The 3rd Book Has Just Been Ordered! by Mandy Rosko
Vampires Don’t Share With Dragons, the third book in my Patreon series, has just been ordered. The Proof copies, that is.
I couldn’t be more thrilled. This set is thicker because there were four volumes this time around instead of three. I asked my supporters which covers they liked best, showed them the before and afters, and everyone seemed to agree on what they wanted.
For that, I am super excited for when the copies come in. I love unboxing all of my books, and the first four copies will go out to Patrons right away, while I get to keep one.
That copy will be for me to stick on my shelf and admire. I’m curious of any other authors reading this, do you guys like looking at your books on your shelf? As if they look like trophies to admire and be proud of

Stars in the Sky Paranormal-Scope
We are entering the season when it looks like stars are falling from the sky. Don’t dismay. Meteors happen.
While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.
The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.
The week for:
Aries:
Shapeshifters indulge their loved ones. Spend time with someone you love and pull out all the stops.
Taurus:
When faeries are torn between two directions, they sent two in the different directions to reconnoiter. It’s important before making a life changing decision to study all options.
Gemini:
A vampire stands as a wall between you and others that are less than kind regarding your feelings. Protect your tender heart this week.
Cancer:
Dragons fly to see experts in the topics they love. Having a thick hide is an advantage when pursuing the arts.
Leo:
Elves are dependable. Their wisdom knows no bounds. Others view you in this way. Don’t stress just read more and expand your knowledge base.
Virgo:
Orcs are running down your street. Take another way to get where you going. You don’t need unnecessary drama from others this week.
Libra:
Goblins respect the computer. For some reason they are rather frantic this week to back everything up. Take a hint.
Scorpio:
Mermaids explore sunken ships. Sometimes it’s good to escape your reality every once in a while and relieve the stresses of daily life. A movie is a good idea.
Sagittarius:
Pixies are great mediators. You don’t need to choose a side if you don’t want to. Stay in your comfort zone even if it’s on the fence.
Capricorn:
Werewolves have a busy social life. The holidays will rev that up. Be practical and make lists to stay organized.
Aquarius:
Gremlins are builders and don’t always destroy. A new collaboration is coming your way. The possibilities are exciting.
Pisces:
Weretigers love travel and that option is in your future. Plan to go to someplace you’ve always wanted to go to.

