In the Batter's Box

From Jenna in Tennessee:

Q: What are you working on now?

A: Hi Jenna!  I just finished the mental plotting portion of book # 7 in the Southern Sewing Circle Series. This book will release in late 2012 so it will be my first official holiday book for the ladies of Sweet Briar.  Now that I know what's happening in the story, I should be writing…but as always seems to be the case, a host of other "life issues" have come up in the past 24 hours to step all over that "should."

Namely, the break d...

Misty-Eyed Pride

When your children are little, the most simple things–like sitting and waving–are worthy of photos, journal entries, and a host of other documentation methods.

When they go off to school for the first time, news of their accomplishments tends to move to the refrigerator for all who pass by to notice and praise.

Milestone after milestone, new step after new step, we watch our offspring make their way in the world, proudly holding their hands when we can and beaming from the sidelines when we...

Confessions of a Reader

If you're an avid reader, there's little doubt you have a few skeletons in your closet. But, since we're all friends here, it's okay to confess a few of your "reading issues" to all of us.

Ready?

1) Do you peek at the ending of a book prematurely? Why or why not?

2) Will you read a book until the end whether you like it or not? Or do you quit and walk away?

3) If wandering through a bookstore, what will make you buy a book? The cover? The first paragraph? The book jacket blurb? Or do you close y...

What Do You Do?

First, if you missed yesterday's post, scroll down and give it a read (it's a fine example of some mighty special people).

Second, let's have some fun with today's Bits & Pieces, shall we?

1) You come across $ 10 in your recently dusted off winter coat. What do you do with it?

2) You've got two hours all to yourself. What do you do with it?

3) Someone hands you a hundred bucks and says you have to spend it on someone else, who do you pick and what do you do/buy?

Unexpected Blessings

Today's Writing Thursday question comes from Ann V in Texas.

Q: What's your favorite part of being an author?

A: I'll be honest, the answer to this question has changed for me over the past few years. When I was first published, my favorite part was simply seeing my book on a bookstore or library shelf. It had been all I'd dreamed about since I was a little girl and having it actually happen was simply the best. I still love that part, I really do, but with each new book that releases, I find ...

Full Salvage Mode

The unofficial end of summer is just days away and for the first time in a very long time, I can't say that I'm sad to see it go. Don't get me wrong, there were some good parts of summer this year, but there were some trying parts, too.

The excessive heat wave that hit the New York area (and, frankly, the rest of the country) in mid July was a tough time for me thanks to my M.S. That week and a half took my energy and yanked it right out of me at a time I was facing a pretty important...

Casting Time!

Thanks to Irene and her visit to my neighborhood during the wee hours of Sunday morning, the chance of being without power today is very high as you can see. So, with that in mind, I'm asking all of you for some help with today's blog…

If you've read all of the books in the Southern Sewing Circle series thus far, who would you cast as Tori Sinclair on the movie  screen?  How about Rose or Leona? Margaret Louise or  Debbie? Dixie or Melissa?  You don't have to have ideas for all of them, I'm...

FB-ing

I'm not a big television watcher nor do I play video games. For me, they're just time wasters and I don't really like to waste time.

That said, I'm very definately a home body. Sure, I love to travel–and by love, I mean LOVE–but when push comes to shove, I like to be home, making memories with the people I hold most dear. I like playing games, I like cuddling, I like taking walks, I like looking through photographs, I like learning new things about the people around me.

But the one time waster ...

The Storm

As Hurricane Irene sets her sights on the east coast this weekend, I find myself taking a trip down memory lane–to when I lived literally one mile from where Hurricane Hugo made landfall in 1989.

I was just out of college and working my first real job. I had my very own apartment (with no furniture to speak of, but that's beside the point). And I had some dear friends who lived on the barrier island where the storm did make landfall.

I'll never forget the feel of the air as I carried my...
