Geekin out at Photoshop World

Day three in Vegas...well, the first day was mostly waiting at airports and flying...and I feel more centered than I have the last couple of days. Photoshop World's theme this year is a Kiss concert! NAPP (National Assn of Photoshop Professionals) really does a stellar job at making Photoshop World a kickass event. They even did a version of the old KISS Army patch (but with NAPP instead.)

Yesterday I decided to opt for an all-day food bracelet at my motel. No doubt I ate too much, but it was ...

Packing Heat 119: Specializing

I'm off to Vegas for Photoshop World bright and early tomorrow morning, so I'd better post this now!

Packing Heat is a podcast I've been putting out since 2007. My goal is to help other writers stay motivated, and to encourage them to take their writing to the next level. You don't need special gadgets to listen; Packing Heat plays in your browser, like YouTube. Or you can subscribe (and leave me glowing feedback) at iTunes!

Yay I won a pass to Photoshop World in Vegas! I'll take a week off Pac...

Curbside shopping online!

In the springtime when classes are over and many UW students finish out the leases on their apartments, magical boxes appear on their lawns--boxes full of items...boxes with the word "FREE" scrawled on the side!

I've found luggage, books, and even a cat fountain! (Don't laugh; those things are expensive.)

Though it's not springtime, I figured I'd put together a "Free Box" of my own and share it with all of you.

Field Trip: Boeing C-97G Stratofreighter

I did mention my friend Amy is intrepid, right? We were all tuckered out from our cheesemaking (and shopping and lunch-eating) adventures and were on our way home, when we drove by Don Q Inn, which is a honeymoon suite motel in Dodgeville, WI with all kinds of crazy themed rooms like igloos and wigwams and spaceships. It also has a vintage Boeing C-97G Stratofreighter on the front lawn. We were both looking at it as we drove by and agreed that we'd always meant to check it out at some point, ...

Field Trip: Cedar Grove Cheese Factory

I decided to sneak in one field trip before my upcoming conference and scouting mission to Las Vegas, since we'd been planning this one for a while and were excited to go. You may remember my intrepid friend Amy from our forays into abandoned houses! Here, she and her girls accompanied me to Cedar Grove Cheese in Plain, Wisconsin to see how artisan cheese is made. And also because we'd never been to Plain, so we were curious. Plain was an easy, scenic drive, and we thought they had a lot of a...

Random conversation

I tend to drop off my mail inside the post office rather than at the mailbox--I've deluded myself that it gets places one day faster that way--and when I'm standing there at the mail slot I can hear the postal workers chatting as they sort the mail behind the P.O. boxes. Today I heard:

Woman: ...and they had shrimp at the smorgasbord.
Man (excited): Oh YEAH?

It made me happy, the joie de vivre.
