Our student LX kindly shared the writing questions from her recent IELTS exam in Taiwan, below:

IELTS Writing Test – General Training

Writing task 1 (a letter)

You recently received an information pack from a school, but some important details were missing. Write a letter to the head of the school. In your letter:

– Explain what information was missing
– Describe how this has affected you
– Suggest what the school can do to prevent this in the future.

Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Many small local shops are closing due to competition from large supermarkets and shopping centres.

Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages for shoppers?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Thanks to our subscribers from Oman and Saudi Arabia, today we are sharing the writing tasks from their recent IELTS exam. The writing tasks were the same in the two countries.

Today we are sharing the Speaking questions from a very recent IELTS exam in Saudi Arabia, kindly contributed by S (thank you!)

Speaking test

Part 1 (Interview)

– Where do you live now?
– Do you like the area where you live? Why or why not?
– Is this a good neighbourhood for families or young people?
– What kind of technology do you use daily?
– How has technology changed the way you work or study?
– Do you prefer using a smartphone or a computer? Why?
– What’s one piece of technology you couldn’t live without?
– Do you think technology makes life easier or more stressful?

Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a TV series that you like. You should say:

– what it is about
– who the main characters are
– why you like it

and explain what makes this series special for you.

Part 3 (Discussion)

– What TV shows do young people and older people like?
– Why do people enjoy watching TV shows or series regularly?
– Do people like different TV shows when they get older?
– Do you prefer handmade gifts or store-bought ones? Why?
– Why do some people prefer to give or receive expensive gifts?
– What makes a gift valuable, its price or the thought behind it?

Thanks to the generous contribution from PT, today we are sharing the writing tasks he had in his recent IELTS exam in Australia.

IELTS Writing Test – General Training

Writing task 1 (a letter)

You want to apply for financial support from an organisation that helps students pay for their studies. Write a letter to the organisation. In your letter:

– Describe your qualifications and work experience
– Give details about the part-time course you plan to take
– Explain how this course will help you in the future.

Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Many cities have old public buildings such as town halls and art galleries that are expensive to maintain. Some people think the government should replace them with modern buildings. Others believe it is important to preserve old buildings.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Writing task 1 (a letter)

A builder recently completed some work at your home, but you are not satisfied with the result. Write a letter to the builder. In your letter:

– Explain what you are unhappy about
– Say what you would like the builder to do to fix the problem
– State when you would like this work to be completed.

Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Some people believe that giving gifts is an important way to show care and affection for friends and family. Others think that there are better ways to show that we care.
