S’mores, anyone?
I do. I remember a musty sleeping bag on a hard cot. A smelly latrine. Hot dogs burned on the outside and raw in the center. I remember slicing my thumb open while learning to whittle (I still have the scar) and falling out of a canoe while learning to paddle.
But I’m going to summer camp anyway. And this time it will be different. Because this summer camp is about the one part that I liked best: telling stories.

Buried treasure!

Saw these sparkling in the sand on my beachwalk this morning. A veritable bounty of pirate treasure. Finders keepers.

Hummers!
They’re here! I’ve got hummingbirds flitting around in my mesquite and vitex trees. So if you’ve got hummingbird feeders, it’s time to get them out!

The Lost King can be found!
“No,” she said, “I mean what store in Port Aransas sells it?” I’m happy to report that now you can find The Lost King at Duckworth’s at 219 W. Cotter. You’ll find some other neat things there too so stop by and say “hi” to Tiffany and Joe and have a look around.

Greening up
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Whitney Farms for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
Everyone who knows me knows that I am no kind of gardener. I think I have black thumbs. But I keep trying. I want to have fresh flowers and fresh vegetables. I want to have homegrown tomatoes. I’d like my tomato vine to look like this,
not the wimpy, spindly, fruitless disgrace that it is at the moment.
So I was interested to learn about Witney Farms® gardening aids, organic soil and plant food. Offered by a company with over 25 years of leading gardening experience, this is a full line of 100% natural plant foods and soils with no additives, nothing artificial, just ingredients from the Earth, designed to promote the growth of big, beautiful flowers and veggies.
organic plant foodPart of the reason that I try to grow my own is that I want my produce to be all-natural. The Whitney Farms® plant foods and soils have low to no dust and no manure odor. The protein-based blends have macro- and micronutrients and contain beneficial microbes.
organic soilUsing the products doesn't look complicated. The plant food is applied at planting time and then every 6 to 8 weeks during the growing season. The container and in-ground soils have plant food already in them. . .
Whitney Farms®It’s even more motivating to see that Whitney Farms is offering a coupon for $3 off.
Here's hoping I can turn my black thumbs green!

Positive outlook
The preseason forecast calls for “below-average” storm activity: 11 named storms, 6 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher on the Saffir-Simpson scale).
That’s below the long-term average from 1950-2011 (12 named storms, 7 hurricanes, 3 major hurricanes) and below the averages for the current active era from 1995-2011 (15 named storms, 8 hurricanes, 4 major hurricanes).
The Weather Channel attributes this to much cooler North Atlantic ocean temperatures and a trend towards El Nino conditions.
Of course it’s just a forecast and not set in stone. But we can be optimistic about a less-active hurricane season this year.
