Kill Shot cover wins Ariana Award
Congratulations to Jenifer Ranieri for winning an Ariana Award in the Suspense/Thriller category at the EPIC Awards. Jenifer is a great cover artist! She's done most of my covers at Desert Breeze Publishing and not once has she disappointed me. I particularly love the ones she has done for my Wounded Heroes Series. Great job, and a well-deserved honor, Jenifer!
Former combat medic Kory Wagner has been in four war zones, served three tours in Iraq, survived countless firefights, RPG’s, IED’s and even a helicopter crash. Now she’s home and out of the Army for good and someone is trying to kill her in her own backyard. Just as disturbing is the handsome sheriff who’s on the case. Sheriff Sean Harding doesn’t quite know what to think of the decorated veteran that managed to outsmart an entire search party. What bothers him more is the body of a PI, whom she hired to find her sister's killer, was found dead in a building Kory owns. And Kory isn’t being very cooperative with helping him find the answers as to why someone would kill her sister and want her dead. Will he be able to keep her alive along enough to discover the truth?
When the skeletal remains of three young women are discovered on the vacation estate of a U.S. Senator, the local sheriff enlists the help of Special Agent Gabe Landry and a local forensic sketch artist to help him solve the murders. As a profiler, Gabe knows his skills are useless until they discover the identity of the victims. That’s where the beautiful and talented Mackayla Kensington comes in. Mackayla is all too familiar with the heartache of not knowing the fate of a loved one. The brutal murder of her own daughter is the driving force behind her determination to bring closure to families missing loved ones. Using her artistry skills, Mackayla works frantically to put faces to the skulls so that their identities can be revealed and the killer can be caught. When the killer realizes how good she is, it appears she may be the next to die.
Drew Presley's wife was murdered while he was serving his country in Iraq. Giving up a career he loved, he's returned to Dauphine Island to care for his son and try to make a new life for them. The unsolved murder of his wife continues to plague him. The islanders are very protective of their own and he fears a killer is among them. The more he searches for answers though the more dangerous it becomes. Just as troublesome is his attraction to his son's second-grade teacher.Trudy Walsh was Nora Presley's best friend so the bond she has with Nora's motherless child is only normal. What troubles Trudy is the growing feelings she has for Reed's father. How can she be so attractive to one man when Jack Diamond is all she's ever thought about?
When Drew begins to suspect Jack of his wife's murder, sparks begin to fly. Trudy knows Jack could never kill anyone but how can she convince Drew of that? What secrets lie in Gianni's Cove, and what do they have to do with Nora's murder?

P. J. O'Dwyer & The Fallon Sisters Trilogy + Giveaway!
GIVEAWAY ALERT:Leave a comment be entered for a chance to win your choice of either an autographed hardcover or an “Authorgraphed” Kindle edition of Defiant or Relentless. Drawing will take place Sunday, March 10th.
When love turns deadly, the beloved play dead.
Western Maryland farm girl Kate Fallon wanted more than horse pastures. Now a trial lawyer in the affluent Annapolis law arena and married to multi-millionaire Jack Reynolds, also the U. S. Attorney of Maryland, she’s got it all—at least everyone thinks so.
Behind closed doors, Jack is as cruel as he is intelligent, as controlling as he is handsome. When his tirades turn physical, Kate must fight for her life. But her efforts to leave him will take her down a rabbit hole to secrets she doesn’t fully understand, and that Jack will kill to suppress.
Two years later, Kate’s keeping secrets of her own. Living as Charlie Robertson, a take-no-crap general contractor, she’s secure most days knowing her nightmare is right where she left him—two thousand miles due east under FBI scrutiny. Wielding a nail gun instead of a briefcase suits her, as does the small mining town of Creede, Colorado. With its scenic views and open spaces, life is simple and so are her rules: Lock all doors, check for signs she’s been followed, and don’t get involved romantically ever again.
