The Price of Authentic Voice—An Acrophobia’s Trapeze Nightmare

I'm delighted to welcome a guest to my blog today, Linda Crill, author of a fascinating real-life  book called Blind Curves--One Woman's Unusual Journey to Reinvent Herself and Answer What Now? It's got the Pacific Northwest, motorbikes, wine country, tattoos and piercings, amongst other things. And the reader might get to share the author's journey from misery to health along the way. But at what price?

Over to you Linda, and thank you for visiting my blog.

Playing catchup and posting a few more book reviews

I thought I had it all worked out this year. I scheduled time for a vacation into my list of books to read, then I imagined how I'd catch up with the backlog while flying on planes and enjoying time in England. It was working great, but then I came home to grass like hay overwhelming the flowerbeds, dandelions like trees taking over the lawn at the back, dust in layers with the scent of history, washing in bundles bespattering the bathroom floor, and... and then Independence Day, baking, watc...

Cultural book reviews

Sometimes I get a wonderful surprise in the mail and find myself reading and reviewing a book on the spot. That happened last weekend when a parcel arrived containing Children of the Tipi from Wisdom Tales. Suddenly I'm so glad I'm a book reviewer!

Of course, given how far behind I am with everything, I only wrote the review on Saturday and didn't post it. But it will appear below in a list of reviews of thoroughly enjoyable books filled with cultural references and evocative prose. Grab a cof...

Death, dying, meaning of life, and fiction

I had a wonderful trip to England, spending time with family and friends, and celebrating my Mum's 85th birthday. Mum is very much alive and well, already planning her next visit to the US. She says growing old's no fun but she still has fun and shares fun times with the rest of us--a reminder to me when I complain at weakening eyesight and aching knees--hey, growing old doesn't mean closing down.

Then I got back and ended up reading so books on death and dying. Still, as you'll see from my re...

What's in a (pen) name?

Chick lit author Michele Gorman has a YA alter-ego.

Since I write in several different genres I've often wondered if I ought to use a pen names. But all my stories are parts of me and I'm almost afraid having an alter ego would feel like cheating. So it's kind of satisfying to read of an author combining her identities in a re-released book, particularly when it's a book I've enjoyed so much.

Known for her best-selling chick lit (the Single in the City series and Bella Summer Takes a Ch...

Thank you Amazon !

This blogpost is written with many and sincere thanks to Amazon.

Stonegarden.net, publishers of Divide by Zero and other excellent novels by excellent authors, closed its doors with an end-of-days event on facebook on June 30th. Rights to our novels reverted to the authors on July 1st, and straightaway the kindle version of Divide by Zero became unavailable on Amazon. The paperback version's lagging behind but I'm pretty sure it will vanish soon too, leaving only a few "new and used" copies av...
