The Five!
1. Whew! What a crazy week it has been here. I've been working like mad, doing a ton of reading AND we had real wildlife drama. On Wednesday, all day, I kept hearing this really sad sound that I thought was a bird. My husband, however, said it was a Mama deer, calling for her baby. Talk about DEPRESSING. Bad enough to be wading through a really hard writing spell without feeling entirely codependent about your local animals. Anyway, I tried to block it out, and later that evening, my husband ...

burning questions
Due to an insane work schedule and a rapidly approaching deadline, I just don't have the brainpower for an actual entry today. So I will, instead, do another in an occasional series (okay, this is only the second) of questions that are currently on my mind. Such as:
1. Why is it that when my babysitters are here and put my daughter down for a nap, she'll sleep for two hours, but when it's just ME with no help and a ton of work to do, I get twenty minutes or nothing? Why?????
2. Why can't I be ...

back in town.
Hi.
So, yes, I'm back, trying to re-enter reality after a week away. Although, to be honest, reality was never THAT far off. As much as I want the beach to be a stress-free, work-free zone, sometimes both can't be avoided, so I did spend some time on this trip doing my daily juggle and trying to keep up with things. One thing---that was fun, but still technically work---was shooting a video for summer reading and the re-release of Along for the Ride. Wil, filmmaker extraordinaire, who made my ...

This Just In....
I told you all that if I had breaking news to report, I would interrupt my vacation to do so. Well, I think this applies, from PW Daily:
Hayes Buys 'Cut and Run'
Agent Leigh Feldman, of Darhansoff, Verrill, Feldman, sold a new YA novel by Sarah Dessen to Viking Children's Books. Regina Hayes bought world rights to Cut and Run, about a high school senior who, after her parents' divorce, has taken up the practice of assuming a new identity in each of the four towns she's lived in. Dessen, accord...

The Five!
1. Okay, so I know you saw this coming, but I can't help it. People: Friday Night Lights, probably my favorite TV show (which, as you know, is really saying something, considering how much TV I watch) returns tomorrow night on NBC at 8pm. I've been lucky enough to see this season already on DirecTV and still plan to see it from start to finish again, as it is Just That Good. I don't know what I can do to make people watch this show anymore. I've begged, pleaded, cajoled and wheedled. It's up ...

A list.
Five Reasons Why This Week Already Rocks:
1. Bret Michaels has been released from the hospital. Already! The man is like a the cat from that song: you can't keep him down. There must be some kind of gene in rock stars that makes them, like, almost superhuman. Maybe we can pinpoint it and pass it out to the rest of us?
2. My first beach trip of the season is getting closer. Holy guacamole, I have never been more ready to see the ocean in my life. What a crazy few months, you don't even want to...

It's Sunday afternoon, and I just returned from my second trip to the grocery store today. Yes, you read that right: second. I don't know when it happened, but somehow I have become someone who is always having to stop to pick up something for dinner, or a missing ingredient, or something crucial that cannot wait until tomorrow and yet I still somehow forgot the day before when I was at the same place. (I have also become that person who forgets the diaper/snack bag while in store, and has to...

The Five!
1. I swear, I have got to find a time to blog when my brain is functioning. I gave up posting in the morning, because the mornings are total chaos. But trying to do it right now, after writing for two solid hours, isn't great either. I mean, when I'm really working, it's like my brain runs on the treadmill and sweats HARD: the last thing I can do after is go for a power walk. See how terrible that metaphor was? Or maybe it was a simile. All right, that's it. I'm going to have to start waking ...

Hope.
I'm interrupting my normal blogging schedule to share with you the single best thing I have seen all freaking day. Maybe all freaking week.

I mean, come on! If that doesn't give you hope that even in the worst of times there is a glimmer, an open window, whatever you want to believe in specifically, I don't know what does. Look at that baby's face! It's so serene, like, don't worry. We're okay. Oh, my god, I can't even look at it without getting choked up. And no, I'm not hormonal. Just a tot...

Whew.
Even before I had a kid, I thought that being a stay at home parent had to be the hardest job in the world. Now that I've been enduring various babysitter crises and having to do the full-time Mom thing for the last couple of days, I know it for SURE. Whoa. At one point this afternoon, at the sandbox, when I was seeing double I was so tired, head reeling from everything I have to do workwise that just Will Not Get Done Today, all I could think about were my friends and cousins who have been d...
