Psychodynamics of the Criminal's Signature
One of the biggest obstacles that law enforcement faces when investigating a violent crime is the mindset and motivations of the criminal act. This is where the signature of the offender comes into focus and it should be studied carefully. It's an important aspect of finding out who committed the crime and it's something, I believe, that should be well understood by those who are involved in any investigation.
An offender signature is the pattern of distinctive type of behavior that is charac...

Are Kids Really Just as Safe Today as They Were a Generation Ago?
"Things just aren't like they were when we were growing up."
"When I was a kid I would run around the neighborhood until the streetlights came on, but I would never dream of letting my own kids do such a thing these days!"
"I wish my children could have the same carefree summers like I enjoyed."
Do any of these remarks sound familiar? Maybe you've heard something like this from a friend, or even said it yourself. There seems to be a generally accepted belief that our society simply is not as saf...

The Strength and Perseverance of Cyber Vigilantes
Protecting our children from the potential evils online is a full time job for even an army of individuals. Technology has once again passed up our capability and manpower at the moment to stop cyber crimes, specifically sexual predators hunting for child victims.
What happens when a pedophile turns into an Internet predator?
A pedophile, an adult who is attracted to children, has been described as not dangerous until he/she crosses over from sexual fantasy to risk oriented behavior, which the...

Child Killer Given Life Sentence
In my two published books, " Compulsion " and " Dead Game ", Emily Stone is an investigator who works in anonymity to protect the most vulnerable members of our society. Of particular concern to Emily are the pedophiles and murderers who prey upon innocent children. Unfortunately, there are far too many real examples of these criminals for me to study when researching the psychology behind such horrific acts .
Last year, I wrote multiple posts on the disappearance of Sandra Cantu and the discovery ...

Crime Stopping Adventure - June 10, 2010 - Review of "Dead Game"
By Reader Views " http://www.readerviews.com/ " (Austin, Texas)
This review is from: " Dead Game": An Emily Stone Novel (Paperback)
Reviewed by Marty Shaw for Reader Views (06/10)
" Dead Game " is the second book in the Emily Stone series by Jennifer Chase . While it is a standalone novel that doesn't require reading the first book, " Compulsion ," readers will probably benefit from reading the first adventure because the author doesn't provide much history on the characters. I haven't read the first ...

New Blog Discovery
While I have my standard list of bookmarked websites that I visit regularly to keep up with current events in criminology and psychology, I like to take some time once in a while to discover some new writing that is taking place on the internet. I hope that new people are finding my blog every day, and I want to reciprocate by offering the same support to others. In this pursuit, I recently found a great blog that details all of the latest happenings in the world of crime, abduction, and othe...

A Writer's Basic Instinct of 20 Questions
How do you come up with your story ideas?
Everything around me and in the world inspires me. I like to use my interest in the criminology and the forensic fields to be the blueprint or background to the story.
Do you write everyday?
When I'm working on a book project, I write six days a week.
Where do you write?
I write in my home office where I can completely focus and be the most productive. I find it too distracting to write in other locations like outside or in a café.
What's around you when...
