Ahhh.....
Sometimes, the weather can be like a cure for what ails you. Today, I think that was literally true, for me anyway. Not only do I finally have my energy and ability to sleep without coughing non-stop back, but it was a GORGEOUS warm, sunny day, the kind that restores your faith in, well, everything. We went to playgroup, then to the park, where we soaked up sun, ran around, and went down the slide face-first for the first time (well, not me, but Sasha, although I was with her in spirit). Ther...

On the mend...
Hi.
I know, you just don't know WHEN to expect me these days, do you? I am full of surprises.
Anyway, when I last updated, I reported that I was fighting a "full on something," instead of what I initially thought was a cold. Well, after an ongoing fever and having crazy chills, insane aches, and coughing up a lung, my husband finally dragged me to the doctor, who reported I had either "a mild bronchitis" or "an upper respiratory infection," or maybe both, as they might be the same thing. I was ...

The Friday Five!
1. Okay, so this is probably going to not be the best blog entry, as the cold I was fighting became a full on SOMETHING last night. You know the drill: all stuffed up, feeling achy, and a fever, which came on this afternoon and is now, finally, succumbing to Tylenol. I spent the entire afternoon splayed out in bed, unable to sleep but also unable to get up, just in this weird half-awake state. Ugh. But I AM feeling better, so hopefully by tomorrow I'll be all past this. In the meantime, is an...

A little patience, yeah.....
This may be a short entry, if only because I've been battling toddler tantrums all day and am pretty much spent. I feel like I've been lucky, so far, in that my daughter is not a big fit-thrower. She's only splayed herself on the floor or gone boneless in public a couple of times, and can usually be distracted and rerouted when she starts to whine about something she wants or wants to do. That said, the last couple of days have been trying. It seems like EVERYTHING is causing her to freak out...

Don't let the door hit you....
Today is the last day of February. I wrote here, more than once, about my dislike for this month, which is probably why it proceeded this year to kick my butt more than ever. Snow? Check. Bitter cold? Yep. Sick toddler/husband? You bet. But now, it is almost over. And even the fact that they are calling for more snow on Tuesday is not enough to take away my joy. I don't care if March isn't different at ALL, other than in name. Because it's March. And by the end of it, usually, it feels more l...

The Friday Five!
1. I'd like to take a minute to mourn the passing of my Palm Centro. It was a good phone. Cute, easy to use, and had been with me through lots of ups and downs, all over the US. But the other morning, after being charged all night, I turned it on and after about ten minutes, the battery was dead. I took it to the Sprint store, where they said I wasn't eligible for an upgrade discount for another month, so I should get the battery replaced at another Sprint place. Packed up toddler, drove to a...

Kerfuffle
Regular readers of this blog know that I am not much of an instigator. If anything, I'm the total opposite---an outstigator?---someone who tries to stop things from blowing up at all costs. Which is why it's so odd to find myself in the thick of this whole Common Sense/Barnes and Noble/parental rating thing. And now that Publisher's Weekly has written up an
article
on it that linked to my original blog entry, it seems like I need to address it again.
First, a recap. This weekend, while lookin...

Today, it was sixty-five degrees here. I can't even begin to tell you what this has done for my mental state. I mean, 65! And sunny! Of course, it's going to get cold again. But this little hint, tiny peek, into spring has pretty much banished the gloom. I don't even feel like I have a case of the Sundays right now. Okay, not MUCH of one. The best part: I'm writing this at 6:17pm, and it's not even totally dark yet. YESS! We spent the late afternoon out in the sandbox and playing in the yard,...

The Friday Five! (posted on Thursday night, sorry!)
1. I think I've written here before about how I was raised by two professors in a household where spelling and grammar was VERY important. If I left a note for my mom or dad and spelled a word wrong, I'd often come back to find that word circled with instructions to correct it. ("Go look it up!" they'd say, which NEVER made sense to me, because if I can't spell it, how can I look it up? Parents, so confusing.) Now, though, I am grateful for all this training, if only because I am reasonably c...

I've written here before about how I just do not photograph well. I keep waiting for this to change, maybe as I get older and more confident, but no. It's just my curse and I have to live with it. Occasionally, if we take a WHOLE bunch of pictures, one or two will be decent. But in the random shot, I have learned to have low expectations.
I'm reminded of this because a couple of weeks back, I went to my neighbor's art opening, over in Raleigh. It was a rare night out for us, without the toddle...
