Dreams, nightmares, and book reviews
Dreams, longings, and yes, nightmares too, all play a part in the books I'm reviewing today. But perhaps they're part of every story--the longing for something different or more that drives both character and plot. As I work on more five-minute Bible stories, I'm looking at which part of dreams and longings read into tales of Jesus' miracles. It's easy when somebody wants to be healed, but what about when someone hears a truth they'd rather keep hidden, or when what's asked for isn't what's r...

“If You Liked A Wrinkle In Time…” Choosing a Genre for Your Book
People ask me what sort of book I like and I say "all sorts." They ask my favorite genre and I say I have too many to mentioned. And they ask what genre I write in... which leaves me wondering how on earth to answer them. I write children's Bible stories, spiritual speculative fantasies, contemporary dramas... but presumably not all at once. And today's guest, author Tricia Stewart Shiu, writes... well, perhaps I'll let her tell you. I saw her latest book, Iron Shinto, advertized with the phr...

Open the Box!
It's real. It's here. I opened the box...
...And inside were my first real copies of Bethlehem's Baby, straight from the publisher (Cape Arago Press)! I don't know what the weather at Cape Arago is like just now--windy and wild if the weather here's anything to go by. But I hope the sun is shining for my publisher as it shines for me, and I send him my heartfelt thanks. I'm thrilled to see these books.
Now all I need are some people to buy them from me. But you can order real printed copies of...

Honeysuckle, Jasmine, Diamonds and Forever
"It's all in your mind," says the title to one of the books I read this week. Meanwhile the speaker at our local writers' group assured us that we have to imagine our writing success before we can achieve it. Which leaves me wondering, will my achievements remain "all in my mind."
It's been a good week for achievements though, as well as for reading. Bethlehem's Baby came out in print. Nazareth Neighbors looks set to follow soon. Galilee's Gift has started strong and is now growing fast (but o...

Life in Transit, and an Incurable Insanity

Today I'm delighted to welcome Simi K. Rao, author of An Incurable Insanity, to my blog. As you read her post, you'll probably guess what attracted me to her book.
Life in transit
One of the most pleasurable aspects of writing for me is being able to connect with my readers on several different wavelengths; some of which I can tell you don’t even cross my mind when I’m penning my stories. This is not only rewarding but also very refreshing, particularly in my case as the typical greeting I’m u...

Short reads for Christmas and beyond
Yes, I know Christmas is over, and I know I'm really late posting these reviews. In my defense, my Christmas is only just over, and my Christmas tree's still lit. Our oldest son had to work over Christmas, so we kept the season going, just for him. Now he's gone, and the house will feel way too empty and quiet if I switch off the lights. So, for anyone still celebrating Christmas, or anyone looking for great short reads to keep the Christmas spirit alive... or for anyone who just enjoys readi...

Giving my Best for a Bestseller
Bestselling in free kindle Christian reference Old Testament books, Genesis People made it to #1 again today! (And it's still free until the 14th.)
That number one status and the magic word, bestseller, both sound really good to me, though my husband, ever practical, has his doubts about putting sales and free together in the same sentence. Is it cheating if it's true?
To be honest, being #9 in free kindle Christian reference seems pretty impressive too. It may even mean more to my mathematical...

Bethlehem's Baby is here, or at least it's there
My publisher sent me this picture and I just had to share it.
Bethlehem's Baby is here, in print, on real paper with real pages!
I guess it's not "here" technically--not at my house, in my hot little hands, but "there" at Cape Arago Press. Still, I'm sure you can see why I'm dancing with joy again. The first print proof of the first printed book from the Five-Minute Bible StoryTM Series. Hurray!
May it be the first of many, I pray. I'm so thrilled my publisher believes in the series, and now I'm...
