Reading slow
Yesterday's reviews were all of quick short reads, so today I'll ring the changes with reviews of longer books, to be enjoyed over several coffee breaks, or even over several days.
Psyche’s Prophecy, book one of the Transformation Series, by Ann Gimpel, combines eco-thriller with psychology, paranormal powers, and sensual romance, with the lights going out over a believably grim Seattle while a psychologist tries to help her patients and herself. Enjoy a a dark, intense 5-star coffee with this...

Reading Fast
There was I thinking that kids going back to school at the end of summer wouldn't change my life at all. My kids are grown up, so why should the beginning of September matter to me. But September's the fall, and I'm still playing catchup on summer's reading and writing lists. September's the time when driving from a to b suddenly means crawling through 20 mph school zones. And our one remaining stay-at-home son is leaving home. So the end of this summer is driving me up the wall.

Destined to release new books
Of course, I'm not the only person with a new book coming out soon. Click here to find out more about Bethlehem's Baby, and see below for another great book, coming soon from the author of the middle grade novels, The Chosen and Nature's Unbalance, and the autobiographical My Open Heart. Destiny starts a new YA series for this author and I'm delighted to join other bloggers in revealing its truly gorgeous cover! Enjoy (and see below for a blurb and excerpt too!).<!--[if !mso]><style>v\:* {behavior:url(#defa...</style><!--[if !mso]>

Going Pro, by author Danika Stone
I'm delighted to welcome author Danika Stone to my blog today. I recently read and reviewed her fascinating two-part novel, Intaglio (find my reviews here: Intaglio 1, the Snake and the Coins: Intaglio 2, Dragons all the way down), and I'm very much looking forward to reading CtrlZ soon.
Intaglio includes some of the most authentic descriptions of the artistic muse that I've ever read, but how did this artist/educator become a successfully self-published author? Danika describes her experience...

Don't Let the Wind Catch You

It's sunny and it's summer. The wind is quiet. The fall is yet to come. But leaves are slowly beginning to turn and pine trees are dropping needles underfoot. Wind and winter are coming.

Don't Let the Wind Catch You is the title of Aaron Paul Lazar's recentl...

With paper between the fingers and scary lights at night
I read four books printed on real paper last week, so I thought I'd post all four reviews together. Not that the books have anything other than paper in common. One's a wonderful literary mystery drama set in post WWII Europe, one's a distinctly modern American political fable, one's set in the old wild West, and the fourth is part of a continuing paranormal series set in present-day Seattle. But they're all printed on paper. And paper is good...

The Time-Traveler's Reading List
I remember writing an essay in Secondary school about whether I'd want a short exciting life or a long boring one if I had the choice. Short and exciting was definitely enticing, but then I thought of all the short exciting lives I could enjoy vicariously during long boring years. As a reader and writer I could live and die over and over again in a million different worlds and cities and eras. What more could a teenager dream? And so I chose long and boring (though I have to admit, it's been...