Delightful Daimons… An Author Interview By Ripley Proserpina
This week, I’m sharing an author interview I did with Lucy Smoke. I love author interviews (in case you can’t tell) because as a reader, I’m always on the hunt for a new series. To me, there is no worse feeling than finishing the last book an author has written. I can’t even enjoy the end, because I know it is just that—the end!
Lucy writes books with reverse harems. I recently read her book, Daimon, which immediately intrigued me. It was equal parts fantasy, romance, dystopian, and mystery. Read on for my interview!
Your book, Daimon, has characteristics of a high fantasy novel. Tell me about the world you created for Nerys, the main character in this story.
It was actually really difficult to design the world that Nerys and her potentials live in. Nerys lives in a world without an actual name, and I don’t plan to name it planetary or otherwise because I want to keep it open for imagination/interpretation.
There is magic, technology, and a slew of gods and goddess, some of which you will meet, some of which you may never meet. There are four main gods—Apil, Queen Jiang, Ngame, and Ticab—and several lesser gods. [Semi-spoiler] In book 2, Necrosis, you will meet an actual god/goddess.
The world where Nerys lives is made up of magic— witches, spirits… How do all these creatures get along? And do you have a favorite paranormal creature?
The awesome part about Nerys’s world is that most people [aside from King Matric] get along. At the point in the time period that Daimon starts, there hasn’t been a Daimon for a long time. People outside of Matric’s city (otherwise known as Euron) know of Daimons, but each city is governed in its own way—which you’ve probably seen in a difference between places like Ragnarok, Euron, or even Cephei. The people of Euron are oppressed, they aren’t as educated as other cities due to the authority and tyranny of the King. There are humans, there are shapeshifters/familiars [Luca], werewolves, vampires, gods, goddesses, demi-gods, etc. but you will likely not see them in this series. Dragons, which if you haven’t read Daimon yet [spoiler], is what one of the characters once was, are practically extinct in this timeline. The people in this series care less about what a person is and rather more on who a person is. Even King Matric has a reason that he hates Daimons, or appears to.
Oh my gosh, my favorite paranormal creature? I don’t actually have one. I know, I know—I’m terrible. I do, however, love hybrids. Hybrids of all kinds—werevamp, demigods, phoenixes, shapeshifters etc. I love them because they have even more special abilities and can really surprise you.
Daimon has a reverse harem twist. What drew you to write a reverse harem? What are the challenges when writing a romance with multiple love interests?
A friend actually urged me to read a book and it turned out to be a reverse harem and all of the sudden, I was hooked. It’s been a feast on the genre for over a year now. Before, I was more of a general romance reader—young adult, new adult, historical, sci fi—as long as it had romance, I loved it.
Challenges, oh geez. There are always challenges to writing—multiple love interests or not. Giving them all their own personality—their own interactions and lives outside of the MC. Because, to me, they are real, they DO have a life outside of Nerys and that’s one major thing I have to keep in mind as I write.
Nerys- has the best name. It is so unique. How did you come up with it? Do you labor over choosing names?
I’m glad you think Nerys is an awesome name, my first editor told me it was stupid and told me I needed to change it if I was to be taken seriously. I obviously ignored her advice which I’m glad I did. I have no idea where it came from. I wrote the first chapter without her having a name. Then, all of the sudden, it was Nerys and it was nothing else. I didn’t actually labor over choosing name’s like I usually do. Although, I was halfway through writing Daimon when Trickery by Jaymin Eve and Jane Washington came out—and if you’ve read it 1. It’s awesome 2. There’s a character named Coen, and I DID agonize over whether or not to change his name. I didn’t and now it’s set in stone…aka print.
What’s next for Nerys?
[cue evil laughter] I already know how Nerys’s story ends and I may have a spin off in the works [that is not set in stone yet though]. If you’ve read Daimon, there’s an author note in the back that hints at something readers should remember as the series continues. I don’t want to give any more spoilers than what I have already. Gosh it’s so hard.
Okay, one more semi-spoiler—there will be more spice coming up for Nerys [wiggles eyebrows]
You have a new release coming out, the Iris Boys. Is this a departure from Daimon? What’s it about?
I started the Iris Boys series WAY before I started Daimon, then months ago I found it and realized how important it was to me. Harlow—the main character for Iris Boys—is just as close to my heart as Nerys is. I thought about waiting to release NoN, but it was already finished and I couldn’t help myself. So, it’s being published while I finish Necrosis: Nerys Newblood book 2. It’s a separate story in a world without paranormal/fantastical aspects. Now or Never is a contemporary new adult reverse harem.
Finally- here’s the speed round of randomness…
What was the last book you read?
Alien’s Mail Order Bride by Ruby Dixon
Favorite book as a child?
The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine—first book to make me cry
Favorite book as a teenager?
Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins—writer of the Hunger Games series (GtO is SO much better)
Finish this sentence: I only have time for….chocolate and sex scenes.
Aliens? Yes or No?
Yes.

Lucy has given us a sneak peek of Now or Never, the contemporary romance she has releasing November 29th!
All I needed was a break. A sign. Something.
Nearly getting run over was not the sign I was looking for, but it’s what I got. That and a group of guys who say they work for something called Iris.
No, thank you.
I had enough to deal with, thank you very much. No brother. No dad. No sanity most of the time. I certainly didn’t need to be dealing with thieves and wild cats and guys that were way too good looking. That is…I didn’t need them until they were all I had left. Now I have to make a decision about my future and whether or not they’re going to be in it.

Veterans Day by Stacy Hoff
Tomorrow is Veterans Day. I want to express my thanks to the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. They are America’s brave.
When I was a child, I was given a day off from school to celebrate. Today, the school district where I live has children attend school instead. The school day is filled with special Veterans Day programing. Different guest speakers teach kids about what they had experienced when they served. My kids love listening to their stories.
Because tomorrow is Saturday, my kids’ schools will celebrate Veterans Day today. No time like the present to get started celebrating.
I wish all Veterans a day of peace, and plenty of praise. I know in my school district, the praise is guaranteed.

Book blurb for HOTTER THAN THE CARIBBEAN (Building Love #2)
Luis Serrano, the unwanted love child of a hotel construction magnate, is determined to reach his father’s level of success. When Luis finds himself pitted against his half-brother for control over their ailing father’s company, sibling rivalry comes to a head. The stakes are high—the brother that best completes their portion of the Caribbean construction project will gain control over the entire company. To win, Luis hires an interior design firm. But the firm will have to perform difficult work under serious time constraints.
Melanie Merritt is used to sibling rivalry. She’s always been second best to her older sister, the “golden child” of their parent’s interior design firm. Melanie’s desire is to be an artist. She works for her family to appease them. Her newest task is to implement a complex project for Luis Serrano in an impossibly short deadline. If she fails, her family’s company may go bankrupt. But Melanie can’t keep her too-creative ideas away from her family, and the client.
Completing work on time won’t be easy. Especially when dual sibling rivalries threaten to destroy the project—and a passion hotter than the Caribbean.

