Confessions of a so-called middle child

I have a confession to make. I'm a middle child. So was my Dad. And so's my middle son. So the title of Maria Lennon's book, Confessions of a so-called Middle Child, was bound to make me look twice. And today I'm delighted to have the author joining me for an interview here on my blog.

One Lovely Blog, and a lovely dog as well

Is this a lovely blog? I don't know, but Catherine Cavendish just passed on a Lovely Blog award to me, so someone must think so.

There are a few conditions though... strings attached perhaps... and the first is to make sure I link back to the blogger who gave me the award. You really ought to follow this link--Catherine's acceptance blog is full of really fascinating facts. In fact, I'm heading back there momentarily to remind myself or which famous author coined an advertizing campaign for Gu...

Honeysuckle and Jasmine

Today I'm honored to be part of the release party for Liz Grace Davis' new novel, Honeysuckle and Jasmine.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Liz Grace Davis grew up in Angola, Namibia, South Africa, and Germany. She now lives with her husband and daughter in Vienna, Austria.
Her travels offered her the opportunity to gather interesting material, from both her own experiences and those of others. She is a firm believer that memories, both good and bad, are worth cherishing because they lead us to be the people w...

Like father, like son... Meet an adventurer's dad

I managed to meet Ian's Dad from Deception Peak the other day. Luckily I had my trusty tape recorder with me and I've transcribed our conversation for your enjoyment. If you've not read Deception Peak yet, look for it in stores. It's a tale where teenage loner Ian is transported to a curious realm in the company of a girl. Of course, Dad's long had hopes that Ian might make friends with Abbi, but Ian's more interested in hanging out with Dad...

There's lots more information about Deception Pea...

Books and Beans

I went to Wordstock on Saturday, and wrote a five-second story (six words) on a post-card hung outside a booth. Then a passer-by recognized my name as a children's writer! Wow! I came home by train, but I could just as easily have flown.

Some of the books I'm reviewing this week are from children's writers; others definitely not. But there's a mixture of genres and styles, so put the coffee on, grab a mug, and lets share some books and coffee beans.

First is Rogue Hunter: Inquest, by Kevis Hend...

A Whole New, Very Strange World...

MichaelWestTourBadge I've been working on the sequel/companion novel to Divide by Zero, another book set in the same world, with some of the same characters. It's a fairly normal world, with fairly normal people, in a normal place, not hard to imagine at all.

I've been writing more New Testament entries in my Five Minute Bible Story (TM) Series too, all set in the historical world of Israel, 2000 years ago. But all I have to do is research what the world was like, read the Bible, read a few other books, add charac...

From Jericho to Gorias La Gaul--interview with Steven Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury_ZimmerTourBadge
Today I'm writing and being interviewed over on Ian's Realm. If you click on the link, you can read about the challenges I faced in writing Biblical fiction. But first, stay here and meet a great fantasy author who writes good old-fashioned Swords and Sorcery (plus the odd Biblical hint) and takes me back to the delights of Dungeons and Dragons in my college days. Steven Shrewsbury and Stephen Zimmer (the two Stev/phens) are touring the internet with their great new books, Blood and Steel, Ch...

Books. Cats. Life is Sweet

"Books. Cats. Life is Sweet." So says the badge on Book Reader's Heaven, and if you click on the link (or the image), you just might find me over there today, opening the Bethlehem's Baby blog tour with a look at the difference between telling tales, telling stories, and telling lies. Leave your questions in the comments and we can enjoy a discussion on the difference between mythology, fiction, fact....

Thunderous Negotiations

TOTBTourbadge Today is your chance to meet Jeffe Kennedy, one of the authors included in the Thunder on the Battlefield anthologies, right here on my blog. A two-volume anthology, Thunder on the Battlefield offers great Sword and Sorcery tales, just waiting to take me back to the Dungeons and Dragons of my student days. I almost want to get on my bike and visit a friend again, shove the furniture aside, sit cross-legged on the floor, and roll my dice with nervously trembling wrist as the tale is spun...

But...