Unfortunately, retired Navy SEAL and tourist Nick Foster didn’t get the memo. Mysterious, sexy, and powerfully attracted to Charlie, Nick typically likes things easy. Only “easy” isn’t in Charlie’s vocabulary, and neither is trust. Worst part is, she’s right not to trust him, and yet he can’t help falling for her. But love won’t save either one of them if she discovers his true identity or doesn’t give him what he came for. His boss won’t tolerate failure.
EXCERPT:
Seconds, Kate had seconds. She took down the hall, her options limited, and then her eyes locked onto her purse. Davey’s manila envelope had emerged from the bottom of her handbag, its corner now visible and catching her eye when she rounded the banister of the steps.
She needed to get to it.
“Kate, get your ass back here,” he bellowed down the hall, his chair clattering to the floor.
Her detour took five seconds—precious time if she wanted to escape him. The teeth on the zipper of her handbag bit into her palm. The throw rug at the bottom of the steps slid, and she fell to her knees. On all fours, she climbed the steps and froze when his hand snagged her foot. She kicked hard, and his hand fell away. She pushed up off the tread and continued the climb to the second level. If he caught her, he’d go straight for her purse. The fact she snagged it right in front of him made it a bull’s-eye. The envelope had sunk back into her purse, but once he dumped it, the envelope and its contents would be his focal point. And then she would be his next target.
She slammed the thick pine door of the master bedroom, hit the switch to the overhead light, and then reached up with quivering fingers to turn the antique-style key sitting in the lock. Her heart fluttered like wings taking flight, except there was nowhere to fly, nowhere to hide. The room seemed to twirl, and all she could do was stare.
The pounding of his fists brought her out of her stupor. “Open this door, or I’ll level it. Do you hear me, Kate?”
She had to stall. “Not until you calm down. You’re scaring me. I didn’t mean to spill the bottle.”
He laughed derisively. “Like hell, you were aiming for my head.”
Kate winced. Damn.
She scanned the dresser. No good. The mattress . . . he’d look there. Closet—forget it. She eyed the frame. It sat neglected against the back wall under the window sill, the watercolor of Thomas Point lighthouse. She had picked it up in the art gallery on Main the other day and had every intention of hanging it. But she hadn’t gotten around to it. She laid it down on the bed and sighed with relief. The back hadn’t been enclosed in brown paper.
She tried to clear her mind. Ignoring his verbal tirade and the blows against the door, she reached inside her purse, searching for her nail file. Her fingers became agitated—there was so much crap in her purse. Heart pounding, she grabbed the envelope and tossed the bag across the room. She dug her fingernail under the first tong and gritted her teeth when the metal slipped under her nail. A drop of dark blood appeared in the underside curve of her French manicure. She sucked her finger and ignored the bitter taste. If she left a fresh trail of blood on the frame, he’d become suspicious. She continued to struggle with every stubborn piece of metal until she could clear the cardboard back. She positioned the envelope in one corner, replaced the cardboard, and pressed flat the tongs.
How long had he been in the house? An hour, possibly? Enough time to thoroughly search it. She turned the frame around, moved past her bed, and placed the picture back in its exact location beneath the window. A loud crack brought her attention around. The entire doorframe tore from the wall. The door itself hung like a piece of split skin, still attached, but barely.
She swallowed hard as he charged her.
Headstrong horse rescue director Bren Ryan has been a red-headed streak of trouble for more than one man in Clear Spring. She’s grown up needling local “kill buyer” Wes Connelly, and since the sheriff ruled her husband’s sudden death an accident, Bren’s been investigating things herself. She’s certain Tom was murdered, and she’s hell-bent on cornering his killer the only way she knows how—by tempting him to do it again. And she’s the bait.
Rafe Langston came to Maryland looking for land and a fresh start. Or so he says. The sexy cowboy isn’t generous with details, but Bren couldn’t care less—until he buys half her farm at auction and moves into her childhood home. Suddenly, the last man she should befriend becomes her only ally in solving her husband’s murder.
Soon their cozy stakeouts sizzle with unexpected desire neither one can ignore, threatening his mysterious plans and her promise to never fall in love again—especially with a handsome stranger whose secrets could shatter what family she has left.
