My Favorite Meatloaf

This is a recipe from my cookbook, and I'm sharing it here because I love it.

I'm tired of meatloaf getting a bad rap. Tired of it, I tell you!

The Pioneer Woman Cooks!Within the pages of my cookbook, I proposed that people's perception of meatloaf became permanently skewed when a certain disheveled rock singer burst on the scene back in the seventies…but after much consideration, I've decided that it's actually the word "loaf" that has contributed the most to meatloaf being such a maligned food.

You didn't know...

Four Favorites

It's still hot here. What gives?

It's September. It's supposed to be cool. Pleasant. Breezy.

Why is it over 90 degrees?

Oh, well. Rather than weep and wail and gnash my teeth about something over which I have no control, I'll find some of my favorite cool things to eat.

Here are four!

Veggie and Cheese Bagel. Scrumptious.

Ginger Steak Salad. A triumph.

Berries with Sweet Cream. Help. If you haven't tried this yet, please do so at the earliest convenience. I beg you.

The Bread

TPW_3070Whenever I have a friend or family member over for dinner, they will ask the following question:

"Are you making The Bread?"

And I always smile and say:

"Yes. I am making The Bread."

I smile because it's a foregone conclusion that I will be making The Bread.

I smile because The Bread is so darn delicious and no one who tastes it can believe it contains only two ingredients.

I smile because it's probably the easiest, simplest, effortless thing I make.

I smile. Because butter is involved.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Sweet Rolls

I have a sweet roll problem.

I blame my original cinnamon rolls. For they are evil. And they must be destroyed.

From there I made these orange marmalade rolls. A triumph.

REE_7081Then, with zero shame in my soul, I made these caramel apple rolls.

Help.

Over the weekend, I made a whole bunch of cinnamon rolls for Cookie Sunday at church. Cookie Sunday used to be called Linger Longer, and before that, I think it was happy hour, which might have inflamed the evangelicals because of...

Pot Winners

(I'm sorry this announcement came late. Had to take one of the punks to the doctor early this morning, which is never a simple thing considering our distance from town. Thanks for your patience, guys!)

The winners of the Le Creuset pots are:

#13595 Maggie: "Lunch date with my 3.5 year old. It was great. We shared mac and cheese and a Rice Krispie bar. Gosh, I wish he would stay this size."

#32027 Jess J: "My boyfriend and I each picked an activity for Saturday…we donated blood at Fenway Park...

Monday

Today…

Because it's Monday…

Because I baked 125 cinnamon rolls yesterday morning…

Because my kitchen will not recover…

Because I want to move to a world where there is no cinnamon…

And because I love ya…

I'm giving away three (3) Le Creuset 7 1/2-Quart Round French Ovens, in this beautiful "Caribbean" color.

I love this color.

Love it very much.

I prefer to call it Robin's Egg Blue myself. Reminds me of 1957. Please don't ask me why.

And it doesn't really matter what the color is called. What...

Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce

TPW_3646I have a bit of a problem. It's an addiction to light orange-red pasta sauces.

There's this one:

REE_2968_6020Pasta alla Vodka. Proceed with caution. It's addictive.

And there's this one:

REE_1669Pasta with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce. Ridiculously yummy.

And of course, there's this one from my cookbook:

pasta betsy 141Penne alla Betsy. A triumph.

Continuing that tradition, today I bring you this most basic recipe for pasta with tomato cream sauce.

Make it if you're feeling blue.

Or are hungry for pasta.

It definitely does the...

Pretty Little Brownie Bites

TPW_3528I made these treats yesterday afternoon.

Why? Because I wanted chocolate.

Where? In my kitchen.

Who? My chocolate-loving girls and me.

How? Let me show you!

Note that this is the basic brownie recipe I use all the time, and the basis for the Mocha Brownies in my cookbook. You can omit the chocolate chunks I add along the way if you like things simpler, or if you're not concerned with making things from scratch, go ahead and whip out a mix! I can't remember which common store brand it is, but...

Comfort Food

NEW CATEGORY

I created a new category on The Pioneer Woman Cooks.

Its title? Comfort Food.

Its contents? All the recipes from the PW Cooks archives that evoke memories…

That warm our souls…

That make us close our eyes and savor each bite because it reminds us of family…our childhood…memories.

I went through each and every recipe on this site, putting them through the comfort food filter. I wound up rejecting a lot of recipes I initially thought I'd choose; anything spicy, crunchy, or complicated...

Today

Today…

Because it's Wednesday…

Because the only thing standing between me and true happiness is two loads of whites and six-pack abs…

Because last night I dreamed I was backstage at The Nutcracker and hadn't been to a single rehearsal…

And because I love ya…

I'm giving away three (3) of these lovely, shiny candy apple red Anniversary-edition Kitchen Aid mixers.

It's shiny. It's red. And it has a glass mixing bowl.

And it'll keep you out of trouble.

At least while you're using it.

It's hard to...
