Throwing stuff out
I've made a lot of progress lately toward having a more spacious, less cluttered home. (Getting rid of Pete and his drum set and all his Simpsons toys didn't hurt, ha ha!) My big focus is in getting rid of stuff I can't use even if I still like it, in hopes of making room for stuff I can use and like just as well.
My leather jackets went to Goodwill today. I do feel sad, but they're too "young" for me and don't fit well. A friend of mine posted pics of us on FB when we were 14 and I saw myself...

Did I mention I suck at home dec?
Most people who come to my house notice I'm very bad at decorating. Even men notice...and you know it's bad when straight guys notice. I think it has to do with my priorities. I know plenty of people who do very cool things on a tight budget because they put a lot of mental energy into their homes, and a lot of work, and they're always on the lookout for cool bargains that will go with their vision.
I'm really half-assed about decorating and I don't want to spend either money or time. And it t...

Street chicken
And a little ranty post I've been holding in for a long time. Nearly every time I log in to LJ, a commercial for French's fried onion rings plays. Mom is calling her two pre-teen kids to dinner. The girl, reading, ignores her. The boy, playing his video game, ignores her. Then she tells them dinner is onion-crusted chicken and they both give each other a really knowing look, and come running.

Your fortune is....
I had a visit from the "RL is so much weirder than fiction" bunny this weekend. I was at a Friday the 13th party with my ex-coworkers, and the hostess offered us all fortune cookies in the spirit of the date. My ex-boss--with whom, you may recall, I had a rocky relationship that ended in tears for me. A lot.--declared, "Everyone read your fortunes aloud and then add, 'At the library' to the end."
So, for instance, your fortune might be, "You will meet a tall, dark, attractive stranger...at the...

Packing Heat 116: Easy Peasy
Feedback In response to my advice last week to self-publishers to have their work professionally edited, Tracy wrote on my Facebook page:
"My self-editing is better than some "professional" editors I've seen with their names credited on a book."
Agreed, Tracy. In the epublishing industry, I think many of the staff are what I call "enthusiastic amateurs." They saw a product they felt passionate about creating, and set about teaching themselves how to do it without any formal schooling. As a w...
