Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – March 14th

I’m still working on the first draft of Baring Grudge(releasing in August). I love Grudge. I love his female. I love his and herrelationship with the Cyborg Retrieval Team. I can’t wait to write Cadet’sstory. This series is so fraggin’ exciting to me.

Medieval Beast Shifters, published under C.S. Sax, isreleasing on Tuesday. This is a collection of three short (er) stories. Each onefeatures a different beast shifter – a unicorn, a phoenix and a griffin – andthese steamy stories are all connected.

I’ll also continue to write Baring Grudge and…well…that’sabout it on the writing front. (grins) A writer’s life isn’t very exciting,especially when we’re deep in a story.

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I WILL be celebrating St.Patrick’s Day this year but in a quieter manner. Our section of the universe isin extreme lockdown so we will be staying at home, wearing our green and I’lllikely be cranking up The Unicorn by The Irish Rovers, a song my Grandpa wouldoften play for his gazillion grandkids on St. Patrick’s Day.

Visiting With Past Characters

One of the (many) things I love about writing in the same world is, from time to time, we can visit with characters we’ve met in previous stories. This will happen often in the Rebel Cyborgs series.

The entire cyborg retrieval team made some appearances inthe Cyborg Space Exploration series. Although at the time, we didn’t realizewho they were or what their names were.

Ghost and Lethe, one of my favorite couples, make a brief appearancein Containing Malice. Their story was Ghost Of A Machine in the Cyborg Sizzleseries. This couple will be referred to often due to their relationship withand influence on Cadet.

Power, the arrogant E Model hero of the fifth and final RebelCyborgs story, has made appearances throughout both previous series. His storywill definitely feature some past couples.

Baring Grudge, which I’m writing at the moment, will includesome characters from Chasing Mayhem. This third story in the Rebel Cyborgsseries will be explosive. (grins)

Do you need to read these other stories to enjoy RebelCyborgs? No, not at all. The stories in Rebel Cyborgs can be read on their own.But I’m hoping these cameos will make some series reading buddies smile.

Containing Malice

This tormented cyborg craves vengeance…and her.

Malice, a C Model cyborg, has spent his long lifespan enslaved by the Humanoid Alliance. His cruel manufacturers have hurt him in all the ways a male could be hurt.

His enemy has now added a new weapon to their arsenal—a tiny human medic with soft hands and a delectable scent. She experiments on him multiple times a shift, delivering pain…and frustration.

He wants her. He also seeks retribution.

Once Malice frees himself, he plans to achieve both of his goals, taking Medic Illona captive and ending her research…permanently.

Illona is as much a prisoner as the cyborgs she experiments on. Since her arrival at the Human Alliance’s secret laboratory, she has carefully, stealthily, crafted a plot to free her test subjects. To conceal her covert activities, the medic has been forced to harm beings rather than heal them.

The being she has damaged the most is also the cyborg she fiercely desires— Malice, a huge, gray-skinned, blue-eyed C Model with massive hands and a voice deeper than space. He hates her, has good reason to do so, and, when he’s freed, there’s a high probability he’ll kill her.

Illona will take that risk to ensure he survives.

Redeeming Strain

The second story in the Rebel Cyborgs series is Under Strain(releasing in May). As soon as I ‘met’ Strain on page, when he tried to attack theheroine of Containing Malice, I was intrigued. I wanted to know why he was sohostile, why he hates humans with that intensity.

Strain is extremely damaged. He makes Malice look like he’s well adjusted. (smiles) He, of all the cyborgs, is the warrior Cadet believes is most like Ghost, another severely damage cyborg.

Cadet and Grudge and the rest of the cyborg retrieval team, however, believe in him. They see something special, something worthy in Strain.

There is a huge gap between being worthy of a team and beingable to love and be loved. It will take a unique female to embrace Strain.

Kamyelle, the heroine of Under Strain, is certainly unique.(grins)

Under Strain

A damaged cyborg warrior is huntedby a peace-loving human female.

Strain is severely malfunctioning.The D Model cyborg was the sole survivor after a horrific decision was made byhis cruel manufacturers. He hates all humans, and when he attacks one who is underhis cyborg leader’s protection, he is reprimanded, stripped of his weapons, andtold to watch and not actively participate in the next mission.

That mission takes place on a smallremote planet. Its lush terrain should only be inhabited by the cyborgs they weresent to rescue, but Strain senses another presence on the surface. She iswatching him, tracking him, hunting him.

A fully operational cyborg would endher lifespan.

Strain wants to claim her. Forever.

