delectable scent. She experiments on him multiple times a shift, delivering pain…and frustration.

Once Malice frees himself, he plans to achieve both of his goals, taking Medic Illona captive and ending her research…permanently.

Illona is as much a prisoner as the cyborgs she experiments on. Since her arrival at the Human Alliance’s secret laboratory, she has carefully, stealthily, crafted a plot to free her test subjects. To conceal her covert activities, the medic has been forced to harm beings rather than heal them.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – February 21st

This past week wasn’t my most productive on record. (laughs)But I DID finalize the Medieval Beast Shifters omnibus (published under C.S.Sax) and loaded it to booksellers. This collection of three hot, short(er)stories will be releasing on March 16th.

I appreciate everyone’s patience with this collection. (bighugs) I originally promised it forJanuary and then I got swept into writing Under Strain and it was delayed.

Similar to how I’m now being swept into writing Baring Grudge, the third cyborg romance in the Rebel Cyborgs series (releasing in August). I’ve only written 52 words thus far (LOL Yes. That isn’t much.) but I love where it is going and I’m super excited about writing this story.

This upcoming week will be all about writing the first five chapters in this first draft and enjoying this last week in February, our shortest month.

I hope you are all doing well, staying as safe as you can,reading some great books and cherishing every day. (more hugs) Never forgetthat you are loved. Monday was Family Day in my section of the universe and youare very much part of my reading family.

Cyborg Offspring And Maturity

Cyborgs are designed to physically mature within a solarcycle (a year). This accelerated growth was necessary as the Humanoid Alliance neededtheir manufactured warriors ready to fight as soon as possible. They didn’thave the luxury of a long childhood.

While under the control of the Humanoid Alliance, cyborgsmatured emotionally quickly also.

All the memories, the knowledge of their predecessors were automaticallytransferred to their internal databases. This happens now with the freeborn offspring.Every cyborg with access to transmissions knows their kind’s dark and harshhistory.

But what, I believe, really speeded the Humanoid Alliancemanufactured cyborgs’ emotional maturity was their brutal training. They sawfriends die, were forced to kill their brethren in the training rings. They endedlifespans as soon as they could hold a blade, saw the cruelty of their handlers.That destroyed their innocence, forced them to grow up quickly.

Many of the freeborn offspring haven’t experienced this.Their parents, other cyborgs have protected them as much as they can from theharshness of the universe. Other cyborgs look out for them. Many of them haven’tbeen on missions and any missions they do participate in are likely to be safe,devoid of death and violence.

They have retained their innocence, haven’t been forced togrow up as quickly. Many of them act more like teenagers than adults. They’veheard about bad things happening but haven’t experienced those bad thingsdirectly.

Cadet, however, had a different upbringing. The leader ofthe Rebel Cyborgs has seen violence and danger and death and has experiencedpain. The C Model is fully mature…in all ways, is the equal of the retrievedcyborgs…and a certain nemesis.

The Cyborgs Without Planned Stories

There are five official stories in the Cyborg Rebels series.In my stories, featured cyborgs and their genetic matches find their happy EVERafters. That romantic joy lasts forever.

Some reading buddies are understandably nervous about theother cyborg warriors, however. What happens to Valor? What happens to Rancor?When Under Strain releases (in May), there will be another significant cyborgadded. What will happen to him?

I can’t say at this point. I don’t know what happens pastthe first three scenes in Baring Grudge.

Maybe these cyborgs will find their genetic matches inanother cyborg’s story. Maybe they will find their matches in a future series.Maybe they will be the featured cyborg in one of my December freebie shortstories.

Could bad things happen to them? Stars. I hope not. That deathin Crash And Burn still messes me up. I dream of that character, dream I’mtrying to save him.

Valor is safe. I know that for certain. He’s residing onMercury Minor now and Cadet won’t allow any hostiles to get close to the planetshe considers to be her home.

But I can’t promise bad things won’t happen to other cyborgsbecause I don’t know and I wouldn’t ever want to promise something I couldn’tdeliver.

There ARE many other fates, happy, wonderful fates, however.Those are MUCH more likely to happen. The odds are definitely in their favor.(grins)

Throwback Thursday – Choosing Chuckles

Choosing Chuckles in the first official story in the CyborgSpace Exploration series (I always believe Seeking Vector was the first unofficialstory but it resides officially in the Cyborg Sizzle series). It features Chuckles,a grumpy and damaged cyborg warrior, and Bettina, aka Bait, a colorful humanfemale who is seeking to trap him.

Choosing Chuckles resides in the grumpy one is secretlysweet for the sunshine one trope. Chuckles grumbles and snarls at everyone yethe stealthily takes care of the beings he loves. And he is super protective.

Bettina is a strong female who is tired of being strong allthe time. She wants someone to take care of her, to pamper her and protect her.When she talks to Chuckles over the communication lines, she knows in her hearthe’s that male.

Chuckles and Bettina are magical together. We explore an excitingnew planet inhabited by highly intelligent monkey-like beings. There are somelaughs and tears and heart-melting moments.

A Cynical Cyborg Meets A Bad, Bad Female.

Keeping Skills Honed

I take, on average, one writing craft workshop a month.

This surprises some newer writers. I’ve been published for wellover a decade, have been writing since I could hold a pencil, have hit the USAToday Bestseller List a few times.

Why would I continue to take craft courses?

I do this because skills can always be improved and I findit fun to add to the tools in my writer toolbox. I think readers deserve thebest d@mn stories I can produce. Some stories can only be told using certainskills, skills I might not yet have.

And these courses are food for my muse. It excites me tohear how other writers tackles issues, how they think differently than I do. Itdraws me out of my own head, allows me to see problems from a different angle.

If the workshop host offers a critique (Angela Knight oftendoes this with the workshops she gives), I always submit a sample of the storyI’m currently working on. Getting a new perspective on it is often priceless. Thefeedback strengthens the entire story.

I whole-heartedly recommend writers continue to takeworkshops. Every writer is different. The workshops might not benefit you asthey benefit me. But it is worth a try.

Exploring Outside The Cyborg Controlled Sector

In Cyborg Space Exploration, thecrew of the Reckless (led by Vector) was charged with exploring the cyborg-controlledsector, the stretch of space that surrounds the Homeland and is under theirprotection. The cyborgs decide (mostly) who enters the sector.

In Rebel Cyborgs, we will, of course, visit Mercury Minor. This is the Rebel Cyborgs’ home base. The planet is located inside the cyborg-controlled sector.

But we will also explore planetsoutside the sector. Cadet’s primary mission is to retrieve cyborgs who weren’table to escape the Humanoid Alliance (and others) on their own and transportthem to the cyborg-controlled sector, where they will hopefully be safe (orsafer).

I’m super excited about this! I LOVEexploring new planets.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – February 15th

Last week was super productive for me.

I completed the first round revisions for Under Strain, the secondRebel Cyborgs story (releasing in May). My Awesome Editor gave the story two thumbsup. There IS work still to do on it. There is always work to do. (grins) But we(my editor and I) will definitely hit that May deadline and I think you willreally love this story.

I also finished the Griffin Shifter Short (er) Story for theMedieval Beast Shifters omnibus. This should release at the end of March underC.S. Sax, my quirky short story writing pen name.

I will be getting that collection together this week(sending it to the Dear Wonderful Hubby, my awesome volunteer formatter).

AND I will be starting on the third Rebel Cyborgs story,Baring Grudge. Grudge likes to blow up things so I suspect his story will beexplosive. (grins) Yeah, that was a terrible pun, wasn’t it?
