In The Beginning, There Were Index Cards…

a crudely drawn map…

research books…

and notes, lots and lots of notes.

Yep, it's that time again. Time to start yet another book. Only this time, in addition to a new book, it's also a new series. Which means starting from scratch with two of the biggest players in any series–characters and setting.

For those of you who might have missed the news along the way, I'll be penning an Amish Cozy Mystery series for Berkley (this, in addition to my Southern Sewing Circle books). I'm excited about the s...

A Self Inflicted Hug?

I envy people with a skill or talent that lends itself to uplifting "me" time. It's as if, by the very hobby they love, they can escape from the real world into a place where contentment and fulfillment rules…something everyone can benefit from in life.

My youngest has one in her violin, though, at this age, I'm not sure she understands the gift she's been given should she opt to continue it into adulthood. How wonderful it would be to snap open your violin case after a tough day at work and s...

An Alternate Ending

I have a fun question for all of you book lovers out there today…

If you could rewrite the ending of ANY book, what book would it be and how would you end it?

Branding

Sorry for the late entry today.

I've been thinking a lot about "branding" lately. Which, of course, got my curiosity pinging of the walls.

Certain companies have been exceptional at branding. All State is one…how could you not trust the pitch man they have talking into the camera? Or the little swoop under the arches to signify a smile and happy times at McDonald's? Yet, for all those successful efforts, there are probably thousands of companies we don't know/don't remember because their...

Name Your Shows

Today's Bits & Pieces is about your tv-watching–past and present.

Ready?

1) What were four of your favorite TV shows as a kid (kid, meaning up to age 12 or so)?

2) Was there a TV show you liked to act out? And if so, which character did you like to pretend to be?

3) Did you have a lunch box or poster or some other object that depicted one of your favorite shows? If so, which show?

4) Do you own the DVD set of any of your old time favorite shows? If so, which one (s)?

What's Happening

Since I'm not actually writing this week, I figured I'd use today's Writing Thursday to catch you up on some things…

*Large print rights are in the works for DEADLY NOTIONS and this fall's DANGEROUS ALTERATIONS! Woo-hoo!

*Wal-Mart is promoting several cozy mystery titles in nearly a thousand of their stores nationwide. PINNED FOR MURDER–the third book in my Southern Sewing Circle Series–was one of the fifteen or so titles chosen for this big endcap display promotion. Super big Woo-Hoo!!!

*T...

Cool Places and Clever Spots

Since I still have about six days remaining in my catch-up-on-everything-I-failed-to-do-during-deadline week, I've branched out past the mailings I needed to get caught up on and moved into organizing.

Yup, organizing.

My drawers. My office. My bedroom. Everything.

Suddenly, where piles had started to accumulate, I can now see tops of furniture (hoorah!). Where stacks of printed manuscripts once were, I can see the floor. It's a beautiful thing, really. And it reminds me of just how much I...

What'cha Reading?

I'm off to the bookstore tomorrow to find something new to read. I think I already know what I'm going to buy, but I'm still open to suggestions.

So, what are you reading at the moment? Would you recommend it?

Kickin' Off Summer

Memorial Day Weekend is just hours away and I'm already thinking about summer. Which, of course, means summer-themed questions. :)

1) Favorite summer-time food?

2) Favorite outdoor game?

3) Favorite thing to do in the summer?

4) Plans for the weekend?
