A Pop of Color

photo 101 natural world amd leading lines march 2016 P1080177

This rose was beautiful last Wednesday. Today it’s gone. The place thereof remembers it no more.

I like taking pictures of flowers for exactly that reason: they’re fleeting and beautiful, just like time. Just like every one of us that walks upon this earth. Everything, said Solomon, is beautiful in its time.

Matthew 6: 28-30

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Warmth & The Quality of Light

photo 101 warmth and the quality of light march 2016 P1080174.jpg

I promised myself I wouldn’t do another fire picture for Photo 101, Day 9: Warmth & the Quality of Light. Instead, I challenged myself to somehow capture the sun’s warmth in a less obvious way.

I was sitting around this afternoon looking at my New Hampshire Reds enjoying a dust bath when the sun peeked from behind the clouds for a moment and hit their amber feathers. I had a Eureka moment as they glowed in the golden sunlight that only appears for a few minutes on the occasional late afternoon. I raced inside for the camera and was rewarded after a short wait when that gorgeous golden light re-emerged for a few seconds just as one of the hens was shaking off the dust.

This photo has all the qualities of fire, but it’s not a fire photo. Hooray! Praise Jesus.

Natural World & Leading Lines, Take 1

P1070844 tu intense

Yes, ANOTHER cat picture. I love this photo so much I had to sneak it in somewhere. The lines, the intensity, the colour palette and the stare just grab me by the eyeballs, even if the model just happens to be a cat. I took this photo a few months ago for a NG Your Shot assignment on urban jungles or something of that ilk and I can’t recall if I ever bothered submitting it. So, here it as as my nature shot #1 for Photo 101, Day 8: Natural World & Leading Lines.

I haven’t had time to keep up with my photos this week because it was tax week, but I intend to get back on track today so I’ll submit something fresh as time allows.

Solitude: All Alone in a Crowd

photo 101 day 5 solitude and thirds 2 march 2016 DSCN2057

My take on “Solitude” for Photo 101, Day 5 is not what I’d planned or expected. I have the shots I’d planned to take: wide expanses of space with a lone subject in a perfect rule of thirds position. When I think of solitude, I think of calm, peace, quiet moments alone with my thoughts. It’s refreshing, rejuvenating and ultimately productive.

However, I was jarred into the reality that there’s an altogether different type of solitude, which more closely matches the dictionary definition of isolation and loneliness. This shot, taken entirely unintentionally, captures the essence of that feeling.

I set out to take a picture of the gazebo in the sea at Silver Sands. There are literally hundreds of gorgeous shots of this gazebo online. It’s a favourite wedding site for people from all over the world and therein lies the difficulty of getting pictures of it. It lies behind layers of security guards in a protected section of the island, so me and my little point-and-shoot camera had to settle for trying to capture it from across the bay. I had no glasses and couldn’t see anything but the gazebo in the distance, so I zoomed the camera, lined up the gazebo and quite unintentionally took the picture that speaks a thousand words, all of them “solitude.”

Peace in Troubled Waters

troubled waters DSCN2072 photo 101 day 3 water march 2016White horses (waves) on the cliff’s edge at Silver Sands

Yesterday, I went in search of rest from the day’s toil and troubles and found white horses crashing against the cliff at Silver Sands. This was my first time seeing them and they are glorious to behold: water so furious it turns into art, because those white horses really look like horses.

I’m using this as my Photo 101, Day 3: Water submission, although it would also be perfect for Day 5: Solitude & Rule of Thirds. I have a different photo from the same place for that, so look out for it in the next post.

John 5:4

For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

Luke 8:24

And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.

Bliss

Bliss - gazebo on beachBliss: Sun, sand, a brisk sea breeze and a world of peace and quiet on a beach

Bliss is uncomplicated. It lies in the simplicity of being able to fully savour a moment. It is unhurried, calm, restful, fleeting and completely individual. Bliss is a gift from God.

Traversing the Narrow Way

photo 101 day 2 street march 2016

Matthew 7:13-14

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Isaiah 35:8

And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.

Home is Where I Move Mountains

P1070888 tu

Home is where the cat is. Yes, I’m turning into an unintentional cat lady, but those cats are just so cute!

I’m doing Photo 101 again, mostly because I haven’t been doing as much photography as I’d like and it gives me an excuse to put beautiful content on the blog. I haven’t had the time to take any photos for the course yet, but I’m trying to keep up with the assignments by posting some of my favourite shots until I can take brand new photos.

Ironically, I wasn’t able to take photos today because I’m bogged down working on the plans for what I hope will be a home for these kittens, and I do mean I’m drawing up some of those architectural plans myself. I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me, including doing my own site layout plan. Fun, fun, neck ache. I just got done doing the plumbing plan. Very unsexy stuff. Respect to all you architects and home designers out there.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Matthew 17:20

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Leap Years & Such Delights

orange and friskitteeOrange & Friskittee share a magical moment – perfect for days such as February 29. I’m not sure why O is in focus and F is not, as this was taken with a point-and-shoot.

Hello World! (Yep, I used to be a programmer.)

This is my first post for 2016. It’s February 29 and I simply had to post something, despite my hectic schedule. There’s something so wonderful about this mysterious extra day someone added on to the year. One extra day to be all that you can be and glorify your creator.

How have you spent your time?

Acts 2:17

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

Things I’ve Learned

kitties and flowers 006

Things I’ve Learned

I’ve learned many things over many years

I’ve learned to smile through my tears

I’ve learned to laugh and I’ve learned to love

I’ve learned that true love is from above

I’ve learned to give and I’ve learned to take

I’ve learned that love happy people make

I’ve learned the difference between truth and lies

I’ve learned not to see everything before my eyes

I’ve learned to appreciate those around me

I’ve learned to live unselfishly

I’ve learned to be merciful and kind

I’ve learned that love is never blind

I’ve learned to be faithful and to be true

I’ve learned to give everyone his due

I’ve learned to be happy and to be sad

I’ve learned to do good and repent of bad

I’ve learned the lovely and the pure

I’ve learned a lot that will endure

I’ve learned that God will catch me when I fall

I’ve learned to put Jesus above all

I’ve learned to make my call an election sure

I’ve learned how to live forevermore
