Cover to Cover and Back Again

Curious, today…

What was your favorite book as a kid? The one you could never get enough of hearing/reading?

What is your favorite book now, as an adult?

Tiptoe, Through the Village

My family and I spent a little time Saturday night decorating some gingerbread houses. So, come, take a look…

Aside from the mishap just above the front door, I was fairly pleased with my effort here on the left. The snowman in the front yard is chocolate inside. :) Behind the house–which you can see–are some snow-capped bushes. And that little red and green thing in the foreground on the left? My light post.

My husband totally showed me up with his creation. His house not only had a chimney, i...

That Time of Year

Bits & Pieces at this time of year are always extra fun…

1) If you could sit on Santa’s lap today, what would you ask for?

2) Best Santa-gift you ever got?

3) Star or angel?

4) Favorite holiday treat?

P.S. I just announced a new contest (with Amish goodies as the prize) on my Laura Bradford website, so check it out here: http://laurabradford.com/news/

Same, Yet Different

It’s been a while since I’ve gone to the question box for a Writing Thursday post…

Carol’s Q:With two series, do you find your own mind splitting into two different writers?Do you find yourself feeling and thinking different as you write each book?

A:My sewing circle series is very, very different from my new Amish Mysteries in so many ways that I do, actually, feel different while working on each one. With the sewing circle books, I laugh a lot. I guess the ladies in the circle have become so...

Technology to the Rescue?

Commented on Facebook the other day about a partial section of our Christmas tree lights not working (this, of course, after spending hours on the lights, garland, and ornaments). Several folks suggested I “turn the tree around” and others simply laughed–with a been there, done that.

And then someone mentioned this…

It’s a zapper thingy that helps you fix broken Christmas lights.

Seriously.

I don’t have one (the lights magically fixed themselves last night), but how cool is a light fixing thingy?...

In the Name of a Book

I bought a pair of “cheaters” over the weekend…

Not because I’m willing to admit I’m getting older, but mainly so I can read EXTRA CREDIT by Maggie Barbieri. I even wore them on the train on Sunday so I could devour as many pages as possible.

Put me in a restaurant, and I’ll hold the menu out.

Hand me a product of some sort, and I’ll keep turning it in the light until I can make out as much of the directions as possible.

But the chance to read a book? I’ll cave and wear the glasses. :)

What are you...

A Touch of Home

It was a busy weekend around here. After Dear Daughter # 2 and I spentSaturday afternoon with some friends, both girls and I got the holiday decorations up around the house. We put together the tree, strung the lights (which look great this year, btw), and added the garland. Then, when DH (dear husband) got home from working overtime, we put the ornaments on the tree.

Immediately, the house had that magical feel it always has at this time of year.

Aside from the tree and all its glory, I’d have...

Black Friday? How About “Black December”?

If you’ve ever participated in Black Friday the day after Thanksgiving, you know you can get some good deals…if you don’t mind being bumped, cut-off,and screamed at.

At that’s before you put the car in park in the parking lot…

Well, I’m doing my own sort of “Black Friday” around here only; 1) you don’t have to drive, 2) there’s no shoving allowed, and 3) it last for 31-days instead of one.

That’s right, my pre-holiday sale lasts for the entire month of December!

Sound good?

Here’s the low down. M...

Peace From a Blank Page

Yesterday was one of those crazy days where–because of a car shortage in my house these days–I was literally going from 2 until 8, driving kids around.

The highlight of my day came when I got to sit down at my local Panera for a whopping 45 minutes between drop-off/pick-up and spend some time with the brand new notepad I’d purchased earlier in the day. To say I love to have a new notebook is quite the understatement. Much of my enthusiasm for the rather basic office supply is the fact that it...

It’s That Time of Year (Hurrah!)

Although it’s still November, it’s hard not to find myself being bitten by the holiday bug. I want to decorate.I want to bake (fudge season–yay). And I want to wander through the stores tracking down the perfect ornaments to commemorate the year formy husband and each of the kids.

I love it all.

But aside from those absolute favorite parts of the Christmas build-up, there are two more must-haves (at least in my book).

The first, is a carryover from my childhood. My brother and I loved to watch a...