Kamyelle is the only one left ofher kind. Warriors have killed the other nonviolent human inhabitants of herplanet. She survived…barely…by hiding in the trees, observing her enemies, and coveringherself with lifeform scan-concealing mud.

When a handsome, gray-skinned,brilliant-blue-eyed male arrives, surrounded by weapon-carrying warriors, she hasto save him. Warriors harm and they kill. That is what they do.

She won’t allow them to hurtStrain.

Throwback Thursday – Doc’s Orders

Doc’s Orders is a nod to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Doc, the cyborg hero, has two very distinct sides to him—the cool, unemotional, machine-like medic and the emotional beast warrior. There is no moderation for him. He is either one or the other.

Allinen, the heroine, is enthralled by his dual nature. She has given up on finding her fated mate when she meets Doc, a mysterious stranger from space.

Note: Doc’s Orders features a planet-wide pandemic. I wrotethis romance long before our own Earth-based pandemic happened and, while it isbased on science, it IS an alien world pandemic.

Doc’s Orders

She wants both sides of her cyborg—the medic AND the beast.

A fully functional cyborg is balanced. His machine half and his organic half work together to produce the perfect warrior.

Doc isn’t fully functional.

The G Model operates at the two extremes. When his machine is in complete control, he’s the logic-driven medic, saving lifespans. Once his organics take charge, he becomes the savage beast…and beings die.

Both sides of Doc want to be the first to claim his female.

Allinen is one of the few beings in her small settlement who wasn’t born with a fated mate. Determined to belong somewhere, she has crafted a plan to leave the planet.

That plan doesn’t involve a huge stormy-eyed male who alternates between cool seduction and out-of-control ravishment. Doc isn’t her fated mate. Allinen knows that. But his dual nature and forbidden embraces tempt her to forget forever and indulge in more immediate delights.

Neither side of Doc views their relationship as being temporary. Her conflicted cyborg is prepared to battle her family, her planet and death itself to keep her.

Sexy Times With Shifters

In my stories, love interests love EVERYTHING about the otherbeing (or beings). Joan, the heroine of Releasing Rage, loves Rage’s human sideand his machine side. Dita, the heroine of Dark Thoughts, loves Kralj’scontrolled side and his monster mode.

Taja, one of the heroines in Medieval Dragon Shifters (releasedunder C.S. Sax), loves Grun’s human side and his dragon side. The dragon hasneeds. She happily satisfies them.

Fun times in beast mode doesn’t happen in all of my shifterstories (it doesn’t happen in any of the stories in Medieval Beast Shifters)but I do believe readers who enjoy steamy romances about shifters should expectscenes like that.

To ignore the animal is to ignore a huge piece of theshifter. And they ARE shifters. They are magical beings, a different species,similar to how humanoid aliens are different species. They wouldn’t appreciatebeing viewed as animals. (grins) I wouldn’t suggest anyone call them that.

” There were weeks where I couldn’t write. I was too worried, too stressed. I couldn’t concentrate. The Dear Wonderful Hubby’s youngest brother is a COVID Long Hauler, has been one since March 2020, and that is taking much of our focus.

The writing, once I have some mental bandwidth left, is an escape. I can venture into a world I can semi-control, a story where I know everything will eventually turn out okay. That is such a gift.”

Inspiration From Space

I have been LOVIN’ the recent influx of images from Mars andother ventures into space. The photos have been such a source of inspirationfor me, for other SciFi Romance writers and for artists. The artwork that isbeing created is out of this world!

Often it is easier for me to write when I can bettervisualize the scenes. Artwork and photos allow me to do that. They sometimes alsopush me in a different direction, a direction I might not go without theimages.

In addition to that, I’ve been using some of the artwork asbackdrops for book promo material (I pay indirectly for use of the images). It getsme excited about writing and I hope it will excite you about reading thestories.

It is such a thrilling time for space lovers!

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – March 7th

It is the first week of March. Spring is finally arriving inmy corner of the universe. (knock on wood) And words on Baring Grudge, theAugust release, are flowing.

I love Grudge. I love his kick a$$ yet so very caringfemale. I eagerly open the manuscript every day, excited to see what they’ll door say next. This story will be EXPLOSIVE. Grudge LOVES blowing things up andhe gets to do what he loves in his story.

The next-to-final version of Under Strain has been loaded tobooksellers. I still have to add the excerpt to Baring Grudge and buy linksonce I receive the cover.

This upcoming week will be more of the same. Fresh words onBaring Grudge will be written. I will likely re-read Under Strain, find a typoand while correcting that typo, I will add 3 more, much to the horror of my AwesomeEditor. (grins) That’s how I seem to work.
