First Crack

One of the side-benefit things to my job is that, on occasion, I’m asked to read an upcoming book in the hopes I’ll like it enough to give it a blurb that can be used on the book jacket.

I have three books on my desk right now that I’ve received over the past two weeks for that purpose. I can’t share who the author is/what the book is called, in the event I’m not excited enough about it to offer a blurb, but I can say I’m excited to read all three.

What are you reading right now?

A New Endeavor

achristmasmourningsmallerLate Friday afternoon, my first-ever E-short story launched. I wrote it as a sort of gap filler for fans of my Amish Mystery series who often tell me a year is too long between books.

Once the story was done, I was happy with the result, but boy oh boy was it tough to write. I guess, after 21 published full length books (and a few more waiting in the can), I’ve trained myself in terms of pacing. Trying to tell a complete story (albeit a small one) in say, 62 pages instead of 300 isn’t easy.

Ready To Go

I had my annual writers’ retreat over the weekend and it was fabulous. As always.

There’s something about getting together with creative people that’s exhilarating. We swap ideas and experiences with everything from marketing, to social media, to our usual work day, etc. I always come away learning new things. But my favorite part of all is our brainstorming sessions. It doesn’t matter who we’re brainstorming for, just listening to everyone build off each other is fascinating to me.IMG_1492

Calendar Reading Bits

The calendar says November, yet the thermometer is saying September. But as long as I can still wear boots, I’m good with that.

Still, I think our Bits should stick with the calendar, don’t you?

1) Favorite Thanksgiving side dish?

2) The side dish you tend to skip?

3) When will you put up your first Christmas decoration?

4) What do you do after Thanksgiving dinner is all done? Watch TV? Sleep? Play games? What?

Before I Head Out…

I’m taking the day off. The weather promises to be good (unusual for this time of year), so I’m heading into the city to take advantage of it.

In the meantime, I have a few fun questions for you today.

1) What’s your biggest buying weakness (mine is boots)?

2) At a professional sporting event, what food item must you always buy (mine is a pretzel)?

3) What would you love to do this winter (I’d like to go snow tubing)?
