Back to...something

When you live in a college town, you can't avoid the academic schedule. Your calendar might start in January and end in December, but really, everything begins in August and winds down in mid-May. This week is the official beginning of the onslaught of shower caddies, fans and power strips: they are suddenly for sale EVERYWHERE, from Bed, Bath and Beyond (where you'd expect it) to the grocery store (where you would not). And don't even start on the school supplies. If you're a pen/pencil/note...

Quick blog post, live from chaos: husband, toddler and two dogs are all now set up at house in town for the week while floors get refinished. Today has been nuts. We had to pack up for a week away, then get all furniture out. Dogs freaked, following us everywhere, while toddler endeavored to "help," which basically meant taking all her toys and dumping them in the driveway. Yikes! But we are here now, and madness subsided quickly when I realized I could order Pepper's Pizza (best in Chapel Hi...

The Five!

1. We are still counting down here to the Great Disruption, when we move across town while our floors get refinished. This project is really stressful on many levels, so it, like anything stressful, is shining a light on all the lovely differences between myself and my husband. Like our approach to how the house looks. Me, I'm like, if it's not totally awful to look at, we're okay. Him, it's all about upkeep and neatness. (I'd like to point out that the only thing I am truly perfectionistic a...

So yesterday, I was having one of those days of frustrations. The kind of where it seemed like everything I touched either broke, collapsed or burst into flames. (Okay, maybe not flames. But you get the idea.) My printer totally died, so I brought out an older one and plugged IT in, and then it died as well. Then the first one mysteriously began working again, but only across the room. My stapler collapsed, my address book went haywire, and for no reason I walked into the wall and banged my s...

I've done my best lately to NOT be having to do this blog under chaotic circumstances. Ideally, I'm over in my office, alone, where I can focus and take my time. Tonight, however, due to various circumstances, I am in the eye of our nightly hurricane: husband is making dinner (pork loin with fancy peanut sauce, yum), toddler wants to make lemonade (big mess, always) and I have about ten things to do before I can even begin to think about relaxing. Hello, Sunday!

I know I've said this before, ...

The Five!

1. I had a totally squealing fangirl moment when I saw that Carol Burnett is going to be guesting on Glee this season as Sue Sylvester's mother. OH MY GOD! I love, love, Carol Burnett, grew up watching her variety show after school, and just finished listening to her memoir, This Time Together. Okay, so I'm a little obsessed. But she is HILARIOUS and I can't wait to see what they do with her. If you don't know much about Miss Burnett, go over to YouTube and do a search, especially of the bloo...

First off, I want to thank you all for the kind words and condolences you sent after my last post, where I mentioned that I'd been at a memorial service. I flew out to California on Saturday morning, early, and then returned on Monday night. One of my oldest and dearest friends really needed some support during a time so devastating I can't even imagine. It's not my place to give details, so I won't, but just know that there are some things you just never should have to do, some people you s...

I know I usually post on Sunday night, but I'm here in CA for a memorial service and am just...I can't. What I can say is hug the ones you love, tight. See you Wednesday.

The Five!

1. I am seriously multitasking as I write this entry. I'm on hold Apple Support Chat, which is supposedly going to help me in 9 minutes. Meanwhile I'm also trying to solve my problem (my calendars no longer sync with Mobile Me, rendering it pretty much useless) by trolling the forums and trying a few things on my own. And then there's this blog thing. It's just...indicative, I think, of how my life has gotten lately. I can no longer seem to do ANY one thing all by itself: I have to double, or...

My dogs have been crate dogs since they were tiny puppies. Which is to say, when we leave the house, they go in their dog crates and stay there until we come back. Why, you ask? Mostly because they are, to use the medical term, crazy. They both suffer from serious separation anxiety, which causes them to go completely nuts whenever they sense we are going to leave the house. They follow me around, whining. Nip at my purse and ankles to keep me from going. Gather at the door at my feet, altern...
