Glass, Squared
1 Corinthians 13:12
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Treasures in Heaven
Here’s something different for “Treasure + Close Up” this year. I used the Spirit-Filled Bible instead of the KJV, but otherwise, it’s the same scripture and the same philosophy as always. Some things never change, like the Word of God.
This is even more authentic, for it incorporates unexpected elements from my daily life: a bracelet, bougainvillea “flowers” that have fallen from the tree where I like to unwind and meditate and a hint of kitten paw from one of the cats that tries to copy everything I do, including read the bible, apparently. Wise kitten.
Matthew 6:19-21
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Half-Light (A Poem & A Mystery)
Half-Light
A beauteous half-light,
where mystery walks
unhindered by the clarity of day.
In response to the Half-Light photo challenge and
as a submission for Photo 101, Day 10, Mystery & Lighting Effects
Ephesians 6:19
And [pray] for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel
Scale & Observation
The assignment brief for Photo 101, Day 14: Scale & Observation was to pay attention to the elements of the scene before pressing the shutter. That’s on my to-do list. This photo was taken in exactly the manner they don’t recommend.
I was driving past a field at a low speed, didn’t get a chance to stop and had to stick the camera out the window and point and shoot or lose this gorgeous shot. I love how it turned out, with the bull with one leg ever so delicately poised in the air showing all the grace of a ballet dancer. I probably wouldn’t have caught that moment if I’d been overthinking the shot. Sometimes spontaneity pays off.

Landscape – Foothills of the Cockpit Country
A brow-of-the-hill view of some of the lower mountains of the Cockpit Country, looking northwards from Stonage to Cockburn PenToday’s landscape photograph for Photo 101, Day 15: Landscape & Cropping is of one of the most diverse and, until last week, most inaccessible places on earth: the Cockpit Country, Jamaica.
I went on an unplanned and unlikely journey into the unknown, curious to see what I could see and hoping to capture some of its legendary beauty on camera. Unplanned is the key word here, as unplanned quickly turned to unprepared for the realities of lugging a camera and bag/boots/water plus my currently less-than-fully fit and less-than-slender self up the steep inclines of the mountainsides in the searing midday heat, even though it’s March.
I managed to get this shot on the way back down, as there was much less huffing and puffing involved in the descent and I could use some of my precious energy to take a few photos. I managed to capture a few photos of some of the most endangered butterflies on earth during this trip. I have to recover from today’s trip, so those will be covered in a subsequent blog post, D.V.
Enjoy the Easter holidays and remember to reflect on the meaning of Christ’s crucifixion.

Architecture & Monochrome – Historic
The St. Ann’s Bay clock, built in 1814This clock is older than Big Ben, but not quite as famous.
This is a photo of the clock in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica, which was purportedly built in the UK in 1814 and imported into Jamaica at a later date. It sits some way across from the old police station building, both apparently flanking an area of importance during the slave trade in the Caribbean. The clock is said to keep perfect time, as it has it’s own timekeeping caretaker.
I was delighted to see the clock up close, although it took a fair amount of walking over rolling hills to get to it. The town is somewhat congested and power lines everywhere pose a challenge for getting clear photos of the clock tower, hence the odd angle of the photo.
Moment & Motion – Subtler
Happy Easter!
I was out taking pictures of birds this morning when one flew directly overhead at full speed. I wildly pointed the camera in the general direction of its flight trajectory and pressed the shutter. I came back with this stunner.
The bright morning sun looks like an explosion in the sky. If you look very closely you’ll see the bird just beneath the ball of sunlight. Though very feint, the bird is flying with its wings down and seems to be heading toward the trees..

Architecture & Monochrome – Modern
You were expecting all the monochromatic images to be of completed architecture, weren’t you? I have one of those coming up, but was more fascinated by architecture in progress. I’m intrigued by all the aspects that go into the creation of the final building, from the conceptualizing, to the designing and drawing, to the implementation, including the construction and the final product.
Here the construction crew has gone home for the Easter holidays, leaving roughly constructed ladders lying around. I took this photo looking out through the unfinished window at the beautiful view of the moon in the night sky. I love the look of the concrete wall juxtaposed against the genteel beauty of the Corinthian column and offset by the rustic wood of the handmade ladders and the logwood shore.
This is architecture at its most primal, before the finishes hide all that went on to make the architect’s vision reality.
Moment & Motion (Subtle)
I spent a portion of yesterday’s hot early afternoon with camera in hand chasing after birds, men on motorcycles, women with beautiful Chinese parasols (must revisit that) and pretty much everything that crossed my path in a desperate attempt to get a motion shot with some proper motion blur.
I ended up with two unexpected things: an eye that still feels weird from some strange effect of bright sunlight coming into the viewfinder through the lens and this photo of a blackbird perched amid the striking yellow-green leaves of a grapefruit tree bathed in sunshine.
My first thought on seeing the photo was, “That blackbird sure is black!” I was initially disappointed by the lack of motion in the photograph until I looked more closely at that really black blackbird and noticed that he/she is sharply outlined, but the leaves are ever so slightly fuzzy and out of focus. It was indeed a Moment & Motion shot, just very subtle. I’d managed to capture the shaking of the leaves, rather than the motion of the blackbird perching amidst them.
Subtle is beautiful.

Connect
I’m slowly catching up on my Photo 101 assignments, although I’m still about a week behind. I’m so fortunate that moments like the ones in this picture seem to keep dropping in my lap, so to speak. I simply had to post it in spite of the so-so resolution.
I was outside at twilight trying to get something for Moment & Motion when I noticed this perfect connection taking place. If the lighting were better it would be a Mystery & Lighting Effects submission, as it’s a complete mystery just what was happening here.
Is this a kiss, a showdown, a goat/chicken face-off, hypnosis or something else entirely? Well, it certainly is some kind of connection, so Photo 101, Day 6: Connect & Tags it is.
