More than one is much more fun

Vic, vic, vic...Presenting the latest JCP Books Special...

Some people like to buy things one at a time. Buy a book. Come back in an hour. Buy another book. Come back in an hour. Buy a book...you get the idea.

That's a great way to make sure the credit card processors don't go hungry! They charge a fee for every transaction.

I'd rather encourage you to put more stuff in your cart and bump the savings back to you.

This week's special

Buy at least 3 items and...

Field Trip: Mosquitoland and Koehler

Last weekend's field trip was not as fun as I might have hoped. They will not all be fun, I suppose. Maybe because I had the highest hopes for the trip, I was more disappointed in the way it turned out.

The main destination was Wade House, an 1850's stagecoach inn. Period magician Robert Olson was performing, and I had visions of The Prestige dancing in my head.

Pete (my ex) accompanied me, and the drive was gray and uneventful. We arrived in Greenbush, WI in a few hours, stopped by the visitor...

Packing Heat 115: Don't Cut Your Own Hair

Make it Your Job In thinking through some of the response I've had to last week's show, I've decided that, while my situation and yours are probably too different for you to follow exactly in my path, one thing we can all do right now is to treat our writing like a job.
Mental Flip Saying, "I'm working," on my days off from my day job was a really big leap for me—despite the fact that I was indeed writing novels, promoting my work and building my business. Would it be no big deal for you to c...

JCP Books brought to you by the number 12

Twelves are Everywhere!

What's all the hoopla surrounding the number twelve? Twelve hours on the face of a clock. Twelve apostles in the New Testament. Twelve donuts in a dozen. Twelve twelves in a gross. Twelve inches in a...well, you get the idea.

Surely other numbers are just as spiffy. How about eleven? So symmetrical. Or thirteen--deliciously superstitious. And then there's nine, which rhymes with so many great words: fine, shine, line, mine, dine, twine....

This week's special

Since I...

Scary stuff

Those of you who follow my Facebook and Twitter know I was treated to a visit by a firefighter last week. A firefighter who burst into my house and started running toward the bedroom. No, it wasn't a bad porno. I stammered out, "I didn't call you," and she ran back out to the truck, where they determined that my next door neighbors had called, thinking the wife was having a stroke.

I saw my neighbor up and around today and I'm relieved to report that she is perfectly fine. She had a seizure, s...

Packing Heat 114: Taking the Leap

Yay! Petit Morts1: Sweets to the Sweet hit #1 in Gay & Lesbian literature on Amazon.de, and #7 in Romantic Suspense. You can buy it with worldwide free shipping at The Book Depository.
Taking the leap VJ wrote in my Yahoo group that she'd be interesting hearing my take on "the sheer terror of quitting my day job." Since quitting that pesky nine-to-five ranks very high on the "Yes, please!" list of many writers, I thought I'd share my 10-year journey to self-employment.
Your Living Situation ...