Sieze the Inspiration
I mentioned last week that I went to Charleston and in a bit I’ll share some pictures of travels this fall but for those who do read my posts, you know this year has been a year of movement—moving from the desert to the lush Carolinas. In my opinion, this fall has been pretty warm thus far. A couple days ago, I had the time to take a walk and I have to say it was absolutely mesmerizing. A cool breeze on my face, sunshine, clean air. The experience was healing to say the least.
Growing up in Virginia, I always acknowledged that I lived in a beautiful state. Come summers or holiday vacation time, we had plenty of years we drove north towards Canada or south towards Florida. I saw our destinations and the majority of the states in between. That being said, I don’t think I had an appreciation for everything I saw until I got older. Part of that could be I’m paying attention now. Part of that could be the changes I’ve experienced in life and what really matters more to me as I’ve gotten older. Either way, I do feel that living in the Carolinas, I’m seeing these states through new eyes.
Why does any of these even matter? For some, it doesn’t and that’s fine. For me, I’m at a point in my life where change is constant, not simply because it happens but because I’m searching it out. I’m finding myself inspired by a lot around me and that leads me to try new things as I look towards more creative outlets.
As promised, here are some recent pictures… enjoy and happy writing this week!

Day Seven Nanowrimo by Mandy Rosko
As of this writing I am a little over 10K words into my Nanowrimo and am currently on time to finish my 50K words and hopefully get The Billionaire Fantasy, which I have been writing every since last year on Wattpad, finished.
Gonna admit right now that I’m kind of nervous about it this year. I got a part time job at one of my favorite book stores for the winter season, and along with my usual Sire word count, I will also be turning in a Novella for my Patrons on Patreon.
Now, I’ve also added up the words I will have to do this year in order to get it done. It won’t be the most amount I’ve ever had to do, in fact, compared to last year, this year should be easier, so why am I nervous?
Maybe I feel for the first time a real pressure to win Nanowrimo, and I don’t want to take away from my Patreon novella, and I want to get my other stories handed in on time for my publisher.
I’m not really sure, maybe it’s the added weight of the job that’s got me a bit stressed, but this year will test out whether or not I can actually do it, and I’m determined. Maybe that’s all I need.
Are you doing Nanowrimo this year? Do you have other deadlines on top of it?
Let me know in the comments below

