Where do main characters come from?

Today I'm delighted to welcome author Emma Right to my blog. Her new book Dead Dreams, a YA psychological mystery recommended for age 11 and up, was released last month, and I'm honored to be one of her tour hosts. There's a tour wide giveaway going on too, so don't forget to follow the Rafflecopter links at the end of this post.

About Dead Dreams:
Eighteen-year-old Brie O’Mara has so much going for her: a loving family in the sidelines, an heiress for a roommate, and dreams that might just com...

England, Wales, America, and the stories in between

I'm not sure how it happened, but I just read two stories set in those Marcher lands between England and Wales, and I loved them both, so they have to be first in my lists of books reviewed this week. Grab a coffee and find out why:

First is The Cuckoos of Batch Magna, by Peter Maughan, a wonderful story with evocative scenery, zany characters, pitch-perfect dialog, general hilarity, and a hapless American who inherits an entailed manor and dreams of theme parks. The locals are split--those wh...

Wake up to The Awakener

I'm delighted to welcome author Amanda Strong to my blog today with an excerpt from her mature YA paranormal romance The Awakener, latest in her series Watchers of Men.

If your weather's anything like mine, the autumn sunshine will soon be giving way to cold wet rain, so I thought this excerpt seemed fairly appropriate... Plus, of course, it's appropriate to October...

Meeting the Children of the Knight

I've just been reading an intriguing book that combines the myths of King Arthur with the gritty realism of LA's gang culture, and holds a dark mirror to the way we treat our children. Innovative Online Blog Tours invited me to join the book release tour, so please read on to find out more about the book, the author, and my review:

Past, present and future dilemmae in love, truth, and compromise

Bethlehem's Baby is set in history, built on what science can discover, and firmly anchored in the Bible. It's made up of five-minute read-aloud stories for children, so maybe that makes it juvenile historical fiction. At a recent writers' conference I was asked what genre I write in, and I wondered how to answer with one word, or even three... because, after all, my spiritual speculative novellas are neither juvenile nor, technically, historical (though they do have historical elements), and...

Cats and Goldfish and Book Reviews

Bethlehem's Baby has a grand total of five book reviews now, and readers like it! I like readers too and hope I might manage to scrounge/attract a few more before the end of my tour. Anyway, if you're interested, here are four places to learn more:

Book Covers and Chancing Collision

Would you judge a book by its cover? I read Corinne Demas' Everything I was recently, not because I liked the cover, but because I liked the blurb. Oddly enough, I turned the book over to look at the blurb precisely because I didn't like the cover!

I guess there are three main kinds of book cover:
intriguingly enticing ones that scream "You'll really like this book" so I simply have to look at the blurbblah ones that barely even impinge on my consciousness...and weird ones that make me wonder "...

The Joy of Book Reviews

Bethlehem's Baby just got another book review, and I'm over the moon. Read the comments of a mother and her four-year-old here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2C7NO78WSSIEW/
and please check the YES box if you find the review helpful! I certainly do.

Of course, while touring the internet with my book (see Bethlehem Blog Tour here), seeking out new bloggers and readers and interviewers and more, and putting the finishing touches on Nazareth Neighbors (which is, I think, in its final edit stage),...
