The Wonderful World of Beginnings

Every once in a while, I like to do a little writing challenge here on the blog and today is one of those days.

In fact, we've done one similar to this in the past only this time I'm tweaking just a bit.

Here's the set up:

Character A:  Red head boy about 8 years old. Never been outside him small mid-western town until now…

Character B:   45 year old woman. Traveled extensively with work, rarely for pleasure. Never married–too busy.

Possible settings:  City street, small park, beach, carnival...

A Ticket To The Past

Over the next two-and-a-half weeks, the whole brood will be back home. And, since it's summer, that will surely mean a few movie nights on the horizon. One (or several) of those nights will include some of the classics from the 80's for the teenagers in the house…

The idea for such a night came after introducing the teenagers to Breakfast Club a few months ago. They enjoyed it so much, I know it's been watched a few extra times since that first viewing.

While a classic, and one of my favorites ...

A Little of This, A Little of That

**If you read my lead-up on Friday to our weekly Bits & Pieces, you know I was craving (and I mean CRAVING) a hamburger with a vanilla milk shake on the side.

Soooo, as the saying goes, all good things come to those who wait…

Boy, was that good. And the shake…there wasn't a single solitary drop left in either the original glass or the little silver back-up thingy. Mmmm…

**I just got word that Book # 6 in the Southern Sewing Circle series has had a slight name change. Now, the book will be...

Summer Fun

I've always been a fan of summer. I like the freedom that seems to come with longer days and nicer weather. And the last few days have served to underscore my love for this time of year…

I went hiking along Kent Falls in Kent, CT with My Special Guy. The view was spectacular and the hike great for the old legs!

I went to the New York Aquarium and got to see the sweetest little sea otter. He just swam around on his little back looking like his life was the greatest life ever! And when the...

FOOD!

I don't know if it's the fact that it's summer, or I'm just in an odd mood, but I have a HUGE craving for a really good hamburger joint. You know, the kind that serves milkshakes (with those little silver cups they leave along with your glass) too.

Perhaps that's why this Bits & Pieces is about food…

1) What's the last thing you cooked and/or baked?

2) What's something you're hankering to cook and/or bake?

3) Any strong cravings at the moment now that I brought up a hamburger joint with...

Goings on

I have some fun writing-related things to share with all of you…

**The wonderful folks at Greenwood Public Library in Greenwood, Indiana have put together a trailer for the Southern Sewing Circle mystery series.  If you'd like to check it out, CLICK HERE.

**Do you know why the numbers 8,9, and 10 (as well as 17, 18, and 19) are some of my favorites this week? Well, I'll tell you. :)   The  first three–8,9, and 10–are how many books are coming your way in the Southern Sewing Circle Series!!! ...

A Shot of Hope

From the first moment I saw this bridge (on the "December" page of a calendar while working in Borders three years ago), it's held an appeal I'm not sure I can explain. In fact, it was seeing that very picture, that convinced me to spend my 40th birthday in New York City. While there, I saw Hairspray, went to the top of the Empire State Building at midnight, and bought my very first framed photograph of the bridge.

Three years later, the image of that bridge still calls to me. I know that I...

The Muse Gets A Bone

Well, the 2011 RWA national conference is officially over. Which means it's back to work for me. I've got a deadline looming (for Amish mystery #1), an enormous To-Be-Read pile to address, and the next book in the line up (sewing circle book # 7) to finish plotting.

As a writer though, my mind is also churning on a story I'm dying to write–a story I can't even think about writing for at least another four months.

Fortunately, though, I've found a way (or, rather, been shown a way) I can give a...

Be Back Soon…

I'm at a conference in the city this week, which means I'm taking some time off from blogging. Instead, when I'm not attending workshops and publisher/agent events, I'll be catching up with my dear friend, Lynn C., and hopefully getting a ton of writing done on the Amish series.

I'll be back next week and hope you will, too!
