Happenings

Quick update on the book-related stuff going on at the moment.

**REAP WHAT YOU SEW (#6) comes out in just three weeks (April 3rd)!!!  I just got my first looksee copy over the weekend and it looks great!

**My current wip (work in progress) is Amish Mysteries # 2. I'm 25 percent into it and so far so good. In fact, writing this story is a treat!

**In addition to the wip, I work through a few relatively minor edits on a romance I have coming out in October–STORYBOOK DAD. Ths story has extra...

Favorites

Today's Bits & Pieces is all about favorites.

1) Favorite song when you just feel like being happy?

2) Favorite outdoor activity?

3) Favorite treat?

4) Favorite dinner ever?

5) Favorite breakfast ever?

6) Favorite stuffed creature when you were little? (what did you name it?)

Don't Just Say It

I've been to a fair amount of signings and other book related events over the past seven years. And there's always one statement I hear a lot.

"I've always wanted to write a book."

Honestly, if I had a dollar for every person who has said that along the way, I'd be doing pretty well. But, see, here's the thing. If you want to write a book, write one. Because like everything else in life, talk is cheap. Or, to go the route of the trite phrase: actions speak louder than words.

So how do writers...

Phone A Friend

Moving can be difficult regardless of age. When you're young, switching schools can be beastly (though, my girls handled the change amazingly well–a fact, I'm sure, that had everything to do with it being a move they wanted). When you're older (like me) it's lots of things–change in routine, change in familiarity, distance from friends.

Social network sites make it easier these days to "keep in touch" with people all across the country–and even the world. But, for me, there are certain...

Hail To the Pig

Today's blog, at least for me, relates back to books (as in the ones I read, not write).

You see, I got to thinking about my childhood piggy bank the other day and how I'd save all my quarters for whatever was the golden egg at the time. My quarters were saved to buy everything from Honey Hill Bunch dolls (remember those?) to Jordache Jeans, and cherry Jolly Ranch flat sticks to a new piece of furniture for my prized dollhouse. Because, back then, those were the things that made me happy, I...

Out With The Old

Thinking about website designs today as I begin the process of transforming my "Laura Bradford" site. By the time I'm done, it will have a new look/feel, new content, new set-up, new stuff. The tricky part is knowing just which way to go. I want to reflect the feel of the Amish mysteries I'll be launching under that name in June, but I also want it to be more universal to best coincide with any and all future projects.

Figuring out how to do all that, though, is a tall order.

In the meantime...

We'll Call It An Early Screening Of Sorts

This week, I'm departing from the "normal" Bits & Pieces format on all of you and giving you a few Bits & Pieces about me (as it pertains to my latest "baby," anyway) and then following it up with a really cool contest.

Here we go…

As most of you know, June 5th marks the debut of the first book in my brand new Amish Mysteries–HEARSE AND BUGGY. I'm beside myself with excitement over this series for several reasons…

*It's got my professional name (Laura Bradford) on the cover, rather than a...

If You Dare

I feel like tossing out a writing prompt/exercise today–one that's been sparked by my desire for spring juxtaposed against the winter that doesn't seem to want to quite let go (despite not being all that bad this year).

Write the opening paragraph of a story, setting the scene in regards to whatever season you choose. Be descriptive, be funny, be whatever you want to be. Just write it…and post it in the comments.

A Personality of His Own

I found this picture recently on Facebook and couldn't help but laugh at its accuracy.

Only, in my house, it's not boxes so much as paper bags. Or, to be more exact, paper bags from Cracker Barrel. You come home with one of those and Angus The Cat comes running from whatever cozy nest he's made himself and makes a beeline for the bag…ready to play.

Unfortuantely, when you've got 24 nails (rather than the more normal 20 found on normal cats), the bag gets torn pretty fast.  *Insert sad cat...

A Needle in a Haystack

One of the best things in the world (next to my family, of course) is finding a good book to read. Such a book can do so many things. It can provide a moment of relaxation after a long day, it can take you to faraway places you've never been, it can be a conversation starter at a party, and it can take you into a world that simply feels good.

So when I find such a book, I'm thrilled. And when that book is part of a series (or one of several stand alones from a writer with a nice back list)...
