Starving Years vote ends tomorrow

After months of picking out story elements, character traits, plots and characters that you want to see more of, the story has finally begun! The Starving Years debuted in July's JCP News (click here if you'd like to sign up for the free newsletter) and more than forty of you have weighed in on what you want to see next.

I'll close voting tomorrow, so if you meant to weigh in, now's the time to do it! Vote here if you've already read it.

The Book Depository

In a recent post about Petit Morts 1: Sweets to the Sweet, [info:] gaycrow   mentioned that she only shops at Book Depository, which has free worldwide shipping. I went and checked out the site and was very impressed. They have all my paperbacks, and reasonably priced, though you have to dig a bit to determine what's what on the two paperbacks I published through Createspace: PsyCop Property and Camp Hell.

If you decide to shop at Book Depository, I'd love it if you go through one of my affiliate links...

Packing Heat 113: Creative Limitations

Listener Feedback In the show notes last week, OcotilloDawn said:
I outline or I wander. Outlines keep me on track. But they can change (I try pretty hard to stick to them, but not so much that I'm not listening to my better sense).

I find that when I veer from my outline, I always do it in the same direction — which is fine for the first story, maybe, but I don't want all of my stories to be so similar, with the same characters, the same reactions, the same plot complications, etc. And my ...

Blorp! Blorp!

Somebody's doing something with machinery outside that must be forcing air through the sewers. My toilet started going, Blorp! Blorp! Blorp! really loud.

The cats are looking at it with great alarm.

Packing Heat 112: Late Additions

Listener Feedback Nobilis Reed asked me to add a word to my "please don't" list: lave.
The primary definition:
verb [ trans. :] poetic/literary
wash : she ran cold water in the basin, laving her face and hands.

It had never occurred to me that the primary definition of the word "lave" was to wash. But if that's the case, why is it commonly used in erotica as a synonym of "lick?"

-Many erotic romance writers read primarily in their own genre. All it takes is one writer to say "lave" rather th...

Field Trip: Abandoned House #2

I'm back for the second installment of my abandoned house field trip! After we went through the crumbling abandoned house, saw the saturated, mildewed, still-made bed and the 5" of raccoon poop, we were all worn out. However, as I was leaving, I couldn't stand not knowing what was in the second house, and I said, "Do you want to just go peek in the door?" (famous last words.)

Vegetation has not been kind to this house, as you can see. It's more of a little getaway cottage, or a house one perso...

Among the Living free with Criss Cross!

Enticing covers and slick blurbs are everywhere, so how can you figure out what to add to your reading list that you know you're going to love? If you're anything like me, a recommendation from a friend carries more weight than any other consideration. I probably wouldn't have picked up my all-time favorite books if it hadn't been for a friend telling me, "You have to read this!"

If you're a JCP Books regular, chances are you've read the PsyCop series. But have al...
