A Hint of Christmas…in May

Oooh… The cover of LET IT SEW (Christmas in Sweet Briar) is here!

Isn’t it gorgeous? Once again, my cover artist, the uber talented Mary Ann Lasher, has outdone herself in capturing so many clues (like the sketchbook–with theactual sketch referenced)from the story in her illustration. Love it!!!!

Ho, Ho, Ho…LET IT SEW will be out November 6th and is now available for pre-order!

A Pinch-Me Kind of Day

Yesterday was one of those pinch-me kind of days. You know, the ones you dream about and then, when they happen, you wish you could freeze them in time.

I rode the train into the city and then took the subway down to Penguin Publishing’s main office. I got my security badgeto go up to the correct floor and then, when I got there, my editor brought me to a conference room where they had a huge carton of books (very early copies of HEARSE AND BUGGY–the first in my new Amish series written as Lau...

Reading, Reading, Reading

I’ve been reading a lot lately. Only it’s been my own stuff–Amish # 2, copy edits for LET IT SEW, line edits for STORYBOOK DAD, e-book prep for the old Jenkins & Burns series.

So I’m hankering an opportunity to read something else. Fortunately for me, my good friend Lynn C. (who posts in the comments from time to time and has done a few guest blogs along the way) has her first romance coming out next month–Bull Riders Brother–and she’s asked me for a blurb. While I’m thrilled to do so, I’m equ...

Sleepover or Giggle-over?

Three of the four kids have off today as the teachers in the district are “grading state tests.” I put that in quotes because I’m thinking it has more to do with the fact they only used one snow day this year.

Anyway, the day off made for a perfect friend sleepover night for Dear Daughter # 2 (complete with giggles galore). Right now, the two of them are decorating monkey cupcakes. Aren’t they coming out adorable???

But the sleepover got me thinking about sleepovers I had as a kid. So, you gue...

Bullet Pointing From Start To Finish

One of the questions I hear most often from readers when I’m giving a talk is whether I outline and if I know everything that’s going to happen before I start to write. This is always an easy question for me to answer because no, I don’t outline (not in the traditional way) and while I know the beginning and the end in terms of the mystery, the rest of the book comes on its own.

That said, I do have a general plot–which sewing circle member will be involved, who the crime affects, who the murd...

Mark It With A “B”

At 11:15 last night, I pressed “send” on my latest manuscript. This one was for the second book in my upcoming Amish Mysteries (HEARSE AND BUGGY–#1–debuts June 5th). Everything about this book was different for me, including the fact that it was done a week ahead of schedule. But because of my travel to Bethesda this past weekend for Malice, the in-depth edit I always do prior to turning in a new book had me going until 11:14.

Anyway, now that that’s off my plate, I have a few days to a) work...

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jig

I’m back!

Technically, I got back from Malice Domestic on Sunday evening, but yesterday was a special day in my house and so I held off on computer work until today.

I’d like to say I have tons of pictures to post from Malice, but I don’t. I’m great about taking my camera to events and places, but horrible about using it once I’m there (this seems to be a relatively new trend with me but annoying nonetheless). Suffice it to say though, it was a fun few days.

I got to see my dear friend, Lynn D.,...

Differences

Recently, a friend posted on Facebook that she’d just made reservations to go on a whale watching tour with her husband and kids. Immediately, I was clicking the link she shared to check it out for myself (I would love to see a whale up close in the wild). But even as I did, I realized how funny it is that what seems like fun to some, holds absolutely no appeal to others.

With that in mind, I figured I’d do a Bits & Pieces that reveals what we all consider to be fun (if you’ve done any of the...

A Glimpse

Since I’m getting ready to head out for the Malice Domestic Mystery conference today, I thought maybe I should give everyone a feel for what this event is all about.

Every year, cozy and traditionalmystery fans (cozy = no gore) gather in the D.C. area to celebrate the genre. Fans come from all over the country to sit in on panel discussions with their favorite authors. There are book signings, meet and greets, the annual Agatha Awards banquet, etc. As a writer there are also industry events (a...

Quick and Sweet

On the go today as I get ready for the big Malice Domestic Mystery Conference in Maryland this weekend. Will post pictures of the loot I’m bringing tomorrow! In the meantime, check out yesterday’s post–I’m still in need of ideas!
