The Gift of Reading

What did you get for Christmas?

I got the gift of reading--a shelf-full of books, currently stored on the living room floor against a wall. And, since it was Christmas, and my husband was on vacation, I took a vacation from book reviewing and read some of those Christmas gifts. I have to say, my friends and family have excellent taste when it comes to choosing books for me! Pull up a chair, grab a coffee, and see what takes your fancy from this fine collection.

The Time Keeper, by Mitch Albom,...

Here are some I prepared earlier

I used to watch Blue Peter on TV when I was a kid. They liked to tell us how to make things--towers, castles, racing cars, fruit cakes with strawberry filling, and more--and they'd always show us every step, from start to completed project. Of course, some steps, like baking the cake, took longer than the episode ran. So then they'd put the mix to one side and say, "Here's one I prepared earlier."

My husband and our youngest son took vacations from work over Christmas so I thought I'd join the...

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas everyone.

And heartfelt apologies to anyone still awaiting long-promised book reviews.
I will endeavor to get back on schedule soon, but today's timetable is filled with turkey, stuffing, roast potatoes, and all those wonderful trimmings; followed by board games around the table with two sons and much delight; plus Enya playing in the background; followed by gluten-free mince pies, turkey butties, and possibly, if one of those sons smiles really sweetly, trifle. The tree w...

Are you getting books for Christmas?

Christmas is fast approaching. My Mum brought it on the plane with her luggage from England. Then we unpacked. And now we've unpacked our ornaments for the Christmas tree as well. It's definitely coming.

Meanwhile there's shopping, writing, reading, editing, and shopping some more to be done. We didn't just find Christmas puddings on today's expedition; we found brandy butter to put on them too, so our son will enjoy his just desert. And we found beef and potato pasties, frozen, ready to heat...

Sex Scenes -- In or Out?

TOUR-BANNER-450The Proper Application of A Sex SceneEvery once in a while I read a guest post and think "I wish I'd written that." This is one of those times, and I'm delighted to welcome author Ciara Ballintyne to my blog with a post that takes a serious look at those semi-obligatory sex scenes in fiction (and movies too). Thank you Ciara, and over to you! brown-divider-modified-md<!--[if gte mso 9]>

A sinister dragonfly

I'm delighted to welcome author Ronnel Porter to my blog today. He's from Ogden, Utah, not too far from Salt Lake City where we used to live. And his latest book is a mystery-thriller for age 18+ called Dragonfly. It's such a lovely title, I had to ask how he came up with the name, and how topics, storylines and titles all work together. (Don't forget to scroll down the page for a great rafflecopter giveaway!)
