Under Strain, Cyborgs And Reprimands

While the cyborgs were under Humanoid Alliance control, they were reprimanded harshly for any sort of wrongdoing, real or imagined. They were often deemed to be malfunctioning and suffered the most painful death possible, being sliced apart while conscious, salvaged for parts while feeling everything.

The Humanoid Alliance also tortured the cyborgs in all the ways a warrior could be tortured.

No cyborg would voluntarily do that to one of their brethren.

Which pushes cyborg leaders to be creative when reprimanding warriors.

Power punished Death and his female in Defying Death by restricting them to the Homeland. Taking away the freedom they fought so hard to obtain is quite severe.

Cadet punishes Strain in Under Strain by stripping him of his weapons and forcing him to watch upcoming battles, not participate in them. This is a very effective reprimand because most cyborgs, including Strain, LOVE to fight. They love their weapons. They’ll regret not having that fun with their brethren.

Strain, however, discovers another kind of fun…with his female. (grins)

Kamyelle is the only one left ofher kind. Warriors have killed the other nonviolent human inhabitants of herplanet. She survived…barely…by hiding in the trees, observing her enemies, and coveringherself with lifeform scan-concealing mud.

When a handsome, gray-skinned,brilliant-blue-eyed male arrives, surrounded by weapon-carrying warriors, she hasto save him. Warriors harm and they kill. That is what they do.

Hot Cross Buns And My Awesome Mom

These are NOT my Awesome Mom’s hot cross buns but they kind of resemble them. This stock photo was taken by and indirectly purchased from jackmac34

When I was growing up, we didn’t have much. Some days, we didn’t eat (yes, here in Canada). We didn’t have outdoor plumbing (we used an outhouse). We made our own fun.

Some family members are still living like this today.

But every year, on Good Friday, my Awesome Mom would make hot cross buns for everyone and I mean everyone. (grins) She made them for the entire village. Other folks would drop by. It didn’t matter what people believed, their religion or their views on the universe. It was a celebration for everyone, a way my Awesome Mom, having not much at all, would give back to the world.

We, of course, didn’t have the fancy ingredients. There was no candied fruit. These hot cross buns had raisins and were topped with the simplest of icings (mostly icing sugar and straight-from-the-cow milk).

But stars, those buns were good. We would stuff our little faces.

And we would realize how very lucky we were.

We might have been poor but folks came from all over to eat my Mom’s hot cross buns, raving about how good they were. That was something to be proud of, something to be grateful for.

I’m thinking of her today, thinking how lucky I am to know such a generous, giving woman. I will definitely be calling her later, once the hot cross bun baking is done.

Throwback Thursday – Knowing Zip

Today is April Fool’s Day. I’m not a big fan of tricks or pranks (I have a few trust issues – grins) but this day is still very special to me.

When I was a teenager, I babysat two little boys. I loved those boys. We would spend all summer and one day at the very least a week together, running through fields, talking about science and the world, their issues and joys.

The youngest was born on April 1st. He would introduce himself as “I’m T and I’m a fool.” And then he’d laugh. LOL That never failed to make me smile.

I’m thinking of them today and yes, I’m smiling as I do that.

I think Zip, the hero of my free short story Knowing Zip, would really enjoy April Fool’s Day. He loved the idea of making his female’s fantasies come true by abducting her. I believe he’d add some more fun to their lifespans by ‘tricking’ her in other sexy ways. (grins)

Cyborgs, Spring And Babies

It is spring in my corner of the universe, a season I always associate with babies – baby plants, baby animals, babies of all kinds. There is a robin nest outside my window and I’m hoping I’ll see some babies soon.

Cyborgs become as excited about babies.

Before Rage met Joan in Releasing Rage, cyborgs didn’t think they could reproduce on their own. They were manufactured in massive vats by the Humanoid Alliance scientists. The breeding programs were unsuccessful.

Rage and Joan proved baby cyborgs WERE possible between a warrior and the being (or, in rare cases, beings) he is genetically compatible with.

