You Might Be On An Illegal Book Downloading Site if…
I’ve seen my beloved works on pirate sites and it’s heartbreaking! Please help authors by keeping it legal
“How do I know if I’m on a legitimate book site?”
You’d be surprised the number of times I get asked that question. As in at least five times a day. I get asked lots of questions every day as it pertains to books and audiobooks. So, I decided to put together this handy guide for those individuals who are ‘uncertain’ if they’re on a legitimate book site or not.
Q: How can I tell if I’m on a book pirating site?
A: You might be on an illegal ebook downloading site (AKA book pirating site) if all the books are free. That is your first give away. No legitimate book vendor has 100% free books. The only exception is your local library’s website. Other than that, if every book is FREE then you’re not in the right place. You’re in the wrong place. As in ‘you’re on an…

Stuck With Your Story? Why You Keep Hitting Walls and Dead Ends in Your Writing.
I honestly can write only when inspired, even to edit! That’s when it works best, not at some pre-determined time.
by Lauren Sapala
For the longest time I had major problems doing revisions on my writing. It seemed so easy for everyone else. Why was it so hard for me? Of course, I also had trouble writing. I hardly ever experienced that state of “effortless flow” everyone talked about, in which the words just magically spewed out of me down onto the page. For years—a lot of years—I felt like something was wrong with me. I felt like I was a failure as a writer.
Then, I discovered something.

Again this week I’m posting from one of my first books: For the Heart of Phillip. First written in 2006 and redone into it’s current format in 2010. We pick up after Phillip is teased for bolting from a bee.
Blurb: Get ready for a wild, sexy ride! Follow along 13 arduous, confusing, wonderful years of Phillip’s life as he tries to decide on his love for two men. They are best friends and together all the time. On a family vacation when he’s 16, Phillip meets Robert and the two form a fledgling relationship. Hence begins a push and pull, back and forth for years to come as the two fight over the man they love, Phillip. Both men will stop at nothing to keep him. Who will win the heart of Phillip? Come along for this ride and find out!

Dani
turned around and straightened her ankle-length bright pink dress. She pursed
her matching painted lips and rolled her sky blue eyes. Her ornamental
fingernails reached for a tendril of her curly brown hair to twirl, a clear
sign she was agitated. This wasn’t the first time they’d had this argument.
Giving him a glare, she pitched her hair back into place and put her hands on
her low hips. She walked over and tilted her head up to look her son in the
eye. Dani was a petite 5’5” to her son’s towering height of 6’0”.
With
a maternal once-over of her son, Dani saw how just upset he was and understood
his emotional state. She brushed his chubby, pale cheek with her fingers.
“All
right, you get off this time, but the next time it’s a beautiful day, you are
getting some natural Vitamin D, understand? You can’t keep hiding like this.
The doctor said-”
Phillip
interrupted. “Dr. Melville said that I’m bipolar and an isolationist! How can I
fight what I am, Mom?”
Dani
scowled and pointed a painted nail at him. “Don’t cut me off like that, young
man. You’re still only 12 years old! You may be the size of a man, but you’re
far from grown. Have you been taking your Prozac?”

International Women’s Day!
Today we celebrate International Women’s Day. Women have made many great strides in the world and we are going to keep going!
I visited with mother today and enjoyed it. She is elderly, but in pretty good health yet. She and I haven’t always seen eye-to-eye, but as the only daughter, tension was bound to happen at some point.
It made me reflect on how different our lives have been. She came from a large family, worked until at almost 40 yrs old, she met my dad, got married, quit work, and had two children. She was a housewife and constant companion for my brother and I. There wasn’t a single missed school or social event for her!
In later years, she did work (after I went to high school). It was more of her social club. She’s never met a stranger she didn’t like…lol. That lasted a few years until she could ‘officially’ retire at 60 yrs old. She’s a proud grandmama now and loves it.
For me…my path was one of working starting at 18, then married at 26, and tossed into a very unstable situation where one or both of us were usually out of work. Then the health issues came, and with it, the obligatory financial issues.
At 42, my world changed completely when my husband outed himself and the marriage ended a year later. I moved away and into a rickety town with no jobs, but a great new husband. The financial woes are off and on, but not nearly what they were with hubby #1.
I never will or have had children, except with four paws and tails.

