Welcome to S.A.!

Describe your SFR writing with 5 words: I just go for it!

What’s your favorite:

Sci-fi TV show – ‘Z Nation’, because it’s so much less serious than ‘The Walking Dead’.
Sci-fi heroine – Ellen Ripley, of course. (Anna here: Nice choice!)
Spaceship – Serenity. There’s a lot more going on there than all the other spaceships combined.
Sci-fi gadget – the Star Trek transporter. I hate airports.
Alien – Alien! So many possibilities.

Describe your latest release in just one sentence: Facing exile or worse, Team Three has only their untested abilities and loyalty to each other to save themselves, their families and their home.

HeroForTheEmpireCoverFinalWelcome to Christina!

Describe your SFR writing with 5 words: Adventure and Romance at Lightspeed. (Anna here: sounds awesome!)

What’s your favorite:

Sci-fi film – It would be almost too easy to say that Star Wars (A New Hope) is my favorite SF movie. When it blasted its way into the public consciousness almost four decades ago, George Lucas opened the airlock for all the SF flicks that followed and set the course for a large percentage of the books, in particular sci-fi romance—because, what is Star Wars if not a romance? Yes, I know the first episode had its hints of incest, but in the end, the girl fell for the right guy and they lived happily ever after in a galaxy far, far away.

But…if I was trapped in a long range shuttle with only one video to watch, it would have to be Aliens(plural). Alien(singular) first showed us that the chick had the grit to be the hero, but it wasn’t until the sequel that the girls with guns came into their own. Ripley tossed the alien queen’s butt out the airlock, sure, but the gutsy little marine with the really big gun stuck in my memory. Vasquez became the prototype for quite a few characters in my stories.

Sci-fi TV show – For TV shows, once again I won’t go with the most popular. I loved Babylon 5. Yes, I know the dialogue could be clunky and some of the episodes were cheesy (King Arthur in space??), but the story arc of the Shadow War that ran through the first three seasons was fantastic. The writers did a masterful job of planting subtle clues, sometimes in the first season that didn’t come to fruition for a year or more. They kind of lost their edge in the fourth season, but I can’t watch that final show without crying.

Sci-fi hero and heroine: My favorite hero and heroine change a lot, depending on the last great book I read, but the formidable women I like (the ones who can take care of themselves and the hero if need be) require an equally strong love interest. Right now, I favor Devi and Rupert from Rachel Bach’s Paradox trilogy (starting with Fortune’s Pawn). She is a power-suit wearing, butt-kicking mercenary who signs on as security aboard a merchant vessel. Rupert is the ship’s cook and not at all what he seems.

Sci-fi romance author: My favorite author is Linnea Sinclair, not only because her books have had a huge influence on my writing, but because she’s always been gracious enough to answer this newbie’s questions. And she loves cats.

Side-Story-Caleb400Welcome to C.E!

Describe your SFR writing with 5 words: Character-driven space opera romance

What’s your favorite:

Sci-fi film – Just one? *whimper* I think I’ll have to say The Last Starfighter, because that is the movie that got me into science fiction as a kid.
Sci-fi TV show – Deep Space Nine (Love me some Quark)
Sci-fi heroine – Princess Leia – because she can rescue herself while calling Han a Nerf herder. (Anna here: Woo hoo!)
Spaceship – The Serenity: To me, this seems the most realistic spaceship – all hacked together with its quirks. (Anna again: I *heart* The Serenity)
Sci-fi gadget –REPLICATOR! I so want one of these.

Describe your SFR writing with 5 words: Weird worlds, mystery and romance

What’s your favorite:

Sci-fi film – The very first Star Wars, because I was young and impressed by the special effects.
Sci-fi TV show – Red dwarf, because it’s weirdly funny.
Sci-fi romance book – Thousand Star by Piers Anthony, because of the sweet romance between a human female and an alpha male blob.
Sci-fi romance author – Andre Norton for stories of independent heroines stuck in dark places
Alien – Larry Niven’s Pierson’s puppeteer

Inherit_the_Stars_Part_1-1Welcome to Laurie!

Describe your SFR writing with 5 words: Stellar romantic adventure—anytime, anywhere.

What’s your favorite:

Sci-fi film – Avatar really checked all the boxes for me.
Sci-fi TV show – Defying Gravity, a quality SF/R Near Future series that was shamefully doomed by the network. (Yes, another one.)
Sci-fi hero – Sgt. Terry Myell of The Outback Stars by Sandra McDonald.
Spaceship – So much hardware, so little time. Probably Prometheus from the movie of the same name. It was one slick craft. Serenity from Firefly and the Serenity motion picture would have to place a close second. A near derelict vessel, she flew by love alone. Captain Tightpants even said it so. (Anna here: Two great ships!)
Alien – The Symbionts in Rachel Bach’s Paradox series were fascinating and deadly.

Hi Res FearlessWelcome to KM!

Describe your SFR writing with 5 words:  I find it uncomfortable describing my own writing so I’ll give you 5 words that readers have said about my SFR. “Fantastic world-building. Gripping. Exciting. Passionate. ”

What’s your favorite:

Sci-fi film: Hmm…How can I chose a favorite? I will always love the original Star Wars trilogy (Empire Strikes Back being my favorite).

Sci-fi TV show: Doctor Who. I got hooked on the reboot over a year ago and watched every episode in about 3 weeks. My favorite doctor was the 10th (David Tennant). I especially loved him with Rose, Donna Noble, and River Song.

Sci-fi heroine: Dr. Elly Arroway from Contact

Sci-fi hero: Well, you already know I love the 10th Doctor so I’ll choose another…Han Solo! (Anna here: Hooray, I’m a huge Han fan!)

Spaceship: How about a time machine? Back the Future’s Delorean, which Old Man Peabody’s son thought was a spaceship. Lol! (Anna here: time machines are always welcome)

Sci-fi weapon: The ARC gun from District 9. Only the Prawns (aliens) can use the gun because the technology works exclusively with their DNA. How cool is that?

Sci-fi TV show – Firefly. Joss Whedon is beyond genius. (Anna here: Couldn’t agree more!)

Spaceship – USS Enterprise (The Next Generation – Jean Luc Picard anyone?)

Sci-fi gadget -The holodeck. Imagine physically visiting a world you created.

Alien – Chewbacca. He’s ruined me for anyone else. (Anna here: Yay for Chewie)

saving grace ecoverWelcome to Misa!

Describe your SFR writing with 5 words: Adventure and romance in space! (Anna here: Awesome!)

What’s your favorite:

Sci-fi film: Galaxy Quest. I love it because it’s such a fun film, and done with such love for sci fi and fandom.
Sci-fi TV show: Stargate SG1. I watch this over and over. Especially episodes featuring a certain snarky System Lord.
Sci-fi heroine: Sam Carter. She’s my idea of a perfect heroine. (Anna here: Yay for super-smart heroines!)
Spaceship: Talyn. From the moment Farscape introduced the concept of living ships able to bear young, I was entranced. Talyn was flawed, but beautiful, and his captain wasn’t bad either. ;)
Sci-fi gadget: Sonic screwdriver. Luke had his lightsaber, Harry his wand, but the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver is what I would always choose.
