A Marketing Thriller

Episode #177 of Six Pixels of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast is now live and ready for you to listen to.

This is an important episode. It is not a standard episode of the Podcast, but something very different. This is a conversation with the thriller novelist, J.C. Hutchins. As Marketers, it's important to listen and learn from people like Hutchins. He's an individual who always wanted to be a published author and nothing was going to get in his way. So, after tons of rejection, he...

The Trigger Finger

If the way in which we use the Internet (and mobile) is so different from traditional media, the advertising is going to have to change.

How many times have you found yourself sitting in front of the television, watching a sub-par show and saying to yourself, "well, there's only 20 minutes left, I might as well watch and see how this turns out?" It happens all of the time. You're in the car listening to the radio just hoping that something interesting comes on, even though you've endured...

Newspapers, Google, Advertising And The Big New Media Mess

Here is a very fascinating interview with Rupert Murdoch ( News Corp. Chief Executive Officer).

This could well be one of the most interesting looks at what happens when a traditional media is in flux, uncertainty and will do (and say) whatever it can to figure out where the new business models are (and to protect what they have): YouTube - Sky News - Interview with Rupert Murdoch.

The real problem with News Corp. turning off Google (or the search engine pipes) is not about distributing...

Why Digital Agencies Aren't Ready To Lead (And Why Traditional Agencies Shouldn't Either)

One of the more dynamic online conversations about Digital Marketing over the past few weeks has been happening over at Advertising Age.

The conversation started in the article titled, Why Digital Agencies Aren't Ready to Lead, by Ana Andjelic and was followed up by the piece, Why Digital Agencies Are Indeed Ready to Lead, by Jacques-Hervé Roubert. Both articles (and the comments that go with them) are well-worth checking out. The spark to this debate came from Andjelic who stated:

How To Avoid Bad Television

One of the best (and easiest) ways to avoid bad television, is to watch good television online.

Yes, there is plenty of good television. And - just like the Internet - you have dig around and scratch beneath the surface to find the real gems. One of the best (in terms of learning about business, community and how it all connects) is Charlie Rose. Without question, Rose not only has some of the best guests out there, but he's also one of the most amazing conversationalists in the world.

It...

Your Personal Brand Is Not Scalable

How are you going to outsource or pass-on some of the conversations and opportunities that will come your way as more and more people follow, friend and connect to you?

The answer is simple: you can't. And, because you can't, it's time we all started to admit that we are going to let people down, and that this is going to cause a major rift in how people connect in online social networks, who they follow and how "real" the relationships really are. Seth Godin recently tackled this in a Blog ...

6 Ways To Build A Strong Community

"What am I doing wrong?" is often the question many people who are just starting out in online social networks and Social Media (Blogs, Twitter , Facebook , etc...) ask. It's a fair question, but then again, it's not a fair question because there are no real rules for success.

That being said, there are some good guidelines.

Here are 6 things you can do right now to improve your chances of building a strong community (that involves little more than a simple mind-set shift):

Be consistent

Media Hacks Podcast #19 Is Now Live

Episode #176 of Six Pixels of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast is now live and ready for you to listen to. It is also episode #19 of Media Hacks.

It's not a great excuse, but business travel has kept the Six Pixels of Separation Podcast from being published - which (as you will hear) is a very lame excuse. Regardless, here is also a new episode of Media Hacks (it's #19). It's actually just a very personal conversation with Julien Smith (In Over Your Head and Trust Agents) about...

There Is Nothing New Here

It's almost hard to believe that there are some New Media pundits who actually say, "there is nothing new here" when reviewing their peers. It's shocking (and a little bit sad).

Last week, there was a Blog post here titled, 10 New Business Books Worth Checking Out. As I was sorting through which books to list, it was interesting to read the reviews surrounding these titles (both on the book retail websites and on Blogs, Twitter feeds, etc...). You could tell which reviewers were regular...
