WPC: Today Was a Good Day

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Today Was a Good Day.”

My idea of a perfect day? It varies, but a nice morning/afternoon lazing on the beach in the shade makes any day a good day.

A Look Back

My final Photo 101 assignment, “That’s A Wrap!,” was to publish a gallery of photos taken during the course. So, here it is at last. Better late than never!

WPC: Creepy or Otherworldly?

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Creepy.”

This week’s photo challenge is quite a challenge. How does one photograph something that conveys that chill-up-your-spine feeling that comes with the creeps?

The first thing that came to mind was a photograph my brother took of his friend’s sugar sculpture cake made to look exactly like a newborn baby. This was to be used as the centerpiece for a  baby shower, where I assume the guests would be eating this lovely confection. Eating a baby: creepy. Using that as my picture? Trouble. So we’re left with the next candidate for creepy photograph of the week.

I went outside in the pitch darkness two nights ago in the hopes of capturing the Perseids on camera, or even just glimpsing a meteor. I came up with nothing where the stars were concerned, but a quick flick through my camera’s preview sent chills up my spine. I didn’t capture a single Perseid, but I managed to capture a pretty good dose of creepy, or maybe just otherworldly, depending on the depth of your imagination.

Do you see what I see?

Lift Up Your Eyes

photo 11 day 18 edge and 19 double 024 tu

Are you burdened down with care? Is life a bit much sometimes? Could you use a helping hand? Lift up your eyes!

Psalm 121

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Heaven & the Earth Beneath My Feet

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Beneath Your Feet.”

I’ve been swamped these past few days, months, years? I can no longer keep track. The days are just crazy busy. I decided to just muscle down and take pictures, regardless. So I rushed outside in the darkness of night to grab a messy, un-posed, unplanned, un-composed photo for this week’s Weekly Photo Challenge, “Beneath Your Feet.” I wound up with this masterpiece:

I couldn’t quite figure it out at first, but, yeah, that seems to be cat butt. Oh well.

Fortunately, I hadn’t had time to clear down my SD card. Right there beside the earth beneath my feet was something of a more heavenly nature:

That turns out to be the “Star of Bethlehem” or the “Messiah’s Star,”  a Venus-Jupiter alignment. How exciting! The same star cluster rumoured to have been the sign in the sky at the birth of Jesus some 2000 years ago. And there it was. I had actually captured it! I’ve been trying to capture anything from the blood moon tetrad and haven’t seen anything but cloudy skies, so this is kind of exciting. I do realize that the actual star seen by the Magi/wise men was a supernatural entity, but I’m not about to overlook the significance of the name of this planetary cluster. For those of you who have no clue what I’m going on about, here’s the prophecy:

Matthew 24:30-31

And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Are YOU ready???!!! (repent or perish)

Inspiration: Life’s a Beach

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Inspiration.”

beach and flowers 055 wm

I find inspiration in many places: the word of God, the beauty of nature, the wonderful people around me, my sweet pets, experiences good, bad and ugly, the list goes on. I’m almost guaranteed to be inspired when I can enjoy a quiet and calm afternoon walk on the beach. The scenery is always familiar, yet never the same. There’s so much mental stimulation coupled with the soothing sound of the surf rolling softly unto the shore. If there’s a place to be one with God, this is it. As I found out, it’s also a place to deal with ghosts, sometimes even ghosts in the making, but even they’re not so scary when it’s the beach.

Mark 4:39

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

WPC: Half and Half

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Half and Half.”

photo 101 weekend 2 play with light 045 tu

Here’s another one that got away, but which happens to be a half-and-half shot. Lucky for me.

1 Kings 3: 16-27

Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.

And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.

And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it.

And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.

And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.

Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.

And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.

Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.

Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.

Better late than never! Here are the ones that got away: personal favourite photos that I didn’t publish during the course, for one reason or other. Their time is now.