DEFIANT and RELENTLESS supports horse rescues around the world. With every purchase, a donation will be sent on your behalf to help with their mission of rescue, rehabilitation and education. Together we can end horse slaughter for good.

Legally Wed by Patty Froese
The Inspiration Behind Legally Wed
Legally Wed was inspired by friends.
I put it out there on my Facebook fanpage, asking what my readers wanted to see me write. The feedback was unanimous--these women wanted to see a story about marriage, a story that started after the "I do" and dealt with real married people.
And that was the beginning of this novel, which follows two couples: one that was supposed to be divorced, and one that was supposed to be perfect.
Marriage is hard work--there's no way around it. Falling in love is the easy part, but staying in love and growing closer and closer over the years involves careful decisions. We don't always make the right decisions, and sometimes one side of that marriage is more committed than the other. Life is never ideal and picture perfect simply doesn't exist.
So what happens when your husband leaves you for the brassy secretary? And what happens when a marriage you thought you'd put behind you ends up being not-so-over after all?
I'm thankful for the women who communicate with me while I write. Not only do they keep me company, but they inspire some great writing!
Come by and check out my latest novel, Legally Wed. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Blurb:
When Rich McConaughey comes back to town, divorce papers in hand, he’s in for more than he bargained for. Lisa Young, the woman he was married to for six months, hasn’t changed a bit. His mother has though… she’s gone from matronly to meow, and his father has taken off with the secretary. Does anything last anymore?
Lisa Young feels chained to the hardware store her family has run for generations. How can she tell her father that she hates the family business? When Rich walks back into her store asking her to finalize a divorce she thought was behind her, she thinks that the answer is to sign on the dotted line and move on. Except, Rich isn’t making it so easy… and God has other plans.
For better or for worse, when you’re legally wed, things can get complicated.
Excerpt:
"What do you mean we're still married?" She hurried to match his pace."And for crying out loud, slow down."
He slowed his steps to a leisurely stroll and glanced down at her. She only came up to his shoulder, and she resented having to tip her chin to look him in the face. Young Hardware stood on Main Street, one of the first stores built on this street before the town sprung up around a crossroads with a gas station, a diner and a church to serve the farms in that area. Now it joined many businesses flanking Main Street, and she couldn't help but feel like every single of one of them watched.
"We used my Uncle Neil to finalize the divorce, remember?" Rich asked.
"Yes, that sounds right." As she hurried Ricky past Whirlwind Realty, the business next door to the hardware store, she felt a rush of relief that Jane, the head realtor for the place, stood with her back to them. One less person to give her the third degree later.
"Well, as it turns out, Uncle Neil was having trouble with alcohol at the time and..."
"And?"
"And never filed it. It sort of slipped through the cracks."
"Sort of?" What on earth are you talking about?" Lisa heard her voice rising in pitch. "He never filed the papers?"
"Looks that way."
"And how did you figure this out?"
"When the IRS audited me. My accountant thought I'd had my identity stolen. The IRS thought I was fraudulent."
"Ouch." For the first time, a pang of pity replaced irritation for the man. She stopped at the street corner and looked across the intersection at the coffee shop. A couple of people visible in the window ordered their drinks. She glanced back at Rich. "So you came out here to get me to sign?"
He squinted in the bright sunlight and pressed his lips together. Finally, he gave a slow shrug. "That was the plan."
She turned her attention to the envelope in her hands. It had been a long time since she'd held divorce papers, and they still felt ominous and weighty. She nodded.
"Okay. Well, I'll take a look at these then."
"Look, I'm sorry about this." Rich put his hands into his pockets and looked down at his shoes. He raised his gaze to meet hers. "I know this is a surprise."
"You could say that."
He gave her one of those lopsided smiles of his and for just a moment she could see the boy with the spontaneous grin and cajoling eyes she'd fallen in love with all those years ago. Why could Ricky always speed up her heart, even when every logical bone in her body knew he wasn't in her best interest?
"Well." She cleared her throat. "Thank you. I'll see you around, I'm sure."
"You bet."
