A Place for Everything

I spend a LOT of time on the Internet doing research for my business, for this blog, for my creative writing projects, for community group activities. I've got a list of Web site bookmarks that is as long as my arm and frankly, a bit unwieldy.

So when I learned about clipix.com, I thought that looked like just the ticket for organizing all this stuff that I want to come back to later. And sure enough, clipix is pretty darn neat.

I found it easy to set up and get started. A lot of software claims to be intuitive but I found that setting this up was truly a no-brainer.

First, I went to the clipix.com site to register. You can do that via Facebook or Twitter, or as I did, supply an email address. Once I had a clipix account, I could add the Clip button to my Favorites bar. From there on, whenever I visit a Web page, I can click the Clip button and the link to the page gets saved to a "clipboard" in my clipix album.

Clipix

Clipix suggests several different clipboards like Vacation Ideas or Interesting Articles. For example, I clipped a link to a blog post that I contributed to eaglefordshale.com to my Interesting Articles clipboard, and  the link https://www.createspace.com/3637700 for the novel The Lost King to my Books I'd Like to Read clipboard. Here's what that looks like:

I can create additional clipboards and rearrange them. Using Multiboards, I can create a category that contains multiple clipboards. I can see organizing my next novel this way, with clipboards for Locales,  Characters, etc. all grouped together under the title of the novel.

Any clipboard can be private, for my own use, or public, to be shared with friends or the clipix community, via Facebook and Twitter. I can make clipboards for anything, like an article I want to read, something I'm thinking of buying, instructions for a home repair job or a recipe I want to try.

This can even be done collaboratively, using Syncboards. When anyone adds a clip to the syncboard, everyone else I collaborate with will see it in real-time. So say I'm working with a committee planning a fundraiser. As people on the committee get ideas for needed supplies, they can clip links to the Web sites to the shared clipix clipboard to build a shopping list.

If I find that this is enormously helpful and I can't live without it for a minute, I can download the iPhone app, take all my clipboards with me and add to them on the go. I can use my smartphone to take photos of things I see and add the photos to my clipboards.

clipix Sound useful to you too? For information, visit the clipix.com Web site and give it a try. Feel free to leave a comment and a link to any of your clipboards that you want to share with other readers of Dee-Scoveries.

Ghost hunting in Port Aransas

I was beachwalking with a friend the other morning. The shoreline was dotted with gentlemen, and some ladies, all wearing rain boots. Strapped to their belts were plastic jugs with an opening cut out of the side. Bent over slightly, these people shoved lengths of PVC pipe into the wet sand and yanked out some mud. Observing this curious behavior, my friend asked, "What are they doing?"…more

16th Annual Whooping Crane Festival

Register at the Port Aransas Civic Center located at 710 W. Ave A for the 16th Annual Whooping Crane Festival which extends to Feb. 26. Click here for more information.
I went last year and although I missed the tours, I found the exhibits in the Civic Center enjoyable and informative. There were some really interesting vendors, too.

Mardi Gras party

Hope you enjoyed the Port Aransas Mardi Gras parade and festivities. I got to party at La Barataria. Thanks to Lezlie Keebler for the invite. Great music, wonderful wine, lots of beads and of course, awesome food — and then the fog crept in, adding just the right touch of magical mystery.
So, what are you giving up for Lent?

Hot topic

So for some reason the hot topic today on the Internet seems to be "The Enemy Of My Enemy Is My" and then I guess you fill in the blank. I suppose it's something to think about if you're not too busy trying to decide what color beads best compliment your Mardi Gras costume.

Felder Gallery gem and jewelry show

The Felder Gallery is having a gem and jewelry show.
Chris Parachini returns to the Felder Gallery, 1726 Hwy 361, Suite F in the Tower Center in Port Aransas this Saturday, February 11th from 10:00am to 6:00pm to show his entire collection of gemstones from around the world.
"After living in Brazil and traveling the World selling gems, my wife and I moved to Austin to raise our six children and begin a new line of jewelry,"explained Parachini. Parachini has cut gems for Diane Malouf, Anthony Nak, David Yurman, Becky Kelso and Caroline Clive; as well as Stuller, Fire Mountain Gems and Rio Grande. His gemstones have been sold by Saks, Barneys and Neiman Marcus. Many dignitaries and celebrities wear Parachini gems, including the Queen of Jordan, Nicolas Cage, Madonna, members of the Walton Family, and numerous Country Music stars.Since the 1870′s, Parachini's family has been mining Gold, Silver, Diamonds, Tourmaline, Ametrine, Aquamarine, and many more species of gems. His family began cutting gems in the 1960′s. He currently owns a lapidary company in the interior of Brazil, where he mines Aquamarine, Tourmaline, Quartz and other unusual gems; supplying jewelers in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.
"I was inspired to cut my own gems and create my own jewelry because I saw a need in the jewelry industry to break away from designs that are only driven by profit margins and mass appeal," said Parachini, "I want to create a more expressive, original form of art jewelry — starting with a more unique cut of the gem, using an unusual medium such as Sphene, Andalucite, Petrified Dinosaur Bone, Coprolite, or Texas Palm Tree from the Age of Pangea."
Parachini loves to work with Helenite, created from the ashes of Mt. St. Helens, which gives us a variety of beautiful and unique colors. Reflecting their new Texas surroundings, Parachini is creating several new lines of jewelry, called "Austin City Gems" and "The Hippie Hollow Pearl Company," focusing on making jewelry using ecological friendly and sustainable gems, in creative and fashionable ways.
Browse through thousands of gems and design your own jewelry.
