I’ve received some awesome messages from reading buddiesasking me when the rest of the Rebel Cyborgs series will be available forpre-order.

First, THANK YOU. The excitement you have for this series feedsmy enthusiasm about it and that is such a blast for any writer. A pre-order is alsoan act of trust. You trust that I will give you a great story. And I wouldnever knowingly betray that trust.

Which is why I don’t yet have the other stories available forpre-order.

Under Strain can be pre-ordered. I’ve completed the first(of three or more) rounds of revisions on this second story (releasing in May).My Awesome Editor is excited about this story, which gives me confidence you’llenjoy it also.

I’m hopefully starting Baring Grudge next week (the firstscene is in my head right now and it is AWESOME). It isn’t anywhere near thestage where I can say it is worthy of your pre-order. I suspect it will be agreat story but I don’t like to list stories at booksellers until I have, atthe very least, written the first draft. That should happen by the end ofMarch.

This tormented cyborg craves vengeance…and her.

Malice, a C Model cyborg, has spent his long lifespan enslaved by the Humanoid Alliance. His cruel manufacturers have hurt him in all the ways a male could be hurt.

His enemy has now added a new weapon to their arsenal—a tiny human medic with soft hands and a delectable scent. She experiments on him multiple times a shift, delivering pain…and frustration.

He wants her. He also seeks retribution.

Once Malice frees himself, he plans to achieve both of his goals, taking Medic Illona captive and ending her research…permanently.

Illona is as much a prisoner as the cyborgs she experiments on. Since her arrival at the Human Alliance’s secret laboratory, she has carefully, stealthily, crafted a plot to free her test subjects. To conceal her covert activities, the medic has been forced to harm beings rather than heal them.

Throwback Thursday – Dark Thoughts

Valentine’s Day is on Sunday. I don’t know why but, when buddiesask me which of my stories they should read on Valentine’s Day, I alwaysmention Dark Thoughts first.

Yes, Kralj, the enemy-eating, all powerful, all knowing ruler,is top of mind for this love it or hate it celebration. (laughs) I think it isbecause I associate red with Valentine’s Day and there is a LOT of red in thisstory. Blood is spilled. Crimson sprays are everywhere.

Kralj’s relationship with Dita, his tiny yet fierce human assassin, is so very special. They have their own views of romance (it often involves ending lifespans) and they are magical as a couple.

Can love redeem a monster?

The Refuge is home to some of the most violent beings in the universe. Kralj, its leader, reigns over the remote outpost with terrifying ease, ruthlessly squashing any rumors of rebellion, killing anyone who breaks his rules. Primitive, deadly, powerful, he’s a monster, scarred both on his face and his soul. He has never met a being he couldn’t control.

Until he meets her.

Dita has one mission—to kill the three targets claiming sanctuary within the Refuge. Or so she claims. For the first time in his long lifespan, Kralj isn’t certain of another being’s intentions. The tiny assassin is immune to his powers, her thoughts unreadable. He can’t predict her movements, can’t control her, can’t stop wanting her.

Containing Malice And Conflict From Within

The primary conflict in the Rebel Cyborgs series is betweenthe Rebel Cyborgs and the Cyborg Council or, more specifically, between Cadetand Power, two extremely strong-willed beings.

Cadet feels their top priority should be rescuing thecyborgs who were left behind during the mass rebellion. She has both public andprivate reasons for viewing this as their number one mission.

Power is dealing with an overly crowded Homeland and millions of bored warriors (which is NEVER a good situation – grins). He has other priorities. He also has private (heart-twisting) reasons for not wanting to send crews of freed warriors to rescue their still captured and controlled brethren.

Power, although the arrogant a$$ acts otherwise, isn’t a perfect being or a perfect leader. He SHOULD have some push back on his decisions. There SHOULD be some conflict between him and others. That’s good and healthy and needed.

It does create tension within the cyborg forces, however.

There are other sources of conflict. The Humanoid Alliance, although currently in shambles, is still out there. They remain a threat to the cyborgs and they are plotting not-so-good things, bringing warriors back from the dead and working on equally horrifying projects.

But, in the Rebel Cyborgs series, the big conflict is cyborg-centric.

It will be explosive. (grins)

Containing Malice And Reader Feedback

I read all the messages I receive from reading buddies. Somewriters have assistants. I don’t have one. I look at everything myself.

Unless the message is a death threat or something similar, Itry to respond to every message.

If you don’t receive a message from me, it is likely because an email service, either mine or yours, in their great wisdom (

I LOVE questions and other feedback about stories. If youhave a question or concern, there is a good chance other reading buddies havethe same question or concern. Sometimes I’ll answer that question or addressthat concern on this blog, in addition to responding to you directly. That sharingbenefits everyone.

