Benchmarking The Internet Against TV
Whenever you attend any kind of marketing conference (be it for the Internet or a general marketing session), the one question that always comes up is, "when will the Internet surpass television in terms of mass consumption and usage?"
That's the wrong question.
If you have ever seen any of the PowerPoint slides that statistically demonstrate these media trends, it's quite clear that while the traditional media channels (radio, print, TV, etc...) remain either stagnant or are gaining a...

From Degrees To Pixels
It's hard for many to embrace, but it's a reality. Changes in business today are becoming more and more dramatic and pronounced.
It's not just something that has been written about in this column for the past year and a half, it is change that has been nearly two decades in the making. The Internet is changing who we are and how we do business. The recession is also part of the equation, as it continues to push businesses to do more with less. Before the Internet, businesses really could do ...

Asking For Help
Human beings have a tendency to want to help one another. When push comes to shove (it can be an emergency or otherwise) people who would normally never socialize tend to come together with miraculous results.
It's somewhat curious why there still exists certain individuals who see asking for help as a sign of weakness. There are others who see asking for help as too self-promotional. In my first/new/just-released book, Six Pixels of Separation, I make the statement that we no longer live...

What's In Your Bag?
Wouldn't you just love to snoop around in other people's work bags (or briefcases) to see their gear and what they use?
I just came across this very smart widget from Amazon. I like the fact that you can add comments as well. There is even an affiliate link you could add in (this one does not have one).
This is what's in my bag. What's in yours?
(hat tip: Terry's Photo Topics).

In Conversation With Steve Wozniak
Episode #170 of Six Pixels of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast is now live and ready for you to listen to.
First off, let me say that the audio quality of the phone call is pitiful in this Podcast. I don't know why this is happening, but whenever a call is recorded through my M-Audio MicroTrack, it is giving off a high-end buzz. If someone knows how this can be fixed, please let me know. That being said, I think this conversation is worth enduring the high pitch sound for. I was lucky...

Attention Radio DJs: There Is Still Hope
If you think that the newspaper and magazine industry are in trouble, terrestrial radio is hurting pretty badly too.
If you even bother to spin the radio dial while in your car or at home, you'll note a severe lack of voice talent, shows being repeated multiple times throughout the week and highly annoying (and long) commercial breaks. In order to adjust to the new realities, many radio stations are shifting formats, moving people around and doing anything and everything to save the media c...

The Saddening State Of Mass Media
There has been a lot of talk - both in traditional and online media - about the Government's desire to better understand (and potentially regulate) the many online social channels we use to connect.
From Blogs to Twitter, there is a potential appetite for groups like the FCC to become more involved as a means to protect the public from unscrupulous Marketers. After the weekend I had, they may want to buckle down and pay a little closer attention to traditional mass media. Over the weekend, I d
Facebook, Creeping, Parents And The Future Of Online Social Networking's Growth
In early July, ReadWriteWeb reported that there were more grandparents on Facebook than high school student. What does that mean for the future growth of online social networks?
The good people at The Onion think that they know why there is an explosive growth in adults taking part in online platforms like Facebook and Twitter. With "back-to-school" on everybody's mind, we can expect to see another sudden surge in both growth and usage.
