Recent IELTS Speaking questions from Canada – March 2025
Thanks to our very thoughtful student, here are the Speaking questions from his recent IELTS exam in Canada:
Speaking test
Part 1 (Interview)
– What is your full name?
– Can you tell me about your hometown?
– What is your hometown famous for?
– How do you usually start your mornings?
– What time do you usually go to bed?
– Do you follow a strict sleep schedule? Why or why not?
– How do you usually spend your weekends?
– Has your weekend routine changed over the years?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe someone you follow on social media. You should say:
– who the person is
– what kind of content they post
– why you started following them
and explain why you find them interesting.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– What social media platforms are most popular in your country?
– How has the way people get information changed over the years?
– Do you think technology has spread quickly in your country? Why or why not?
– How has social media influenced people’s lives?
– Do you think traditional media like newspapers and radio will become obsolete? Why?
– What are the advantages and disadvantages of getting news from social media?

IELTS Writing Test – General Training
Writing task 1 (a letter)
You recently won a competition organised by a newspaper, but you have not yet received your prize. Write a letter to the newspaper. In your letter:
– Describe the competition you participated in.
– Explain what prize you were expecting to receive.
– Request the newspaper to take action regarding the issue.
Writing task 2 (an essay)
Some people prefer to spend their free time with friends of the same age group, while others enjoy socialising with people of all ages.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Speaking test
Part 1 (Interview)
– What is your full name?
– How should I address you?
– Where are you living right now?
– Do you think your city is a good place for young people? Why or why not?
– What improvements or changes would you like to see in your city?
– Do you spend time with teenagers? Why or why not?
– How often do you interact with teenagers?
– Why do you think people are interested in knowing what teenagers are doing?
– What are some popular places for teenagers to go out in your city?
– Why do people prefer to go out on their days off?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe a time when a friend surprised you. You should say
– when it happened
– where it took place
– what the surprise was
and explain what you did afterwards.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– Where do people often meet others by surprise?
– Is it good to meet people unexpectedly? Why or why not?
– Do people meet more or less often with friends nowadays?
– Is it better to plan a meeting with friends than to meet unexpectedly? Why?
– Where do people usually prefer to go when they meet up?
– How do you feel when someone surprises you with a visit at home?

Latest IELTS questions from Dubai, UAE – February 2025 (Academic Module)
Our thoughtful subscribers from the UAE and Oman got these writing tasks in their recent IELTS exams. The writing tasks were the same in the two countries:
Writing test
Writing task 1 (a report)

– When was the last time you met someone new?
– Did you work in a group when you were a child?
– Did you enjoy working in a group as a child?
– What did you learn from working in a group?
– Do you prefer working in a team or working individually now?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe a cultural place you would like to visit, such as a museum. You should say:
– what the place is

– why you want to visit it
and explain how this place is related to culture.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– How can people learn about culture through places like museums and cultural sites?

Writing task 1 (a letter)
You are attending part-time classes at a school but will be absent for a few days. Write a letter to your teacher. In your letter:
– Explain why you are taking part-time classes.
– Describe the reason for your absence.
– Explain how you plan to keep up with the missed lessons.
Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Writing task 2 (an essay)