I also often tweak my writing a bit to decrease confusion infuture stories.

In Containing Malice, for example, some reading buddies wereunsettled that Illona didn’t have a conversation with Malice about her HumanoidAlliance-caused illness, about their experiments on her. They’re right. That communicationshould have happened. In the future, I’ll ensure couples (or more) haveconversations about important things like that.

Under Strain

A reading buddy reminded me that I haven’t yet shared all of the bookseller links for Under Strain, the second story in the Rebel Cyborgs series.

Under Strain

A damaged cyborg warrior is hunted by a peace-loving human female.

Strain is severely malfunctioning. The D Model cyborg was the sole survivor of a horrific decision made by his cruel manufacturers. He hates all humans and when he attacks one placed under his cyborg leader’s protection, he is reprimanded, stripped of his weapons, told to watch and not actively participate in the next mission.

That mission takes him to a small remote planet. Its lush terrain should only be inhabited by the cyborgs they were sent to rescue. Strain senses another presence on the surface. She is watching him, tracking him, hunting him.

A fully operational cyborg would end her lifespan.

Strain wants to capture, kiss, claim her.

Kamyelle is the only one left of her kind. Warriors have killed the other nonviolent human inhabitants of her planet. She survived…barely by hiding in the trees, observing her enemies, and covering herself with lifeform scan-concealing mud.

When a handsome, gray-skinned, brilliant blue-eyed male arrives, surrounded by weapon-carrying warriors, she knows she has to save him. Warriors harm and they kill. That is what they do.

She won’t allow them to hurt Strain.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – February 7th

Containing Malice released this week! Woot! I’m so glad manyreading buddies are enjoying this story. I feel for Malice. He is hurting badlyat the beginning of his story. I wanted to give him a big hug. And Illona…myheart went out to her. They both deserve love so very much.

I also managed to complete revisions for the phoenix shifter hero story this week. This is the second story of three in the Medieval Beast Shifters collection (releasing likely at the end of March under C.S. Sax).

Under Strain, the second story in the Rebel Cyborgs series (releasing in May), has returned from my Awesome Editor. She loves it! Woot! There is much to work on. There always is. (sheepish grin). But the core story is strong and I hope to finish the first round of revisions by end of day tomorrow and send it back to her.

Then I’ll focus on the third and final story in the Medieval Beast Shifters collection. This one features a griffin shifter hero. (grins) All these stories are so much fun!

I hope you all are doing well and are finding some terrific stories to read. (group hugs) My To Be Read virtual pile would reach the ceiling if it were in print book format. I LOVE it like that. It makes me happy knowing I have plenty of books to read (I DO read them, merely not as quickly as I buy new books).

Containing Malice And Writing The Next Story

Some reading buddies have asked me why I’m revising the short(er)stories for a C.S. collection (Medieval Beasts, likely releasing at the end ofMarch) and not diving right into the next story in the Rebel Cyborgs series.

Under Strain, Book 2 in the series, has already been written.It is now with my Awesome Editor. She’s likely looking at it as I’m typing thisand plans to return it to me in a week or so.

All the stories in the Rebel Cyborgs series are standalones. They can be read on their own. But they also build. What happened in Containing Malice will change what happens in Under Strain. What happens in Under Strain will change what happens in Baring Grudge.

It is ideal that I wait until my Awesome Editor has given meher insights on Under Strain before I start Baring Grudge. Rewriting to incorporatemajor changes usually takes longer for me than waiting and, for me, it oftenweakens the story. I want to give you the best stories I can craft.

So I’m waiting.

My brain also needs a vacation between cyborg stories. Thecyborg stories take SO much out of me creatively and emotionally. I LOVE thatbut I also need a break.

The short stories give me that break. They are short (grins)and light and they are set in a completely different world in a completelydifferent niche of romance.

Other writers have their own processes. We all do what worksfor us and this schedule is working for me at the moment.

I’m excited about Under Strain. I think you’ll really enjoy thisstory. And I’m stoked about the scenes I’ve envisioned for Baring Grudge. I thinkyou’ll be excited about that story also.

Throwback Thursday – Chasing Mayhem

Mayhem is one of the wildest cyborgs I have ever ‘met’. He embraces chaos, loves to stir the pot. I think he and Truth would be great friends. They both have that same type of excitingly unstable energy around them.

In the cyborg retrieval team, in the Rebel Cyborgs series, the most similar warrior is Grudge. That cyborg LOVES to blow things up. Which is something I think Mayhem would appreciate.

Mayhem’s female, Imee, being a bounty hunter of sorts, would likely love Grudge’s unique skills also. She has trained herself to take down other beings. Sometimes that requires blowing things (and beings) up.

Mayhem and Imee are a fun couple. If you haven’t yet read Chasing Mayhem, I think you’ll really enjoy it.