Babies are still rare, however. Very few (as a percentage of all cyborgs) warriors have found their compatible beings and reproduction once they find him/her happens sporadically.

This is likely a good thing. Cyborgs and their genetic matches have the ability to live forever. They also don’t age, which means they can potentially make babies for the same duration – for all eternity.

Quick reproduction would result in the universe being overrun with cyborgs. I’d be okay with that but other beings might object.

Cyborg couples (or more) can take their time, get to know each other, practice breeding (grins) before expanding their families. Every offspring is cherished, treasured and protected by all the warriors… (looks at Choice) whether they want that often excessive safeguarding or not.

Female Cyborgs And The Rebel Cyborg Series

I’ve received quite a few awesome queries from reading buddies about the other female cyborgs, cyborgs like Sky from Releasing Rage, the first cyborg romance I published.

I haven’t forgotten about them! (grins) I promise! I also haven’t forgotten about many of the other cyborg warriors I’ve mentioned in previous stories. They merely haven’t found their genetic matches yet. It IS a huge universe.

I’m trying not to share spoilers. This is challenging for me. I want to tell you EVERYTHING I know. If I do that outside of their own stories, the cyborgs will stop talking to me. We don’t want that to happen.

I WILL share that, knowing Sky, she will likely make a brief appearance in the Rebel Cyborg series. Cadet IS a new female cyborg. Sky will be curious about Cadet and Cadet must be curious about Sky.

Will they get along? Well…THAT I don’t know. Not yet.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – March 28th

I finished the first draft of Baring Grudge, the third story in the Rebel Cyborgs series (releasing in August), this week! Woot! It is a hot mess, as all my first drafts are, but I love Grudge and his female and the other characters we meet in this story and I love how action-packed and explosive (literally) this story is. (grins) I think you’ll love it also.

This upcoming week and the following one will be focused on the second and third drafts. I hope to send Baring Grudge to my Awesome Editor by end of day April 10th. There will likely be three more rounds of editing before this story is finalized.

I feel like I’ve completed this first draft super early but I haven’t. Not really. I just loaded the final draft of Under Strain this week and it releases on May 11th (I like to load final drafts at booksellers at least a month before release day because…well…there have been issues around shorter timeframes in the past).

It is Spring in my corner of the universe. Yesterday, I sat on the front steps and watched the baby ladybugs explore their surroundings. They were adorable and so very tiny.

Hawks And Squirrels

A gorgeous red-tailed hawk has made our neighborhood his home. Yesterday, he was circling in the beautiful blue sky, looking for prey.

The Mafia Squirrels were frantic. They scurried to hide from the hawk and the cover they sought was inside our house. They were knocking on the windows and on the back deck’s sliding doors, chattering loudly for us to let them in. Their eyes were wide with fear and I wanted to open the doors… except I knew it would be almost impossible to get the squirrels out of the house once the danger had passed.

Thankfully, all the Mafia Squirrels in our backyard survived.

But it made me think about how they viewed us, the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I, as allies in that instant. Normally, the Mafia Squirrels view us as encroachers onto turf they believe belongs to them. Yesterday, we were seen as a means of potential assistance.

Malice, the hero in Containing Malice, is in a similar situation. He views Illona, the human heroine, as his enemy but she might, just might become his greatest ally.

Under Strain And Peace-Seeking Beings

Kamyelle, the heroine of Under Strain, the second Rebel Cyborgs story (releasing in May), is the last of a long line of peace-seeking humans. Her ancestors came to Rohini 9 in search of a place where they could live in harmony with other beings, with other creatures, with the land.

They found that place…for a while. Rohini 9 hosted predators, velociraptor-like theropods, but the humans learned how to coexist with them with very little conflict…similar to how indigenous people in North America lived with predators like wolves or bear. There was a mutual respect.

Then the Humanoid Alliance arrived on Rohini 9. They brought cyborgs and warships and killing machines with them. And they didn’t want to share the planet…with anyone or anything.

As you can imagine, it didn’t go well for Kamyelle and her kind.