Six weeks out…
Hi everyone!
I’ve been squeezing time in to write on my blog lately, and social media has taken a nosedive…because I’ve been playing nurse to my hubby who had knee surgery six weeks ago.
It’s hard to believe it’s only been six weeks…more like three months or longer! The first week was crazy and flew by and I was so exhausted that I just fell into bed.
Now…he is doing better, but not fully recovered just yet. I still do some chores for him and offer to do more just because I know his pain level isn’t where it should be.

Don’t spit in my drink!
An EXCERPT from ICE FAIRY by S. L. Danielson
So many people thought that they were an item, but
nothing could be further from the truth. They were the best of pals, on and off
the ice, but that was all. Sam’s heart lay along a different destiny, one which
his parents did not know about, nor his coach. It was hell not being able to
tell them he was gay; not even in a sport where a few of the other boys were as
well, but he dared not speak about it. He’d found solace in Amber being the only
one to know, and it was enough for him. At least for now. A gentle whack was
felt on his arm and he turned to see Amber grinning at him. “Buy you a soda if
you want. I don’t have an apple for the teacher.”
He rolled his eyes. “Oh, no thanks. I’m good. I’ve got
my water bottle over there. Too much soda will keep me up too late and give me
cavities. Can’t have that.”
“Oh, heavens no,” she agreed and after a quick
push-off on her blade, she was gone.
Sam let out a deep sigh. It’d been quite the January
afternoon with Amber there. Just the two of them… and the few dozen other
skaters who fought their way around the oval like they were on a cold
treadmill. The oval was never enough for him; he had to do more.
A sudden wave of boisterous voices broke his silent
reverie as he nearly slipped from the prep for a scratch spin. Oh
shit, he thought as he saw what they were wearing. It was the hockey
players… what he called the ‘demons’ of the ice. They left ruts so deep he’d
requested the Zamboni nearly scrap the surface down to the base. He dug his toe
pick in, fists balled, and snatched his water bottle from the top of the wall
before the rude, crude boys could make their way over to it and knock it over,
or maybe spit in it.
You
won’t touch my bottle, oh hell no. Why did they have to
share the ice with these assholes? Why couldn’t they have an entire rink
devoted the athleticism and beauty of figure skating and not the boorish, blood
sport show that hockey was. What was the whole point of it anyway? To see how
many fist fights one could get into in a single game? Sam shuddered at the
thought. He’d seen these games in action and the teeth flying out of their
mouths. No thanks.
As the boys passed by, a few called out to him as he
stood by the wall and drank his water; he retreated the closer they came. “Takin’
a break, Sammy boy? I’m sure that’s such hard work, huh?” One of the boys
started harassing Sam. He looked over his shoulder at his chuckling brethren.
Sam didn’t respond but continued drinking. He wished
they’d just go away and leave him alone.
“Hey, where’s your hottie, Sammy?” another asked,
obviously referring to Amber. He wanted to reply, but why give them what they
wanted by responding?
After most of the line passed, carrying their enormous
overstuffed bags and spitting randomly into the seating area, Sam glanced up
and saw someone he kinda knew, unfortunately. It was that big kid, Brett
Z…something. He could never remember last names of the people who got on his
nerves. His parents had worked with him to remember names, but he still had a
tough time with it. Like now.
As the tall, built blond passed by, Sam caught his eye briefly – that was a mistake. Brett stiffened and shot him a look back. “What the fuck are you lookin’ at, ice fairy boy? You just go about your little twirls and shit. This is a man’s sport.” He held up his bag and slapped it, fairly snarling like a grizzly bear afterwards.

Paths to Publishing 4 | Vanity Publishing – by Iola Goulton…
So true! I’ve never paid to publish, ever!
Chris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

on Christian Editing:
Over the last three weeks we’ve looked attrade publishing, publishing through asmall press, andself-publishing.
Any of those can be good options for authors, depending on your genre, writing, and aspirations.
Today we’re looking at a path to publishing that is rarely a good option for the author: vanity publishing.
That’s because vanity publishing goes against publishing’s most important maxim:
Money flows from the publisher to the author