Lost Boys, Shmost Boys… By Ripley Proserpina
Now is the season for stomach aches, relentless stress, and constant Amazon monitoring. On Thursday, I’ll be releasing the first book in a new paranormal romance series. Briar, is the story of a young woman with a condition that makes it necessary for her to avoid sunlight. Any UV rays, and her skin blisters and burns.
The book is a reverse harem, which means the main character, Briar, falls in love with multiple guys at the same time.
And who is the best match for a girl allergic to the sun? It’s a paranormal romance… so… YUP! Vamps!
Just for you, here’s a sneak peek at the story!
Briar is available on KU November 9th! http://amzn.to/2ziU4LV[image error]
Briar Hale had waited four years for this day.
Four years of online classes, taking every pre-requisite Boston College required and getting the best possible grades.
The leading researcher of the genetic syndrome, erythropoietic protoporphyria, or EPP, Professor Nors knew more than anyone else in the world about Briar’s condition.
But the man was notoriously reclusive and never returned any of the emails Briar had sent him. Nor had he answered her questions about bone marrow and ferrochelatase catalyzing. A girl like her had a lot of time on her hands, and she’d spent that time searching for answers about why her body worked so differently than everyone else’s.
A garbage truck went by, distracting her, and she waved her hand in front of her face to dissipate the sickeningly-sweet smell. Then, she let it drop to her side as she took in the scenery.
“Move.”
Briar had been staring up at the gothic revival architecture, working up the courage to go inside for her first college class with other students.
Now, however, she narrowed her eyes at the man who spoke. Pointedly, she stared at the available sidewalk around her. In response, he merely raised a dark eyebrow bisected with a scar.
“Don’t be a dick, Sylvain. Sorry, miss.” A behemoth of a man with blond hair elbowed his friend and tipped his chin in an old world way that made her smile.
The dark man snorted, and her good feelings melted away. “Walk around me. I’m not taking up the entire sidewalk.”
At five and a half feet, Briar was solidly average.
The dark man seemed to bulk up at her challenge, and for the first time, she really studied him. A foot taller than she was, he had tan skin, and shoulder-length, wavy brown hair. Broad shoulders and thick arms clad in a long-sleeve tee completed the lumberjack look he had going.
Sylvain.
She amended the occupation she’d mentally assigned him. Instead of a lumberjack, he looked like a man who lived alone in the Appalachian Mountains near her parents’ home in Beckley, West Virginia. With the manners he displayed, it seemed a fitting characterization.
“What?” he asked, and she realized she’d been staring.
“I’m just wondering how long it’s been since you’ve spoken to other humans,” she mused, not trying to hide her sarcasm. “You seem out of practice.”
His dark eyes widened for a second, but when his friend burst out laughing, they narrowed again. Mumbling something under his breath, he dipped his head and strode toward the building.
“Hope I don’t have class with that guy,” she muttered, and the light-haired man laughed again.
“Don’t worry, you won’t. Sylvain’s too dumb for college. Have a good day, miss. It’s been a pleasure.” Like he had earlier, the man addressed her formally. When he bowed, hand over his heart, Briar took a step back, surprised.
“Goodbye,” she replied and watched as he followed Sylvain inside.
It took her a moment to gather herself and remember what her purpose was. She was used to deflecting snarky comments, so Sylvain hadn’t bothered her as much as his friend’s actions had. Those had left her off balance and confused. A part of her wondered if the man had been making fun of her and his friend.
Annoyed at herself for being distracted by a single unexpected blip, she straightened her shoulders and went inside. It was late afternoon, but sunlight still poured in from the windows. The outside of the building belied the bright, open interior. Light floors and stainless steel fixtures made the room seem full of light, and instinctively, Briar searched for the shadows.
Her skin was covered, white-buttoned gloves on her hands and long sleeves right over her wrists, but she knew what would happen if an inch of her skin came into contact with the sun. This room seemed to be designed to be in the light, no matter where she stood.
She’d been less nervous outside, which didn’t make any sense.
But pain changed a person’s brain, she reminded herself, and her reactions to things weren’t always rational. There was no reason to hide at the edge of rooms. She was covered, and if she hadn’t burned outside, she wouldn’t burn inside.
Taking a deep breath to shore up her nerves, she searched for a map of the building, identified the auditorium where Professor Nors was lecturing, and made her way there.
As she suspected, all she needed to do was follow the hordes of people to find the hall. Professor Nors’s mysteriousness made him that much more popular. If his communication with her was any indication, he would have a ton of other scientists and students dying to ask him questions or hear of his latest discoveries.
Briar caught her breath when she entered. Built like an amphitheater, the room was teeming with people, and the seats were quickly filling. Some had already given up and staked out a piece of the wall. Energy hummed through the room, as if they were fans waiting for a rock star to appear.
Briar moved as close to the front as possible, grateful, in this room at least, there were no windows. She was able to slide her hat off her head and remove her gloves and immediately felt more at ease. Those pieces of clothing were the things that made her stand out the most, identified her as different. Without them, she was another student. Pale, yes, but not glaringly obvious as other.
A hush descended, and from a side door came the man who must be Professor Nors. Whispers died away, the hall so quiet Briar wondered if anyone was breathing.
No doubt about it. He was a handsome man. He had pale skin, a shock of dark hair, square jaw, and full lips. His cheekbones looked carved from ice. But his entire countenance screamed, stay back.
“My name is Dr. Hudson Nors. I will be presenting my research on EPP and genetic screening. I will not be taking questions.”
At those words, a wave of voices rose in denial, but Professor Nors lifted an eyebrow, and the room descended back into silence.
It was strange; she could be both amused and annoyed by this man. She had a million questions she wanted to ask, and would, if she had to chase him down to do so. She appreciated his damn-the-torpedoes attitude, but it wouldn’t frighten her away. He could snarl as much as he wanted. She hadn’t braved fire to run away scared now.
Briar studied the man standing twenty feet in front of her. He was the one person in the world who gave her any hope of living a normal life. A wave of gratitude swept over her, because no matter how unfriendly or weird he was, he was doing something for people like her.
Almost as if he felt her, he lifted his gaze and met Briar’s curious stare. She didn’t have a lot of experience with other people besides her immediate family, but he seemed confused. His dark eyebrows—two straight lines that slashed above his eyes—drew together, and he frowned.
“This lecture is a one-shot, please do not approach me. I have no desire to read your research or be part of your study.”

My Back Went Out! Yikes!
Candy Corn courtesy of Wikipedia. In the public domain.
Honestly all I did was stand out up turn and then major ouch! I’ve been through pills I reacted badly too. Now I have more pills, patches, creams, heating pads and physical therapy exercises to do at home.
People have been emailing me asking where was I? I wasn’t online like I usually am. Frankly sitting is painful but it’s gotten better today with me being on a heating pad or using the cream my doctor prescribed.
Where does that put me? Behind in all correspondence, late writing this blog, a day or two behind in Nanowrimo and finally sitting at the computer trying to catch up.
My goal is to finish my current manuscript and more than anything to be well so I can do all the fun things that Thanksgiving and Christmas has to offer.
So for those who were looking for me online, no I didn’t die. I’m still here. Why the large picture of candy corn at the top of this blog post? It’s because if you’re under orders for resting your back and taking meds, etc., there is one thing I must stress. Do not eat the leftover Halloween Candy.