Lisa raised her hand in an awkward wave and turned back towards the hardware store.
Married. Her body moved like wet clay, and when she fumbled about inside for her feelings she discovered -- nothing. Not yet. Later. Time enough for a meltdown in privacy.
Patty's Bio:
Patty Froese lives in central Canada where the winters are long and cold--giving her excellent excuse to stay in and write without guilt. She's a tea drinker, a novel writer, an adoring wife and mom, and she's pretty sure she's a British person born in a shivering, Canadian body. She loves rain, royalty, pretty knick knacks and three square meals a day. No dieting here!
If you'd like to find her online, come by her blog: http://pattyfroese.com. She's also on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pattyfroese, and whenever someone gives her a new like or follows her blog, she sighs in delight.
Legally Wed is her ninth novel to be released.

Patty's Bio:Patty Froese lives in central Canada where the winters are long and cold--giving her excellent excuse to stay in and write without guilt.

Secrets of the Red Box blog tour
Choosing the location for the book -When selecting a location for my book, Secrets of the Red Box, I wanted it to be a place I knew, a place I was familiar with. That ended up being Omaha, Nebraska. Now you might think, why Omaha? I actually wondered that myself, not that I have anything against Omaha - I lived there for nearly three years. What I liked about Omaha was that it represented a lifestyle reflected in the characters my protagonist, Bonnie, finds so unlike her own upbringing. One of the things about living in the heartland of America is how genuine the people are. I also knew I could add authentic touches about the weather, from the thick humidity of summer to the blizzard potential of winter. I could describe the landscape and know every detail.
The book takes place from 1945 to 1950, so even though I remembered a lot about Omaha, I wasn't around during that time period (despite how old I feel some mornings). I use the internet for a tremendous amount of my research, and am a stickler for historical detail. I came across the most fabulous item I think I've ever found - someone had scanned the entire Checker Cab Directory to Omaha, dated 1950. It listed all the addresses of every major office building, hospitals, schools, parks, and business you could imagine, not to mention apartment buildings and residential streets! So, not only could I validate what existed where during the time period, much of it still existed when I lived there. The guide also influenced where my characters went: Comento's Steak House, Chez Paree, Hotel Fontenelle, Brandies Department Store, and the Omaha Stork Club. This was such a valuable resource that I wish I could find a Checker Cab directory for every city!
One of my main characters, Glen, needed to visit the widow of his friend who was killed during the war. I chose Helena, Montana for that location. I lived in Helena and loved it there! I was able to mention Last Chance Gulch and a few other old landmarks of the area like Mt. Helena.
Although I don't always select a place I've lived to set my stories, this one was particularly fun for me. I know that anyone who's ever lived in Omaha or Helena will recognize the authenticity of the location. And for those who've never even visited Omaha, I hope they'll appreciate the flavor of the setting.
Blurb:Bonnie has secrets to keep - secrets with the potential to destroy lives, including her own. Running from her destructive and pain filled past, she recreates herself, believing she has escaped the damning evidence hidden in the red box. When her former life is revealed by a cruel twist of fate, Bonnie faces losing everything, including Glen, the only man she’s ever loved. But is Bonnie the woman he thinks she is? Set against the backdrop of the 1940s, Secrets of the Red Box is filled with intrigue and suspense - sure to keep you guessing to the very end!

Excerpt:
A strand of her hair came loose from her comb and fell over her face. Glen casually reached over and tucked the curling lock behind her ear, as if he’d done so a hundred times. She touched the back of her ear where he’d placed the hair and smiled softly at him. Why had that felt so natural? She should have recoiled or pushed his hand away. That’s what she should have done—but she didn’t.
Bonnie paused beside an ancient oak, the afternoon sun elongating its shadow over the sidewalk and spilling into the street. “Maybe we should go back.” She was afraid of him, afraid of how easy it was to talk to him, how comfortable she suddenly was with him. She wanted to go back before she was forced to start lying to him.
Author Vickie HallVickie is a native of Utah, but growing up, lived in the states of Colorado, Idaho, Montana, and Nebraska.
